Maybe I'm missing something, but what information does a mana bar contribute to these situations that a binary threshold indicator does not? Depending on your class or raid role, set the threshold accordingly.
If you're a resto shaman wanting to know when you should drop Mana Tide, set the threshold to 60 or 70%, and when you see the blue squares/borders on the majority of your group, you're good to go.
If you're a raid leader wanting to know when you should swap someone into a shadow priest's group, set the threshold to say, 30%... or you could just tell your raiders to pay attention to themselves and speak up if they're running low on mana. Good raiders also shouldn't be depending on a shadow priest. They should be conserving mana as needed (i.e. 2-minute fight? Go nuts and burn your mana dropping 3k heals on people who are down 500 hp, and drink up afterward. Long boss fight? Pay more attention, downrank heals if needed, cancel long-casting big heals if the target gets healed while you're casting, etc.) and using mana consumables, not crying that they can't play without a shadow priest.
Warlocks should just use Life Tap when they get low on mana, without prompting.
I can't think of a single situation where it's necessary to know the exact amount of every raid member's mana, or where scanning over and mentally processing 20 mana bars is a faster way to see who's low than seeing 5 blue corners pop up.
Thank you Phanx. That post made me get rid of ManaBars :P Seriously, no sarcasm there, thank you.
Heh :) We have a number of re-rolls who everyone still calls by their original character name so I use it for that as well.
Yeah, I have that, plus people who know each other outside of the game and nobody ever uses their character name to refer to them. But the bad ones are the funniest and most satisfying. :)

Now I want to see a screenshot of a 25-man raid with everyones name set to 'Butt'.
Now, I was wondering, the plugins for Grid to show HoTs, why? I just added them manually to the Status watchers and boom - works fine. Though the extra indicators I may use :P

Apparently people want to distinguish their HoTs from other people's HoTs, see the durations of HoTs, and see the stack counts of HoTs. Personally I think those wanting all of this HoT-specific information should use a specialized HoT tracker/timer to supplement Grid. There's simply not enough space on Grid to show all of that information without it becoming massively cluttered.

LOL. I think I'll change everyone's name to either "heal" or "don't heal" :P. "Oh, sorry you died don't heal, but your name clearly says don't heal on my interface." I guess my guild wouldn't go for that.

I have a druid too, she's resto (this is apart from my holy priest). I use a hot/lifebloom grid module on her (GridStatusLifebloom), and it's invaluable. Rolling blooms on pve raids (rolling them on tanks really cuts down on huge damage spikes) = win. A decent druid can roll blooms on 3 people without it ever blooming. A great druid can roll them on 4 people without it ever blooming, but it takes a lot of concentration. I can use a classtimer (and I've tried) but trying to look at a timer and trying to find their names in grid in that 2 second window is just waaaaay too much.
I've never configured grid for mana bars, it's just extra clutter imo. If I really wanted to see everyone's mana, I can stick them in my XRS mod.

My GM is so adamant about ret pallies being teh suxor and being lame, I happened to not pay attention in ramps *oops you died... sorry* Simple story: Don't piss off your damn healer. Now in big raids where wipes occur badly etc, I would never do that, but in a little one like that? Yeah I do. (2 70's running 62 - 60 and 57, we should be fine)
All in all, I only care about a few things in grid, I'll speak from my pally point of view and not the priest in me :P
1. Who's got aggro - who's getting hammered the most?
2. Who needs heal?
3. Who's missing buffs I can cast? (Yes, I use greater blessings to spare my own sanity of clicking everyone)
4. Who needs purify or cleansing?
5. Who's out of mana, in particular - any healers/casters out of it? (though this applies more on my priest with Symbol of Hope)
6. Who's being a damn leech? (Though this is no really important, unless I am very annoyed already)
So in essence, Grid + Incoming Heals + Healer + autoresize is what I use :)
The autoresize, I hope gets implemented into Grid2.0 base. The healer stuff, no need for it - since several classes don't use it/need it. In the base package, I'd only include stuff to benefit most classes, but not too specific for a class. And to take the test, in an earlier phase in this thread, I specified I didn't use Grid because I couldn't get it configured. I'll change that opinion now. *I* just did *not* take the *time* to set it up and read through the options. So perhaps those defaults, while a good addition for lazy people like myself (or those very short on time), isn't really needed either. Anything extra would IMHO create more code -> more code = more stuff in memory and a higher chance of making an oopsie. What I will vote for in this aspect, is the creation of a layout wiki page, where people could add their layouts (Screenshot in raid + link to lua/lua in page) for others to use. And of course, but that's a beaten horse, documentation. And the way it looks - I may try my hand a little at that. Grid is worth the effort.

Well, I have a druid as well, but she's only lvl 14, and I've never been blessed with Lifebloom, so I know very little of it. Could you perhaps post a SS of your grid in action with LB going? (I'd greatly appreciate it.)

As a priest, all I want is just a corner showing if someone has my renew on them, so that I don't overwrite my own hot by mistake. If I want to know the duration I simply target them, but renews are usually just fire and forget unless it's a tank.

I want Grid 2.0 to differentiate between your HoTs and other players HoTs for exactly this reason. Development started on Grid before 2.0 and therefore before HoT stacking.
I have one massive question in my head. After today's series of posts I did in this topic, I did get my grid setup tiny and amazingly handy. LOL never realized profiles would be so damn handy (seriously, I never did setup up grid all the way, now I did).
Is there a working (workable) version of grid2.0, something we can look at and give some thoughts?
You'll find Grid 2.0 in branches, but I have no idea if it's anywhere near usable at this point. I'm sure Pasta/Jerry/whoever else is working on it will make a post when it's ready for alpha/beta testing.
I so want to alpha test it :P Please please please let us know... and if it's a closed alpha *pick me pick me pick me* :P
There's no alpha, but, as Phanx pointed out, the version I'm working on is on branch, so there's no "closed" alpha, and I see no point on creating such a thing. Do not post bug about the version or expect it do work, though.

Well, Jerry, as soon as it's slightly workable, I will gladly install it and look - test - try and comment :) (though I will pull the version from the branches just to look at how it's going :P because I can't help but be my curious self)

I am also a resto druid and just yesterday I read somewhere on wowace (is there another grid thread?) of a suggestion that I used in a raid last night and couldn't believe how simple it made the process. I also use GridStatusLifebloom and I added the GridIndicatorText3 plug in as well. On that line, I show "Lifebloom Duration". It actually shows the countdown right in the person's grid. I have tried so many dot countdown programs and they were way up there and my eyes are always in the grid. I wanted to thank the person for that suggestion and I'm glad to get to share it with you. I felt that I was MUCH more efficient with my hots.. better able to keep them on people. Hope it helps you as well.
Klairen, you shouldn't need the plugin? I only use GridStatusLifebloom and configured the 2nd text line to show the countdown. I have no other module or plugins.
For MoonWitch: Here's a quickie pic from my *cough* feral druid ( I have way too many priest and druid characters =P ) The small box indicator on the top right corner changes in color depending on how many blooms are stacked, blue is 1, yellow is 2, and green is 3.

Standard abbreviations D2D for Deserves to Die, EXP for Expendable, CoD for Collateral Damage, etc.

Ok, like 40 hrs awake == bad, sleep ~= bad.
if not sleep then
drop_into_comatose_state()
else
get_ass_to_bed()
end ..
Yeah.. But Alpha, I am really looking forward to this.
