I have no plans to explicitly send raid warning messages (directly calling SendChatMessage("RAID_WARNING",...). Blizzard has recently been adding the functionally equivalent (boss emote messages) to the most important abilities for all encounters. Though I may be able to add an option to allow raid leaders to make bars fire raid warning messages. For instance, dropdown bars could fire a raid warning message when they dropdown, center bars could do it when they appear, etc. I'm open to ideas.
Yes, there are Blizzard boss emote messages, redirecting the DXE message to Raid Warning through Sink and so on. What I'm requesting is not that, but totally optional raid lead-only (or raid assistant) raid warning chat messages when DXE warnings fire. Like BigWigs2 had. And for them to be able to be seen by everyone in the raid, including yourself (unless you choose to bossblock them). This is in addition to the Sink-directed DXE warnings as are there presently. Or else an option not to use one of the two message outputs (Sink, which can be set to "none" currently & the raid warning chat messages) for those who want reduced "spam".
As its not something you've had in this addon, don't expect it to be added. But I'd like it if you would :). And if there is enough request for it, it would be cool.
You'll only see warning message for bars labeled 'someability Warning'. Onyxia's Deep Breath is a cast bar. I agree that it should fire a warning message for it. I will probably add a toggle to make a bar fire a warning message, and default it on for certain abilities.
Yes, once you get used to a certain format of warning messages, having to fall back to something completely different (the Blizzard messages) means more time needed to get used to things.
The problem, though, wasn't just on Onyxia. I didn't see any MSBT warnings for when an Emalon add was charged or anything else during the VoA run.
The proximity window has to manually be shown either by typing '/dxe proximity' or clicking the left most icon on the encounter pane and then selecting 'Proximity'. I will be making it auto-show for certain encounters (see ticket #15).
Good to hear. Its essentially useless here without auto-start. Have a million things to think about before a fight begins; having to manually start the proximity window...is one more.
Thanks a bunch for your reply; look forward to seeing how this progresses.
re: screenflash
Not sure if this was the case at the time, but now you can select what texture you use and the alpha of it, allowing both DBM and BigWigs style full screen alerts.
I LOVE how smooth and effective this addon is, and the customizability is great. The only thing I'd ask for is options relating to the spacing between bars and some position options other than dragging. (Because of the "pixel straddling", it's incredibly difficult to get clean 2 pixel borders if a bar isn't positioned exactly right, which is impossible to do with dragging).
I'd managed to get it working with DBM through ages of trial and error (they don't have borders, so I did a KgPanel for each bar), but now that I've found this, why would I want to run DBM? :p
Letting a bunch of people know about this, as it's simply miles ahead of DBM/Bigwigs.
It seems like the timers for shadow strike on anub25h are early once phase 3 begins. Apparently DBMs are as well although a new beta fixes it but bigwigs ones work fine might have to switch to that temporarily :(
What I would also like to see for anub 25 hard mode is an option to config a warning for Penetrating Cold only when in phase 3 i.e When leeching swarm debuff is also on you. As it's very insignificant in phase 1/2.
That way I can get all my members to set it up to play a massiive unique sound (you will die c'thun sound comes to mind by default) when they need to healthstone/frostpot/immunity.
Also DBM's ability to mark the people who get penetrating cold with raid icons is very useful, it allows you to assign specific healers to each icon for phase 3 and should be added if possible.

You shouldn't have seen any MSBT warnings on Onyxia or Emalon. There are three types of bars: simple, centerpopup, and dropdown. Warnings only fire for simple bars. All the bars on Onyxia and Emalona are either centerpoup or dropdown. What I'll do is add a threshold for how long before a dropdown bar ends to fire a message. And I'll add a threshold for how long after a centerpopup bar appears to fire a message. Thankfully I've suffixed the variable names well enough so I can make it ignore certain bars, like 'X on other'. How does that sound?

I'll probably add some slider in the options, or even better, little arrows on the anchors to nudge them pixel by pixel.

This was fixed in 390-beta. DBM and BigWigs use the same method.

In v390-beta, Penetrating Cold does what you described, and I added multi-marking. It will use Icons 2-6. By default, Icons 2-6 are cross, square, moon, triangle, diamond. You can change this in Alerts -> Raid Icons.
90% sure i was using v390 last night but i guess tonight will confirm that.
edit: ugh didnt end up raiding
Using v390, these are my observations on the cast timer:
The first wave of adds casts exactly when DXE says it should. There was one attempt that we still had one add alive when the second wave was running in (which is when the second cooldown expires) and it started to cast again exactly when the timer ran out. The second wave appears to cast midway through the next timer (somewhere around 15 seconds remaining). Our add tank seems to have the timing down on when to stun them, but I'm not sure what that is. The bars do disappear when Anub burrows, which limits the usefulness.

I'll look into it. I'm not sure how the second wave casted shadow strike 15 seconds before the timer ended. At most it should be 1-3 seconds off. Also, the bars disappear because the adds will never cast shadow strike when Anub is burrowed, since Anub has to trigger it.
Silly question, but is there a line in the code where I can set the background alpha of the pane to be 0 without affecting the bar-backgrounds? Just on about perfecting my addon layout, and tinkering with the style of everything. ^_^

What I'm noticing is that the timer for the second wave spawning (which is spot on) and the timer for the second cast are expiring within 5 seconds or so of each other. Something obviously prevents the new wave from casting right as it spawns, but the timer is still valid for the old wave. Anub burrows before the third timer reaches 0, which is why I was assuming that there was a third cast (and our add tanks were being pro and stunning it correctly) but with what you say that may not be the case.
If the third cast will never get off, might it be better to hide the bars there until phase 3 when there's no longer a burrow to cancel the casts?

Unfortunately there's no easy way since it's tied to the global background color. If you remove line 1169 addon:RegisterBackground(Pane), then set your own backdrop and backdropcolor you can do it.

Yeah, the third timer for shadow strike shouldn't be there. It's something I'll be fixing in the future. Just remember that Anub will always only do 2 shadow strikes until leeching swarm. The problem is that the second shadow strike goes off before the burrow, and the mod doesn't know when your raid will be hitting leeching swarm, so it has no way of knowing if it should keep going or stop. In 10m, you could do the fight in one burrow or two. In 25m, a raid will do it in two burrows (maybe one in the future).
I didn't notice a global way to disable the "victory" sound besides changing it to something less intrusive. Is there a toggle I missed somewhere? I would just like to turn it off.
Just wanted to say that I tried this last night and am just impressed with the effort and attention to detail you have put into DXE. I deleted DBM altogether last night ;)
Is there any plan to include a simple answer function while in a boss fight? (like bosswhisperer)
I often find my self in midst of a fight when somebody whispers me - I don't have the time to answer - the persons thinks I ignore him and goes offline...;)
Should be easy to implement and could be turned off by default...just as an option for people like me?
Since you're already aware of BossWhisperer, why don't you just use it? It was written specifically so that anyone could have that feature, no matter which boss mod they use, or even if they don't use a boss mod.
The main reason was that this specific addon seemed to be abandoned. If it still works though and/or anyone knows a similar addon I will gladly use that...
Any chance of putting together an HOWTO for authoring ones own encounters, as well as providing an empty skeleton for those who like to quickly throw together encounters on things like the PTR?
