Oct 4, 2010I am authoring Broker_Wallet and a new simple PVP display for LDB. When I pull the icons for items from the Blizzard UI, they are really tiny on the broker bars. Is there any good way to make these bigger by default?Posted in: Lua Code Discussion

In English, localized_label == "Justice Points". icon_file_name == "pvecurrency-justice" (doesn't have the path). I use this to insert the justice point icon in my strings:
How were you able to find the values for GetCurrencyInfo() ? Hunt and peck method? Or is there a master list somewhere?

I guessed so. I know the approach I used differed from the classic main/alt terminology, and from what I read it's not what you need. Typically, the concept works fine in a small guild like mine where everyone knows everyone.
If you're trying to keep things simple, then yes indeed, DataStore is a bit overkill. It's fine as it is now because it writes itself in a bigger picture (main module as a service provider to other modules and to client addons), but not if the initial prerequisite is not met (ie: not setting a specific char as the main). That said, if that had not been the case, only the main DS module would have been necessary for you.
I'd say yes and no. It reveals its potential when multiple client addons start using it. I won a lot of time when coding my second addon thanks to all the stuff that DS was providing. I didn't know of any other addon designed with shared data in mind when I started DS, so I tried to do it (also a fun way to play with Lua and to see how far I could go), and I'd be ok to adjust it if the community wanted to go that way.. I'd welcome more hands on the project too :)
Anyway, that was just my 2 cents :p

Some information on how Altoholic works might help, as well as some insight on how I took some decisions while coding these features.
The first thing you should know is that Altoholic itself no longer stores information, most of the data is handled by the DataStore series, which acts as an independant layer. So if you want to look at the code, just read DataStore\DataStore.lua, the whole thing about main-alts relationship is in there.
When I started coding the guild features present in Altoholic, and more specifically the guild members/skills panes, where you can expand members to see their alts, I also considered the idea of tagging a character as a main, but I never did it that way because I felt it could confuse the user, and I tried looking for a way to automate the process for him.
What I came up with was to slightly alter the notion of main/alt, by considering that the "main" is the character currently being played (even if it's a low level alt), and that the "alts" are all his other characters in the same guild.
So question 1) Does your addon need to stick to the real definition of main/alt ? Or can you live with an approach like mine ?
Question 2) Do you really need to actually store the main/alt relationship ?
If you look at DataStore, I don't save this relationship, I simply check at logon which alts are on the same realm+faction+guild. If you do not need to know the main/alts relationships from guilds other than the one you're currently playing with, then you won't need more.
Check the function OnPlayerGuildUpdate() in DataStore.lua, you'll see how it works.
I can't tell if my approach would be ok for what you intend to do, but what I can say is that in more than a year since I released these features, no one has ever complained about the approach, quite the opposite in fact, users find this natural (at least that's what my guildies say :p).

that's correct, for the minimap i used the gloss texture from dMiniMap2 ;)i think the nameplates are tidy plates : neon and the minimap is self made
