It's possible, but this isn't really an exploit classifying it as one is just silly.

Jan 21, 2008Posted in: General AddOnsQuote from Grayhoof »/focus NAME does not work with this hunter pet issue. It behaves just like /target or /targetexact, but actually I don't think /focus can take a name, I think you have to give it a unitid or nothing, meaning your current target.
I know that focus can take a name if the player is in your group/raid. I don't recall ever trying to type it out for an enemy though, so I don't know if that works.
Edit: what I was trying to say above (if what you posted was in response to it) was to just /focus the player in question (however you can successfully manage that) and use that instead of the arena mod. And report it as a bug if a pet with the same name screws things up when you try to use a focus frame or a /cast [target=focus] or do anything that uses the 'focus' ID.

My understanding of the term is also 'Absent Without Official Leave,' and it has never meant anything more than the 'absent' idea to me, which is different, if not a far stretch, from the idea 'does not function reliably.' That's why I posted what I did, but if it has grown to mean something else where you live, I'll clam up!
Back on topic, these are the best options for you that I can think of, since there is nothing that can be done with the API to work around the problem now:
1. Report the player/pet and see what happens (good luck).
2. Post a suggestion in the WoW UI or Suggestion forums to allow a way to reliably target a player enemy based on its name while ignoring pet units (good luck).
3. Use /focus on the target that shares the name with the pet, and use that instead of your arena mod for that particular unit.
If number #3 fails due to the naming issue (it shouldn't!), it is a bug which should be posted on the WoW UI forums.

Not necessarily. They have a history of deleting threads that detail things that are actual exploits so that other players do not attempt to duplicate them.

It messes with anything that uses names to establish a target. That usually means macros but many mods use macros to do their targeting/focusing as that is the only way to do some custom functionality since the introduction of SecureFrames and protected code.
This is all my opinion, and is based on things I've heard trolling forums and such.
I'd understand Blizzard taking action if this naming issue interfered with the behavior of their code. For example: /focus SomeName, where SomeName is shared by an enemy player and an enemy pet; followed by /cast [target=focus] spell. If this did not work, then I can see them doing something about it (codewise or policywise).
If your mod (which I love, by the way) failed to work because it targeted the nearest enemy that matched SomeName, I would be really surprised if they cared. This is the default /target behavior and has been the default behavior for as long as I can remember (note: I have a poor memory!). This feeling is reinforced by the fact that they have only given users two unique ways to target a specific unit (target and focus), and have, for example, denied the request to target things by raid icons.
But, you know, they're the ones who choose policy, not me. This is just my interpretation based on information I have received.

Edit: I just read the comments and somebody mentioned that it was messing with focus macros. If that is the case, I can see why Blizzard would take action. But it still strikes me as a "oh we need to fix our UI code" thing over a "oh we need to create a new policy" thing.

There's an issue reported in the jira-thingy, I updated it with your image. I can't tell you anything you can do to fix it; it does it to me as well.

Soo, if you release or DC or are somehow farther than 200 yards from the action, you will miss out on some data without somebody else (either their combat log for WWS, or using some meter that 'syncs') to fill in the gaps.
If you want an overall breakdown of raid activities, use either SWS or WWS. If you want to just track your own performance, use whatever. There may be another addon that works as well as SWS (in terms of information accuracy and depth), I stopped looking because SWS is perfect for me.

-Frame Updating in Combat 1: When a new player is added to the party in combat, the frame does not show until you leave combat. This does not happen if a member leaves the party, then rejoins it (all while in combat), so I'm guessing this is part of the frame recycling system? Would it be possible to turn this off for party frames?
-Frame Updating in Combat 2: When changing targets in combat, sometimes the new health/buffs/whatever information does not display on the target frame until something changes. I can't duplicate this consistently, but it happens mostly when I pull two mobs, one dies (and I may loot in between, here), and change targets to the other one.
-The Random Giant Box of Color: I saw someone post about this a while ago, but it has happened recently, usually when joining a battleground. It disappears on its own after a short time. Any update on this?
Post back if you want any more information from me (I was vague about the last one because I know it's been reported before). Thanks for all your work.

Edit: if I had to guess, it might be something to do with how the frames are recycled. When the frames are 'destroyed' they probably removed the unit attribute as well as the UnitWatch.

May 11, 2007Hi. Just wanted to make a small request for how the notes show up on the minimap. Would it be possible to have an option to disable the mouse/tooltip when you hover over the icons on the minimap? I'd like to be able to mouse over a mining node and see what is actually there, rather than what was there the last time I mined.Posted in: Map/Minimap AddOns
