i spent a few hours searching but may have missed it. there's a lot of information about grid on the web but it's a bit scattered and difficult to wade through. for that reason i apologize if these question have already been answered:
1) is there a way to turn off or hide my own unit display in grid?
2) is it possible to make a unit frame background transparent without making the entire unit frame transparent? e.g. i want the unit frame to appear transparent until a low health indicator is triggered, at which point only the low health text is displayed (like floating text in a transparent frame). i have attempted this using the frame alpha but my results are limited to one of two outcomes: a black frame with text in it, or the whole unit frame is simply invisible (text and all).
2) I'm not quite sure what you mean. But if you want a transparent Grid, meaning you can see the World behind the frames: I've wrote an addon for myself which does that, but I deleted it 2 days ago because it didn't worked quite well (from the usability point of view) because the world behind the frames doesn't always has enough contrast to make the text/bar readable.
But if you want I can restore the addon and send you a copy (or put it back to the svn).
that's too bad you can't turn off your own unit frame. oh well, maybe someday! :-)
as for the transparency question, for instance, right now if you max the transparency for a unit's health bar, you get a black background. in order to make that black background transparent, i have to use the unit alpha setting, but if i do that, then other elements such as center text, icons, corner squares, etc. are also made transparent, in essence making all unit frames invisible. i'm looking for a way to make the background transparent without making all the other stuff transparent as well.
i know, at this point, i'm not really using grid the way it was meant to be used. i mean, it's clearly a raid tool. but what i would like to do is be able to arrange the unit frame dimensions to where they overlap with party member portraits (which i've already done) but have the health bar be transparent so nothing is visible until, say, another element is triggered (i.e. low health, curse, poison, missing buff, etc.). the effect would be that a party member's portrait would look completely normal until another element was triggered, in which case that element would simply appear on top of the party members portrait. basically, i want floating text and icons over the party members health bar with nothing else visible.
sorry, i know i'm probably not doing a great job of describing what i want, but does that make it any clearer?
There are no options, it just turns the healthbar background transparent, together with the normal grid background turned transparent, the whole grid is transparent.
