it appears that you have to check the SoundEffects option to be able to hear sounds played via PlaySound() and PlaySoundFile(). hopefully its possible to bypass that restriction or at least to mute all other combat sounds
Yes, there is going to be DXE for Cataclysm. It will be updated at least as fast as DV progresses through 25 man raid content. I'll be sure to add in features for moving things out of the way that were added.
I dl'd Transcriptor and have begun grabbing all teh 5 man and 5 man heroic content , as well as Baradin Hold, and will start on Blackwing tomorrow. Where am I supposed to send teh logs to , so you can add them?
I noticed that the addon _NPCScan can play sounds even if the game sounds are turned off. Is there anyway you can implement whatever they did to make the sounds work on DXE?

If im not misstaken NPCScann works by turning it on when it spots something, and the turning it back of

THIS please. With DBM falling further and further behind, I'd love to switch to DXE if there's a way we can contribute.
Several people here have asked for a way to temporarily turn sounds on. I have a general-purpose mod that does this, called FixModSounds. I use this with DXE on a daily basis and it seems to work; if anyone has trouble please let me know because DXE is the whole reason I wrote it.
Doesn't say, but there hasn't been an official release since december. And been getting unofficial updates since then. I use DBM now. Just don't feel the project is being updated fast enough for it to be reliable anymore. Which is dissapointing, cause DXE was light years ahead of DBM in every way.
Just because you can't deal with DBM properly it doesn't mean DBM is an inferior BossMod. I know some World Top 10 colleges and myself who play with DBM since WotLK came and were pretty much always satisfied.

Not sure what a "top college" is when it comes to wow, but I can tell you now, most of the top *guilds stay away from DBM with good reason ;)

DBM dun let me change how i want to be alterted to a warning, and i dun like how it looks, enugh reson for me to pick DXE.
DXE's official release isn't updated for cataclysm 2 months after release, people are downloading sketchy files from pastebin.com, and even so they (and you) are getting tons of LUA errors. I loved DXE in WOTLK too, but it's simply not a reasonable option right now.
DBM is less customizable but it has the very important distinction of actually WORKING.

Well personally, warnings i don't notice cos teh alerts just aren't notisable for me is just as bad as not working at all.
The fan files are dodgey, but when u get em to work they work just fine
Got a problem in Saurfang. Everytime I go, I got THOUSANDS of alerts. It gets so bad that not only the game drops to 1 fps, making it unplayable, but the pc is affected too. I didn't get any log or screen because it was impossible.

Why do people act like there are only two boss mods out there? I've been using BigWigs while patiently waiting for DXE to update, because like most people I can't stand DBM. I find it's a decent substitute and that the only thing I dearly miss is the boss health panel.
Though, I must admit that the molasses-like speed at which DXE is updating is very sad. What good is a boss mod that is only accurate after my guild is finished with progression? Yeah we have some heroics left, but for goodness sake, this is getting to be ridiculous.
I understand that authors work on these mods for free in their spare time as a hobby... but honestly I'm wondering what the point is when your mod lacks the basic functions for which it was designed and can't compete (currently) with other mods already created to do the same thing.
The expansion's been out for over two months, it's been over a month since the last alpha release and some of the bosses don't even have normal mode support? Is it going to happen with every patch cycle that we have to wait for Deus Vox to complete all the heroic encounters before we see an update for even the normal modes? Is Shefki (or anyone) even working on the mod anymore? I'd think they'd at least put out alpha releases when they added something new. Else, a notice that they're discontinuing the project (at least for public use) would be nice, and maybe someone else could pick it up or we could all make permanent switches to a different mod.
Regardless, thank you to the author(s) for working so hard on this mod in the past. I absolutely loved it through ToC, ICC and RS, and heralded it to all my friends and guildmates as the, by far, superior boss mod. Especially so due to its frequent updates (a point that stings now). Just a little update (of the mod or about your intentions) every once in a while would be appreciated.
Also: anything we can do to help? Would transcriptor logs of our boss fights be helpful? Where do we send them?

If u look at the project page there are some fan updates that are working pretty okay.
Yeah, that's not gonna happen. Bossmods are most useful when your entire guild uses the same version. I'm certainly not going to ask my guild to run a "fan update" downloaded from pastebin.com. DXE is effectively dead until the version on Wow-i and curse works.
As for other boss addons, of course there's more than DBM, that's just the most common one. Bigwigs works now also. I'm playing around with raidwatch2 myself.

If so was wondering the sound meter and other things like that on certain boss fights will be movable. Blizzard loves adding frames we can't move.
