Hmm, the fix for clique breaks pets. If I comment it out, pets appear, if I don't, they don't. Also I'm not clear on why it is needed. Clique works for me perfectly without it, and the Grid unit frames are listed in Clique. I'm using the Cataclysm version of Clique from wowinterface.
Just to clarify, what I am commenting out to get it working is GridLayout:42
Didn't look like blizzard made an option to hide the raid button on the leftside of the screen. Maybe grid can have an hide option and run this code when in a raid?
if (GetNumRaidMembers() > 0) then
This code gets called when that event triggers. Looks like it works from some quick testing.
The default frames are actually quite capable in 4.0, probably enough for many people, tbh =)
While the new raid frames are a big improvement, I would contend that most Grid users use it because they like to be able to customize it to their needs and preferences. With the large variety of Grid addons available, we can customize it even further.
I'm going to keep hoping Grid is available soon, I know there are many healers that use this mod and would prefer to continue to use it. For me, I'm going to grab a glass of wine and settle into some Vuhdo tutorial videos while I wait. :)
Really, I think the latest commit to the branch for 4.0 is pretty good at this point. At the very least worth packaging as an alpha for 4.0 and getting it out there for broader testing. I suspect the main holdup is that Phanx is crazy busy with work and has his priorities straight.
"There will be a beta-ish release ready to go sometime tomorrow. There are still some issues being worked on, but everything works, generally."
While I can certainly understand and empathize with people's frustration as a healer, that your healing addon of choice isn't ready OMG RIGHT NOW, cut the guy some slack. He is developing an addon with little to no compensation for his time.
If you can't muddle through with clique and the default UI for a few days (at least until the weekend) - which is what I think I'm going to try to do, then check out VuhDo to tide you over. As I understand it, it is very close to Grid and is relatively easy to set up. No, it's not ideal - but it's also not the end of the world either (see what I did there? har!).
However, what you probably shouldn't do is belittle a guy who is giving up his free time to be part of a team that has brought us a quality, and complex, healing addon for the better part of five years, just because he doesn't have a release on patch day.
Hmmm. Didn't see anyone 'belittle' or say anything bad about Phanx here, actually. Phanx was very clear that he is doing his best but has a big work load at the moment. I'm sure he'll get something out as soon as he reasonably can.
Anyone who is so desperate that they can't wait can download the branch if they want.
