    Quote from Seerah »

Did *you* know the exact date 2.4 was going to hit? With enough prior notice that you would be able to decide to patch up Omen1 or continue with the Omen2 rewrite? I don't think so.

Like I said before, I don't know the code so I cannot speak for effort versus timeline, only that all these discussions ommitted the fact there was a deadline, whether you recogized it or not.

The fact that you don't know the exact date of the deadline doesn't change the fact it exists. You have to make educated guesses based on all information you have. After one week on the PTR, everything was pointing to it hitting live before April 1. The rate at which they were axing trash in sunwell to help high end guilds "test" the early sunwell bosses screamed they wanted it out quickly.

So to answer your question about dates, no I didn't know the exact date, *BUT*, I knew it was April 1 plus/minus a week...I'm sure you knew this as well. The fact we didn't know the *exact* date is irrelevant. We knew an approximate date, and that date should have been factored.

As it stands, it appears to me Omen2 will be 1-2 more weeks before fully back to the reliable state it was before. That is a full month beyond what 90% of people believed would be the 2.4 release date. People are unhappy because something they rely on no longer works. People don't care about "features" when it boils down to it works or it doesn't.

The primary objective for 2.4 should have just been to get the combat log to work. I'm sorry if you don't agree, but the fact of the matter is almost everyone I know agrees with me.

Being a developer myself, I understand your position. This is just a side job/hobby code effort for you, and had I been in your place, I probably would have considered reducing the effort and tossing all the bells and whistles in. But I'd have decided against it knowing the absolute insane backlash all the non-devs would thrash about with if I didn't make the 2.4 release date (which is where we are).

There really isn't anything you can do about it now other than push forward as efficiently as possible and fight through the noise.

    Think of it this way.

Omen (on the left) and Threat-1.0 (on the right), pre-2.4 had this much code:
    |----------|----------------------------------------|

Now, when 2.4 hit, EVERYTHING on the right up there had to be rewritten, and plenty of code on the left up there had to be fixed because of changes in the API. So... Instead of doing this much work on Omen1 to make it compatible for 2.4
    |------|----------------------------------------|

and this much work to push out Omen2 later
    |-----------|-----------------------------|

which would result in a total of this much work:
    |-----------------|---------------------------------------------------------------------|

Antiarc opted to only do this much work:
    |-------------|-------------------------------------------|

and push out Omen2 with 2.4.

The only thing you omit is Effort versus Deadline (a big omission). Rarely should reducing amount of effort be the only reason a software development approach is chosen when end-user impact is likely to happen due to an impending (hard) deadline.

It is evident that the effort to do everything Antiarc wanted to do did not fit within the timeline for a realistic release versus when users would want it. In a real world situation, this would be a big issue, and would likely not happen as the deadline considerations would have been enforced versus effort.

The only real question is whether the deadline left enough time to even fix Omen1 in the first place. *IF* it did, then the wrong choice was made...if it didn't, then the right choice was to go ahead and do the pie-in-the-sky new version. I won't pretend to answer this as I don't know the code in question. What I do know is Software management/development is not about amount of effort in any realistic situation...its all about minimizing effort within a deadline window.

I'm hoping somebody can explain how to get pets to show right in 5 mans.

right now, no matter what layout setting I use, they are put below the 5 man group, making a column of 6 (sometimes 7/8) grid boxes.

This causes all shorts of mayhem with grid and other addons as well...how do I get the pets to go into a column by themselves (like they ought to)?

pulled all trash un sunwell last night up to first boss.

I flasked it and when the flask expired, the first trash repopped moments later....so the first group is *definitely* on 2 hour.

I was able to ride my mount all the way back to them so I feel confident that all the trash is at least 2 hours.

Changing based on weapon is possible the same way changing based on other non standard stuff is:
    http://www.wowwiki.com/Bongos3#Custom_Set_Conditions

Just use the equip:Item macro condition (though look it up for the right syntax).

I guess I don't understand your wiki entry. I explicity states in the section you linked that it takes lua "hacking" to do this. That translates into me doing coding, which to me says it doesn't do it.

After getting this working and playing aroudn with it, I'm really happy with it.

The only thing I cannot get it to do that I would *love* for it to do is to change the bar like a stance change, but when, say, a weapon changes (like when my resto shaman is out farming doing DPS rather than healing)

I'm fairly convinced I could hack it, but then that defeats the purpose of having an addon that I can download fixes for.

Oh, and you'd make my day forever if you'd create a bar that activated if it found *ANY* daily quest item in my bag, otherwise disable. I've taken to putting all these on a bar together and just leaving it there for ease of use...having it disappear when I don't have any of said items would be simply marvelous. Maybe do this as an option for object existance? Please?

Wasn't getting any timers in BT last night, with the most updated version of Incubator.

Got no timers for Shade last night. Bloodboil did work, however.

Any idea why I don't see anything by my own totem's deaths in the deaths tab?

@sid: Recount supports keybindings, maybe you accidentally keybound the damage done view to a key that you hit?

incredibly unlikely but I'll check. I don't use keybindings at all, nor have I been into the Recount config screen in months.

ou mean like, /bongos config or /bongos lock ? :)

I did /bongos and /bongos help and got nothing but the UI screen.

As far as I could tell, these did not exist....you might want to change the /bongos command to just list the different / options rahter than jumping straight to the UI window.

Don't you all know how many times each SVN entry has been downloaded by the WAU in the last day/month/year?

If not, that's the first thing you should consider coding. Once you know which addons are not ever downloaded...you have your first candidate list for purging.

Frankly, I'm a huge fan of:

    1 - archive entire SVN
    2 - archive entire forum
2 - start with a new, empty one
3 - let the devs move what they want into it, with a corresponding forum thread...only registered devs can start new threads in the addons forums.

I suspect you would quickly see the addons that need to be hosted on there and the ones that don't need to be, gone. While you are at it, maybe require a wiki page for each SVN entry with documentation, AND a link to the corresponding forum thread???? A recurring issue of many WoW addons is the glaring lack of doc.

Really, how many threat meters do we need? (The answer is 2...a lightweight and feature rich one...beyond that, they are bloat)

The one that gets me is the infinite number of bag addons.

You simply present far too many options to the uninformed, and often there is nothing beyond a weak description on the SVN of what an addon does.

Left click the minimap icon. And boom - there you have everything you're missing. The tooltip iirc mentions this. Configuration mode.

That would be it. The very *first* thing I do when I download an addon is eliminate the minimap icon. There should be another way to get to this beyond a minimap button...it should be in the /bongos menu somewhere.

I'm seeing a couple bugs since 2.4, and I don't see any of them mentioned here:

1 - it is resetting my selected window bacy to "Damage Done" alot...no idea why
2 - The "Deaths" tab is useless...its tracking the deaths of my totems only?!?! No raid members tracked

That's all I remember right now.

I'm having the same issue but the text on Pitbull frames will just disappear. Sometimes it comes back but then it can go away again. I've also noticed this is happening to my CowTip tooltips too.

I updated earlier today and didn't see this issue so I think it has been introduced just recently.

It may or may not be related by I get this error while starting up:

...owTip\libs\LibTalentQuery-1.0\LibTalentQuery-1.0.lua:38: Cannot find a library instance of "CallbackHandler-1.0".

    Same issue.

Another thing I'm seeing as it wants to make me "Offline" all the time when the text is actually showing. I think this might be happening when I Alt-Tab out...it works fine up until that point...
