When I join a BG, I froze up for a good 1 minute before everything returned to normal, than I took a look at my addon memory(Bongos_Stats) to see it listed at 123 MB!? I took closer at the list it was showing AGUF using up around 110 MB. Any clue what's causing this?
has not happened to me with my aguf setup at all, but has happened to 4 of my guilds aguf user's and to one of our(shudder)ct user's, however i was testing pitbull out for someone and it did happen with pitbull (but only when i swapped layouts), reports seem to indicate massive memory usage figures (7meg+) underload when joining a new battleground.
oops just noticed that should have been 70meg+ (for aguf)
but again this is is not happening to me at all, ive tried to replicate it but to no avail, so the question is why isnt it happening to me when its happening to a lot of others.....
same problem here:
Join BG -> major pause -> fubar performance shows ag using 70mb+ memory
Sometimes 'force garbage collection' works and it drops, either way its pretty evil. I'm unsure as to whether its joining a raid or joining a BG thats doing it since I haven't been in a normal raid for a while.
Is there anyway to disable the raid part of this mod? I can cope without looking at the rest of the BG group for a while.
So I am hearing some people say it is a blizzard bug and that there's info about it in a blue post, but I can't find it. If someone finds it, please post the link :)
Seemingly xperl is the only unit frame mod that isn't having this problem. The way they're getting around it is to load the mod several seconds after you enter an instance so it doesn't cause the massive lagfest.

and how can I load it several seconds after log-in?
Yeah, I've been thinking of putting the creation of the frames on a delay, but that would only fix the problem at login-time. I've seen it happen rarely too when just joining a BG.
Got the same Problem since 2.1. When iam joniing an full BG i got freeze for some an minute and sometimes an complete crash.
Nice addon but at moment it not possible to play with it. Hope you fix it :)
I'll have to look at the xperl frame code, I think they have it on a delay when it enters an instance/bg too.
Although there's been some reports that it's fixed it, I'm fairly sure it just shifts the problem somewhat and it can still fail under similar conditions.
For the curious who where asking. It just delays displaying all raid frames. Does 1 group per OnUpdate (yes, yuk, I know). Check the XPerl_Raid.lua file and look for 'displayGroup' and you'll find all the relavant code.
I'm more and more convinced it's related to memory, rather than some problem in the mods themselves.
I can reliably replicate this problem on my warlock. The issue is minimal in the normal game world, in raids and BGs it is at its peak.
How to replicate:
Join a battleground. You may or may not get a 5 sec freeze up here.
Mount. Then dismount. You WILL freeze up for atleast 3-5 seconds.
Mount again. Dismount. No freeze up. Can repeat as many times as you like, no freeze up from here on.
Hellfire yourself to death.
Spawn at graveyard. You WILL freeze up for 3-5 seconds.
Mount. Dismount. You WILL freeze up for 3-5 seconds.
Activate fel domination. Summon minion. You WILL freeze up for 3-5 seconds.
Hellfire youself to death. Let the freezing start again.
I'm pretty sure it's easy to see the pattern from here on.
I've tested this on Ag_unitframes, Pitbull and Xperl, they all give the same results. Only one unit frame mod I've tested with does not give these freeze ups and thats Stellar Unitframes.
Would love to see this get fixed, can't play with ag_unitframes ( atm ^^ ) and can't play without it.

This is something else that I had been blamed for with X-Perl for a while, but later we found the culprit to be Theorycraft2 which causes large pauses when pet is summoned dismissed (which also includes mounting since patch).

took my lock to AV to try this, failed to replicate on all counts, but again i dont suffer from this for reason's unknown (possably linked to a mod i dont have, i use a LOT of mods but each 1 has a purpose ive nothing "extra just because")
you mention stellar as not haveing the problem, i ve never used stellar myslef does it have raid frames ?, if not thats why as it seems this problem is tied into raid frame code. however if it does have raid frames and this problem is related to raidframe code, then we need to look at what SUF has/doesnt have that makes it not suffer from the problem.

I'm playing WARLOCK with agUF-r38946/WOW-v2.1.1.6739
