A little feature request - if someone is interested in creating an Leetfilter Addon :):
It would be nice if
a) The addon would offer some simple translations for outgoing messages, too. Nothing big, there is no need for a premade database, if the user is able to add his own translations easily. (With a slash command perhaps?) I am thinking about something that makes a :) I write appear as a *smile* in chat, for example, or a simple "Pat" as "Beware! Incoming patrol!". Like that you could avoid to annoy some hardcore roleplayers around you with abbreviations, when typing in a hurry (e.g. in combat). And you could use the addon to fix common misspellings and typos, too.
b)It would be really nice if there was a possibility to edit the database of translations - either with a .lua file easy enough to understand for everyone to edit, or with a ingame possibilty to add/alter the entries. Like that it would be possible for users to add new abbreviations (e.g. for new instances, after a new patch) on their own, without having to wait for an update of the whole addon.
c)Saving the translations in a separate file, not inside the .lua itself. Like that it would be possible to update database and addon independent from each other.
All this are only suggestions, of course. I have no idea of making addons and can't imagine how difficult it will be to implement all this features :) .
It is just - well, as the big topic says - just an idea. And I am still hoping someone gets interested in it, since there is NO addon around to do this.

Apr 12, 2008Is it possible to make SimpleSelfRebuff check for combat status (yes/no) like it already does for resting? Then usage of this absolutly wonderful addon would be more comfortable for warriors with their shouts. At the moment I have to turn the watching of shouts manually on when I start fighting and off again when I stop fighting, because otherwise SimpleSelfRebuff keeps warning me to rebuff my Shout when I have no rage to do so.Posted in: General AddOns
Apr 5, 2008The addon leetblock had the feature - I liked it for exact that reason - to mark the translated text with a prefix ("txt"). Like that you understood what was said, but you knew that he/she was using leetspeak and/or abbreviation. (And, btw, there may be situations - for example when someone is in a hurry or in the middle of a fight - that someone uses abbreviations I don't understand but a party may not be that bad ;) ... . ) The other thing is: I for my part don't like it if I have to read leetspeak in chat at a roleplaying server. And since I can't stop people from using it - why not avoid seeing it :) ...Posted in: Addon Ideas
Apr 1, 2008Ravagernl may be right, even though I never had this problem while testing, because the suggested mod doesn't work with more then 8 lines of "replacements" anyway (I have really no idea, why ...).I guess, the lua files of the other mods (Eloquence, Leetblock and so on) are a little more complex for a good reason. I still hope someone will figure out why they stopped working with the new patches and create a workaround ...Posted in: Addon Ideas
I still think it may be a great ace mod ;) - perhaps a plugin for Prat?
Mar 31, 2008Update of Update: Ok, something doesn't work with Malcom's Suggestion - at least when I tried it ;) . With more than three lines of text to replace there happens ... uh ... nothing. When I edited the three lines in Malcomes code it worked. (???)Posted in: Addon Ideas
Maybe this is an coincidence, I don't know.
I sent the files to a friend, perhaps he will figure out how it works.
Mar 31, 2008Update: Malcom: You are my hero !!! I did it ... well, to much to say I did my first addon, but with copy and paste of your code I finally have got something that works - until someone wants do do it "right" and create a proper addon.Posted in: Addon Ideas
Thank you so much!!!
(I only have to remember not to autoupdate the changed version of Basicchatmods now ;) ...)
Mar 31, 2008Ok, thanks for the answers. I tried the change in the Eloquence.lua egingell suggested (I finally found the line ;) ). But it still doesn't work. Eloquence loads, I can change all settings I want in options screen, there are no error messages - but it doesn't apply any filters at chat messages - neither incoming nor outgoing ones. It simply ignores all messages. With "apply filter to own messages before sending" set to "on" I even can not send messages any more (enter doesn't send chat messages to chat then ...).Posted in: Addon Ideas
It definetly worked for me before patch 2.4 (in spite of the mispelling) and stopped after patching the game.
So I really hope someone may follow Malcoml's idea to create a little replacement for the filter part of Eloquence. I have to admit I have no idea how to do it myself (I know where to switch a PC on and off ... that's it ... :P ).
Pretty please!?!? :) :) :)
Mar 30, 2008;D Eloquence works still with patch 2.4?!? It worked before that, but after patching from 2.3 to 2.4 it stopped working, and since Eloquence itself wasn't updated before patch 2.3 I thought it was an issue with the changes in chat system that came with patch 2.4.Posted in: Addon Ideas
Could you give me an exact step by step walkthrough what I have to change where in the Eloquence folder to get it working with patch 2.4? (I have really NO idea of addon code ;) ...). You would be my absolute hero!!!
(And if someone knows a little about addons? Any idea if it would be possible to (re)make Eloquence Ace and modular to reduce memory usage?)
Mar 28, 2008It is just an idea, but I really hope someone who is more familiar with creating addons acts on this suggestion, since there is no working solution for this, as far as I know.Posted in: Addon Ideas
I am looking for an addon - nothing big - that translates leetspeak and abbreviations into "normal" English. (u --> you, BE --> bloodelf, plz --> please, thx --> thanks, DM --> Deadmines, BRD --> Blackrock Depths and so on). Perhaps with a convenient slash command to add user specified translations. Mainly for incoming chat messages: To help second-language speakers (like me) and new players to understand what others are talking about and to "filter" expressions that are annoying, especially at roleplaying realms.
For roleplayers it may be interesting, of course, to have a translation of their own, outgoing messages, too (e.g.: LoL --> Hahaha!, or "Bye" --> "Farewell my friend!"). In addition to addons like Roleplaying Helper, perhaps.
There are some older addons (Leetfilter, Leetblock, Eloquence (translation in both directions!)) which did this, but they all stopped working.(Eloquence at last, with patch 2.4). There is a newer, french addon, Decrypteur, which seems to work like them, but only for French. (And no, I can't adapt it for English ;) ...).
So perhaps this would be a market gap? A new plugin for Prat, perhaps? Or even a standalone?
It would be really awesome if someone could do this! ;D
