In order for the Main Tank section of PitBull to show up, the tanks need to be set in oRA or CTRA. If the raid leader sets them in the default Blizzard raid interface PitBull doesn't seem to notice they've been set. Request to have PitBull also show MT window if the MTs are set in the Bliz interface.

that was the "old" behavior.
the problem with that is that the blizzard "maintank" feature is somewhat limited.. so it was changed to use ora/ctra maintanks instead.
Currently PitBull will prefer oRA/CTRA for main tanks and assists, so if you have one of these installed, it will use the tanks set there. It will only fall back on Blizzard MTs if you are not running either of those addons.
Oi vay! So I hafta uninstall oRA in order to get PitBull to use the Bliz raid settings? Hmm, should probably add a feature request for a checkbox: Use Bliz Raid Settings / Use CTRA/oRA settings.
It's just a display. It doesn't handle any of the data communication between the mods. PitBull is not X-Perl. X-Perl is a unit frame mod that *also* handles CTRA, etc. compatablility, and deals with more than just MT frames. PitBull is just unit frames. It allows you to view the MT list in PitBull frames (so that they match the rest of your UI). That's all.

Indeed, that would be a perfect explanation to go into the FAQ. ;)
My problem is that some of our raid leaders don't use oRA or CTRA but I do. So they set the MT in the default blizzard frames and there is no way for me to see the MT view without them being set in oRA or CTRA (unless I turn off that addon apparently).
A potential solution:
- Prioritize reading rather than disregarding reading the Blizzard UI MT designation. If the user has oRA/CTRA but there is no MT marked, check Bliz designations.
Tell your raid leaders that Blizzard MT sucks. It's only limited to 2 MTs(?), doesn't display them in order(?) and whatever other stuff I've heard. (Note, I don't use em, I'm just trying to remember what I've heard :P )
I think people who require the use of any addons are idiots .. and also people who think that something like that should be forced.
Well i don't agree with this wording. I can see both points.
I don't know if you are leading any raids, but for my part i will require the use of addons and i have not met any raid leader of a continuous raid group on my server who does not. PuG's don't have standards, but they also don't meet on regular schedules and have a goal.
And to me it's seeing a full PuG using threat meters is a usually a good indicator for a good run and never turned out bad, e.g. people overaggroing, tank being unable to keep aggro and similar.
But now the discussion will most likely belong to general.
I agree.. and I'm not against addons... I love addons ;)
however.. everybody should decide which addons he prefers.. and which he don't like.
Of course someone who continues to pull aggro won't raid with us for long and we recommend to install threatmeter and bosswarnings.
But if someone can play without, why not ?
We farm Illidan for month .. and we never used maintank targets. We set symbols and everybody knows the order they get killed. Those who want targets set ora playertargets for themself.
EXACTLY as dafire says. Raid leaders that REQUIRE specific addons from members are idiots. I will never waver from this belief, because I had one of those. He fought with me over CTRA vs oRA every week. He thought BigWigs was a waste of my time when I started it, and then one week his precious CTRA_BM fucked up on Hakkar, and guess what saved the day? Yea, leaders that demand anything beyond "perform your role in the group to the best of your ability" can shove it.

A TK raid last night I could not see the MTs but another player with CT & Pitbull installed could.
Wait...having CTRA installed by the person wishing to use PitBull, even though they aren't the RL, is required to have MT functionality in PitBull?
If so, sure could have used that nifty piece of advice when I posted almost two months ago.

Yeah, yeah, I know, screenshot links in my posts are no longer valid. (As of the first week of this year)
Feature Request: How 'bout an FAQ entry on this or a little text in the Config UI that lists or explains this "requirement".

Better sugestion, get new raid leaders.. RL's that don't use AND Reqire the use of oRA2 / CTRA are idiots and need to fired.
To address Seerah's Questoins. the Blizzy MT frames support an 10 units iirc or unlimited but for sure are in random order per client.
