OMG, so I tried Grid again last night, and for the first time - it worked! I guess I've updated or removed whatever other addon might have been conflicting with it :)
Anyway, I love/hate it already. I had it running at the same time as agUF so maybe thats part of my problem. I was unable to "click a spell, click a target to cast it" onto my agUF party members while Grid was active - I had to click on the Grid frame instead. Owell...
But on to my question - is there a way to have it always show the character's NAME and health percentage, instead of switching that off to show "-1.2k" or some picture of a debuff or DOT?
I was looking at my agUF to see that "JohnDoe" was at 67% health, then trying to heal that person in Grid but getting confused since the name was gone. Trying to remember "John is the 3rd slot down" really sucks when you need to heal fast. Forget timing your Swiftmend.
I want to love Grid - I can see that if I learn it I'll be totally hooked. Probably the "-1.2k" thing is good, but.. until then - can I get back to just name/%HP?
How exactly is the name important to heal effectively ?
That being said, you can, with basic Grid, activate the second text indicator and put the health deficit there, so that it does not overwrite the name in the first text indicator.
If you monitor raid health on aguf and do the actual healing on grid you are doing it the wrong way. Stick to either of them but not both else you add a considerable lag between recognition and action. Also i never have seen the point of displaying health percentage as the hp bar itself serves this very purpose yet more intuitively. Healing pretty much boils down to instant decision making and prioritising and so i fully agree with you saying one should be aware of names. This way you can factor in personal qualities (wasd skill, tendency to use pots / stones etc), assigned tasks (strider kiting, spam sheeping, ranged tanking...) and when it comes to that, dps and heal output. The way i use grid is i have set hp bar colour to class specific, center text 1 displays name exlusively, 2 hp deficit /afk / offline... and a huge huge center icon to only show when someone has ice block / cyclone / divine shield / BOP on them.
nailer, thanks! After a fully Grid-enabled weekend, I'm much more comfortable with the lack of %HP though it still irks me not to have it :)
For my Druid, I've got CenterText 1 with the name ALWAYS, and CenterText 2 and 3 showing my countdowns for Rejuvination and Regrowth so I know when to pop the Swiftmend.
I've been using Clique for a great combination and very quick reaction times. The only problem there is I've accidentally hit the Windows key when reaching for the CTRL or ALT keys and of course that is very anti-productive for healer :)
