JWU is of now a discontinued project, i dont have the energy to keep fighting the small hurdles that seems to appear on wowace and curse all the time.

Thank you all for the time you used JWU, and may your time with Curse Client be as happy as your time with JWU.

Wowinterface has changed their site to require login to view addon details pages temporarily. This seems to have broken the ability to update from there with jwow.

I also tested delete before updating with ACP from wowace and still the textfile I placed in there to test it remained.

Im not sure why it wouldnt delete it, i tested with a random text file in Minimalist folder, and its gone after an update.

do you imagine that it would be an idea to have a wiki page somewhere for JWU users to share the excreable burden of gathering hundreds of URLS for links that will break several times this week alone ?

or at least a couple of example 3.0 updates and their JWU URL's in a forum/jwow update somewhere ?

I must say i dont see the big problem with the copy & pasting of urls. It took me around 20min to find urls for all my addons, just by looking at the unhandled page, searching on wowace / curse, and adding them.

So i dont see the big problem here. But if you want to start a wiki, by all means do so :)

This may be something simple that I am missing, but how do I get the JWU to do anything? I am running 2.2.

The handled addons screen is blank, everything is listed under unhandled. I see no options to scan for addons or to update addons, nor do I see a place to enter a curse user ID or password.

    Maybee read the Readme.txt :)

I also found a bit confusing the way you had to add the new urls for addons. The part of fetching the url and copy-pasteing it wasn't a big deal. I just was confused because the links didn't in any way link to the corresponding old addon in my addons folder (thus can't see for which I've already gotten the urls). If I recall correctly the unhandled addons list stayed the same even if I added some urls and the addon names in the handled addons -list weren't always recognizable (i.g. just numbers). Don't know if I explained this well enough.

The unhandled list wont update until you actually let JWU download the addon, it has no way of telling what directories are for which addons until it has extracted the addon and looked inside.

wowinterface is currently using a low bandwidth version of their site, which JWU dosent support.

    Update

    2.2:
    - wowace.com and curseforge.com support added again, but a useraccount on the sites will be needed to update from those.
    - Fixed an error with deletion before update, should work ok now.
    - Connections do now respect the timeout set in config

And on a side note, wowinterface is atm running with a low bandwidth interface which JWU dosent support.

Ok. I've calmed down a bit, and actually had my coffee now. Settling in for a morning's re-reconfiguring of my list. :)

When I check the unhandled list, some of the addons that have multiple folders, like ORA, Cartographer, and Atlasloot, have those folders listed there. I have to delete those folders and do a reinstall to get them out of the unhandled list.

The unhandled list should be updated after each update run. Not right after you add an addon to the handled list.

Since JWU checks when the addon is installed what directories is actually installed.

So if a directory is on the unhandled list after JWU has updated the addon, then its probabely because that directory is actually not used by the addon anymore.

Well that's just peachy. After spending a several hours making sure I had a working list of links to WowAce, and double and triple-checking it to make sure I had a viable solution to pass on my fellow guild members, you pull this. The list I had worked on is gone, and the step-by-step instructions I had set up for my guild is now mostly useless. They're going to fire up JWU without bothering to check here or at the guild forums, and not get any updates, and then find whatever list they had destroyed.

They're not going to know to yell at you. They're going to yell at me.

I have the Curse client working, but a lot of others don't, and don't trust Curse. They're going to find they need to start all over again, just when Curse is about to melt down under the load. Yeah, I understand that WowAce is gonna get hit, too, but now even more bandwith is going to get taken by those having to seek out all-new URLs again.

Not how I wanted to start my morning.

Im sorry for your loss in time, but its not my choice that they have restricted wowace and curseforge to only allow downloading if your logged in.

When i released version 2.0, this was not the case, and wowace updating was working. Now i need to use alot of time to try and figure out how to solve this problem. And im not excactly full of time atm. :/

    New version:

    2.1:
    - Update for Wowace.com and curseforge.com temporarily disabled. (They require users to be logged in to download)
    - Delete before update should be fixed
    - Only list addons that are being updated, no more listing of "X from Y ... latest version"
    - Added reinstall addons functionality
    - Fixed some spelling mistakes

Support for wowace.com and curseforge.com updating is disabled atm, as those sites now require you to be logged in for the download link to appear.

I am running WoW as an administrator and haven't had a problem with JWU installing new addons before this.

I tried looking for that directory, but the World of Warcraft folder does not exist nor does the program files in the virtual store folder.

If you could find the jwulog.log file and post it somewhere, it might shed some light on your problem :)

The "delete before install" option seems broken - old files remained when I tested. When adding addon-handling, addons which come from Curse disappear from the unhandled list immediately upon setting the address. Other sites stay in the unhandled list until I click "Accept". Also, you may want to change "Installed Date" to "Release Date" because it shows a few addons which were updated months ago to be installed months ago :)

As far as i can see "Delete before update" should be working, but because of addons that have several top level subdirectories, (like fx. Atlasloot), JWU identifies which directories belong to an addon the first time it is installed, so the delete before update would not do anything until the second update of the given addon.

I think i can change this behaviour though, so ill try and get that into 2.1

Ok I thought http://www.wowace.com/projects/addon_name/ should work as documented. But I will try the other links.
And why not use files.wowace.com ?

files.wowace.com is no longer updated, and will soon be taken down. So that is not a valid option :)

I installed all my addons over again according to the lil guide and addons that JWU is saying it's installed aren't showing up in my folder or in WoW when I click on the addons button on my character selection screen. C:/Program Files/World of Warcraft is the correct installation directory, right?

Whatever happened to auto-detecting what addons you have? This just seems super tedious unless I'm missing some huge step that simplifies all of this.

If you are running Vista, then JWU does not have write access to c:/program files, but vista simulates this by making a secret directory where the files will be placed instead, this is located at

    "C:\Users\your username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\World of Warcraft"

So your addons should be there, and if you run wow normally and not as administrator, wow should be pointed to that same directory and get the addons.

If you're having problems with adding addons, be sure you are working from the correct directory, or that the directory you are working in has the jwusites.xml file.

This is a very good point, if you run JWU from another directory than where jwusites.xml is present, JWU wont know any sites, and therefor no url copy & pasting will work.

The easiest way to check, is to look at properties for your shortcut to JWU, and check that the "Start in" directory is set to whereever JWU is installed.
