As for the message about an addon blocking the battleground, that's not actually Grid's fault, but due to the way libraries are shared between addons, and the fact that so many addons use dropdown menus (which is what actually causes that error, because Blizzard's dropdown menu system is made of schizophrenic spiders), it's basically random which addon will get blamed for the problem.
Hi everyone i'm having a problem with grid and i'm not sure if it is a bug or if i did something in the setting. Sometimes when i log in or i join a group the grid frame extends more than it should instead of just bordering around the groups. i have included a picture so you guys can see what i'm talking about.
The background frame is sized based on the layout -- if you've chosen a 10-player layout or a 5-players-with-pets layout, then the background frame will be sized to contain 10 unit frames, even if there are currently only 4 players and no pets in your group. This is how it's always worked; changing it to dynamically size the background has been on my to-do list for a while but I just haven't gotten around to it. Maybe for WoD. In the meantime, just choose a layout that matches the actual size of your group -- a 5-player layout for parties, a 10-player layout for 10-player raids, etc. -- if you don't want the "extra" background.
Hey there! Tell me plz how can i configure a class order?
I found local DEFAULT_GROUP_ORDER = "WARRIOR,ROGUE,PALADIN,DRUID,SHAMAN,PRIEST,MAGE,WARLOCK,HUNTER,DEATHKNIGHT" in GridLayoutLayouts.lua, but whatever i change - nothing happens. I can even delete this line at all.
I have "By Group 5" layout active and "groupingOrder = DEFAULT_GROUP_ORDER," is being set fot this. I can set it to "groupingOrder = 1" and nothing will change. Cant get the logic. Thx.
I don't know what version you're using, but there is no such line in GridLayoutLayouts.lua. I'd suggest you reinstall the latest official version of Grid before requesting further assistance, as we can't provide any support for code we didn't write.
In any case, the groupingOrder attribute will only have any effect if the groupBy attribute is set to "CLASS". See the "By Class 10" layout for an example.
My bad. I have GRID2. I thought this thread covers both grids but now i see that it doest. Anyway i had no choice cos i cant see any GRID2 support anywhere. But it works the same way. Thx a lot. Now its perfect.
I was wondering what state grid is currently for WoD? I can also see no official beta versions or comments about the expansion. To be fair I havent tested it for beta bosses, but after seeing grid2/vuhdo/etc left quiet for a long time now, I just wanted to check if you guys are still maintaining it?
I've got by before with basic lua to hack addons into working (cutting out broken/obsolete functions), but I would be lost if some new boss mechanic throws a spanner.
Using grid almost solidly since WotLK bar a month or so of the norushen/sha lag, so thanks for keeping the addon running for all this time. I appreciate that you are volunteering to maintain this, please take this as a personal reassurance rather than an angry demand :)
I definitely plan to update Grid (and all of my addons) for WoD, and have already had beta access for over a month, but just haven't gotten around to it yet since I just don't care about playing on beta servers. :p
The next update will also include built-in statuses for group leader, raid assistant, master looter, raid icon, and role. The last two are especially common requests, they're all present on the default raid frames, and they require minimal effort and operational overhead to implement.
I'm also open to suggestions on how layout switching by group size should be handled in WoD since all raids are flexible. I really don't want to have graduated "use this layout for groups of 1-5, use this layout for groups of 6-10, this for 11-15, this for 16-20, this for 21-25" settings so at present I'm leaning toward making the following changes:
- There will only be solo, party, raid, battleground, and arena modes. The "N-player raid" modes will be removed.
- In raid and battleground modes, the background will be resized automatically based on the number of players in the raid.
- There will only be one "By Group" layout and it will automatically adjust itself based on the number of players in the raid.
Additional layout changes that are on the to-do list:
- Add a "By Role" layout since the secure group header system now supports filtering/sorting by role.
- Remove the hardcoded "with tanks" and "with pets" layouts. You'll be able to show tanks first using the "By Role" layout, and I'll add a "Show pets" toggle that will add pets after the rest of the raid with any layout.
I've finally added an actual indicator API. This means that your third-party indicators no longer need to hook any core functions, and will be less prone to breaking when Grid updates. All of the default indicators have already been converted to use the new API.
Feel free to check out from SVN and test it out:
There's still a bit of work to do in abstracting stuff like options and saved settings out to the API instead of hardcoding it, but that's less important and probably won't get done until after all of the WOD stuff I described in my last post is done.
Oh, the latest SVN versions (not tagging because too many users don't read changelogs and will download alpha versions and then complain that stuff is broken) also have the group leader, raid assistants, master looter, and raid target statuses. Role status is drycoded but needs to be debugged.
I've also been working (for quite some time, very slowly) on moving the aura scanning functionality out into a more standalone engine, with the ability for other modules to register auras to be monitored. The goal is to be able to split up the buffs and debuffs into separate modules, and for all plugins that currently run their own aura scanning routines to be able to simply register for a callback when the auras they're interested in appear and disappear. This probably won't get done before WOD either, though.
As for the numbers, from mythic pov id say have flex/20 raid layouts. From beta experience with the default frames, its nice to hide groups 5-8 when they cant be inside.
Groups that cannot enter the instance (based on both the instance itself and the selected difficulty) will not be shown in any of the default layouts; By Group, By Class, and By Role will all adjust their size dynamically.
It's been less than 24 hours since the patch went live. In that time I've been (a) sleeping or (b) at work. Calm down, and quit bumping the thread with duplicate "omg y u no update" nonsense. I'll tag an update this evening when I get home from work.
What I had seen had been extremely polite and civil, concerning asking very politely about the possible timeframe for an update. Nobody had made any demands like you stated, and considering multiple addon authors had their addons updated before or immediately when the patch was released, I think it was fine for people to make some sort of query.
