Ah yes, Monty Python, thought I recognized it from something like that.

I am designing a UI based on Caiths UI. I've been reading a bit on how to make/setup good UIs. One of the things that is recommended, is to talk to a "Color Expert" - I am, by no means, an expert at anything remotely close to colors...

So, i was wondering - Would anyone be kind enough to post three shades of colors that that would look nice in a UI that has a lot of black? I am thinking of blueish greyish colors.

    Thanks in advance!

My personal recommendation is to not use overly bright colors in borders, it will be distracting, you might not even realize it. Eg. A bright red line will mostly pull your attention to it. Since red is a common color to indicate danger or get attention. Lime green, just don't use it LOL.

Always test colors before you base anything of it. I once saw a site with bright blue and bright red, instant headache :P Of course I can't imagine anymore doing that, but still, testing colors on a little palette in any image editor (Paint works even) by combining them is essential.

Now because you stated black as primary UI color, you're free for all colors, though I wouldn't go too subdued and dark, because there will be no contrast between that color and the black.

PS. On that site you linked, music is listed as essential. It's true lol. If you listen to eg. sad depressing music, you will be more inclined to use cold colors. Psychological thing I assume. :)

Wait, there's people on the IRC? I've checked there several times already, never seen people >.<
I got the freenode one and the datavertex one.

Well, I went by what I knew from PhP (god that was wrong for lua lol). I wrote up un pseudo code what I wanted to achieve, looked up the API, usage of frames without creating XML for them (I want them made from the lua file), got lost, checked other xp bar mods, got lost more, watched lost... Fiddled and read more, took shitloads of notes, took a break to code some java to clear my head, and went to bed. LOL

No but seriously, I keep getting a nil value error, yet when I print out the vars in DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME they aren't nil. :( Though my bar isn't getting created either, but I am guessing using statusbar as frametype isn't optimal, most mods use frame as type.

I'll add my msn etc into my profile, feel free to add me :)
ps. Xfire for me is always open unless my pc is off - if I don't reply on a messenger, I ain't at the keys. (xfire : kaymoonwitch )

Well, after some odd hours into this attempt, I am about ready to shoot myself for entertaining the thought of writing my own XP with Rep bar mod. Honestly, I didn't realize what it takes, and chapeau to the addon devs now.

Ace is definately easier for a lot of things (or Ace2), though Lua isn't as bad as it looks. But the ~= (does not equal to) in comparison with most languages with != threw me off LOL

It may be you... I don't see a horizontal scrollbar in FF...

I can not resist this... It's usually me, well, that's what the voices said when the doctor let me out of my straight jacket :P

Naah, seriously, the bar's gone, perhaps when I checked something was messing about with my Fx, don't know. It is gone now, so all is well :)

I am by no means an expert, but a few days ago, I was feeling what you're feeling now.

To use custom textures, scripting and the whole shebang, you need to turn on the advanced Settings (In the fubar menu, it's the second line I believe).

To add a script to a panel, you go to Panel Settings, select your panel, go down the list until you see Scripts or Lua Scripts and then "Add new" I think it was. Then you get a pop up, where you type in your lua code directly.
    For more info http://www.wowace.com/wiki/EePanels_Scripts

About textures, WoW apparently has specifics on how a tga should be made to be used.
    1. Use the default resolution.
    2. Sizing has to be a power of 2 (let's keep it simple, keep it 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, etc - those are default texture sizes)
    3. A tga for WoW, always needs its alpha channel.
    4. When saving the tga, make sure you select 32-bit and DO NOT compress it. That's about all, or at least on the tga's I've imported. Default PS settings, work the file, Ctrl+S, select tga from the file format list, save it, make sure it's 32bit and uncompressed. I do always make sure I don't have spaces in my file names, a habit I picked up in linux, perhaps that's part of the issue.

Editted based on corrections made to avoid confusion (corrections appear in BOLD)

Quick Question pertaining to PitBull lay-outs.

How on earth do you get the PvP Icons (and other icons not including aura's) to change position and size? The options for PvP, Combat, Rest are greyed out for me. And for the life of me, I can't find how to enable them, other then that, WoW to the lay-outs here. Once I get down n dirty with them myself, I'll be sure to post them here.

Well... If you're seeing them, I'm assuming that you have the modules enabled. ;) Go into configuration mode - then you should be able to fiddle with them.

Yep, I saw them, I just tried to edit the size etc when not in config mode >.< (You can smack me now)

FuXPFu shows both an xp bar and a rep bar.

Yeah, I know. I used to use that one, loved it in fact, but I never did manage to get the bar to NOT attach to my Fubar panel (top or bottom), and mine's set to autohide to keep the UI less cluttered. (Which is why I wanted to ditch Fubar, but Cait's UI reminded me of the autohide feature, I always glanced over it LOL)

Well I did use the old one, now I've checked the WIP site, it's far from as bad as it's made out to be on this thread.

I like how it's split up in pages, though I suggest pagination based on the first letter of the addon, pagination/search based on category, using an advanced search option (with again the categories to be selected).

Also, it could be me, but currently in Firefox, there is a horizontal scrollbar displayed, while no visible table or div goes over the width of the screen.

    • Try using mumble for your chat. For pitbull/quartz disable all modules you don't need from the addon menu.
    • Grab XPBarNone off the svn and see how that works for you.
    • Dafont or Deviant Art may have what you need. Also check Deviant Art for resources pertaining to texture creation.

Thanks for the tip on Mumble, it works like a charm, though ChatFrameExtender2 worked similar, with a UI. But I will most definately check resources and possibly that's staying in :)

PS. I might have sounded quite bitchy/snappy in my previous reply, I had just gotten up (Made note to not reply before my first coffee and cig.)

XPBarNone, as almost all XP Bar mods can only show either the XP Bar or a Rep Bar.
Is there any addon that will let me show both (possibly even more than 1 Rep Bar)?

Well, can't make promises I may not be able to keep, but I am wanting to make an addon, and since XPBarNone isn't exactly what I want, I may end up writing it myself and I'll try to get that done too :)
