I'm looking into converting from HealBot to Grid so that I can see my druid HoTs better. I've mostly made Grid look the way I'm use to but there's a few things I haven't figured out if they are possible.
1) Fade the health bar if the unit is at (or near) full health. I've played around with "frame alpha" and "low HP warning" but it doesn't seem to work. It does fade if I add the AFK alert so it seems this should be doable.
2) Color the health bar using a range of green->yellow->red depending on unit health percent. I like being able to quickly see by color the general health of someone - is there a way Grid can do this too instead of always the same color or just 1 color percentage?
1) Quite doable, but as far as I know nobody has written a module to do it.
2) May be doable with an external module, but I think the way Grid does (assuming you use the default dark foreground with class-colored background) it is much more sensible. The more colored-in a frame is, the more damaged someone is. Green/yellow/red doesn't make a frame more visually prominent as the unit's health decreases. Before you decide this is unusable, maybe try it for a bit to get accustomed to it.
Yes, I agree. Don't try to make grid like other unit frames. I think it's better to have the colored bar represent the health DEFICIT % rather then the actual health remaining %. The more color you see the more you notice for that person to be healed. It's just as noticable as changing from green to red. I also think it's better to color by class. You can make better choices on the heal you use (squishies get quick heals or shields, melee get chain-heals or hots, tanks get hots or quick-heals or long-heals depending on the situation, etc. The only option that could be added is an alpha fade from like .5 to 1 alpha so the colors get more bold as the health becomes more critical. That might be a worthy addon to work on.
I think too many people are confused or irritated at first by the way Grid displays things by default. You can try and change it to the way other unit frames look, or you can try the defaults for a while and realize that the defaults MIGHT be better for you in the long run.
