oRA3 will use the Blizzard MTs for setting MTs, and additionally provide a function to sort those MTs. So an addon that knows about oRA3 can show them in the sorted fashion, one that doesn't can still show them, just not sorted. All win!
About the pullout frame, will there be an alternative? I never liked the feature much for Lightheaded either. I'd prefer if there was an option to just have oRA3 as a static pane side by side with the raid pane, with out any animations, or bells and whistles.
Pull it out once, and it'll stay pulled out even when relogging etc.
I'm confused about this whole MT frames issue. Will users of oRA3 be able to create an MT list that users of oRA2/MainAssist/CTRA/arbitraryunitframesprovidingCTRAtankframes will be able to see, and vice versa? Setting up MT lists is about the only thing we use oRA2 for any more now that readychecks are part of the default UI, so I don't see much point to oRA3 for my guild if it's going to break that.
Edit: Also, I can't believe noone has taken over the addon MainAssist or made something similar from scratch. Being able to right-click its MT frames to assign tanks to assist keybinds on the fly (when out of combat) is ridiculously useful.
Edit 2: Honestly there ought to be a feature to maintain a CTRA MT list that is synced with the Blizzard one. How many unit frame addons that currently provide MT lists are actually getting them from the Blizzard MT API instead of the CTRA MT list protocol?
ant1pathy, the blizzard MT list is unsorted while the one that come from CTRA/oRA2 are sorted. That's one of the big (read only) feature of this class of addons.
As for ora2's Ready check, while it does already use the blizzard stuff for it, I like how ora2 does it. Much better presentation than having the checkmarks on the UF n' such.

Definitely agree with this. I currently use ORA2, and it does not pick up and display MT's if the raid leader assigns them from the default Blizzard API (not sure if its suppose to or not, but it doesn't work for me). Luckily most of my guild runs ORA2 so its rarely an issue, but when pugging its kind of annoying, and I imagine will only get worse when ORA3 becomes more mainstream and MT frames are then the job of your unit frame addon of choice.
Even though all of this has been mentioned before..
1) oRA3 will completly break compat with CTRA and/or oRA2
2) oRA3 will use the Blizzard MTs, and additionally provide a method to sort them.
-- If you run an oRA3-aware addon, you get a sorted MT list
-- If you don't, you can still get MTs from the blizzard MTs
3) oRA3 will not provide MT frames
4) There will be a stand-alone addon that does so, I have it nearly finished and just waiting for the oRA3 MT API to be finalized before i release it. The style will be somewhat similar to how the oRA2 MT Frames looked.
Sadly, addons cannot set the Blizzard MTs, so the user has to do that in the blizzard raid interface. oRA3 will notice when you set one there, and add it to the sorted list (either by pre-defined position if configured, or at the end)

Nev, will said addon also support player targets in a similar manner to oRA2 or just MT targets that can only be set via Blizzard's raid UI ?
Even using a secure frame? I know you can set them via macro with "/mt Playername", so I'd imagine you could put that on a secure button in the macrotext attribute, and either have a key bound to that, or use some trickery to ninja the secure frame in under the mouse when clicking on something in a menu, similar to what oApplication does with items in your bag.

He meant not programmatically without user interaction.

I'm rather happy with the current builds of oRA3. I'm getting used to using the Blizzard UI to set the tanks. I can't get the tank tab working for sorting properly, but that's not as big an issue as simply being able to see at a glance what each tank is hitting.
The only things I'm missing (apart from a config menu that is implemented ; D) are being able to type /radisband instead of doing it via the GUI, and having player targets (for the odd occasion when raid leaders don't/refuse to set tanks, and to just be able to track who people are targetting - tho' I've not played with the 'main assist' feature in raids, so presumably that might also do it - tho' again, with recalcitrent RLs...), as has already been mentioned.
The new cooldown system looks quite good - I wonder if it is possible to make the list even more expansive? Being able to add stuns and interrupts for the various classes would trivialise things such as Auriya (seeing which OT has their stun on CD for the feral defender), or anything that involves melee (or casters) doing an interrupt rotation.
Some answers:
- No config menu yet, and we're not sure what to add in there anyway :)
- Player targets = Persistent Tanks, just add them and they get mixed in with the blizzard MTs. You will need a separate tank display addon that supports the oRA3 list though
- No short cooldowns will be added, this is mainly useful for the longer ones.
ok I'm confused, and admit I have not tried the addon yet.
Are you saying ora3 does not provide the frames AND the ability to set the MTs or are you saying it still has the ability to set MTs and broadcast that info to other addons, but it simply does not have the DISPLAY frame part of the MT info?

From what I gather oRA3 no longer sets MTs. This is done by the Blizzard interface. It will however sort the MTs for whatever addon you use to display MT frames. oRA3 no longer has MT frames.
As for player targets you can set these within oRA3 and they'll be added and sorted with the MTs from Blizzards interface in whatever MT frame addon you are using if it supports oRA3.

Well that's means ora3 won't be used by my guild I guess. The ability to enter MTs and sort them is pretty much a feature we could not get by without. The frame part itself being an optional addon I could see...the assignment and broadcast piece belongs in the raid assist addon IMHO. Throwing it into a secondary addon probably will not get people to migrate over for us...its hard enough to get them install ONE addon, making them do a 2nd will probably never float, and unless it has the version control reporting to ensure they do have it installed, we'd be back in MC with people hitting the wrong stuff.
The blizzard MT setup is the typical half-baked blizzard implementation of good addons (ie Equipment Mgr, SCT, etc)

No no... you misunderstand.
Functionally (for MT) there is no practical changed except for that oRA3 won't provide frames. HOW they implement the MT system is subtly irrelevant. They will still be there as expected.
As a bonus oRA3 will be setting MT's via Blizzard's API, so that ppl w/o oRA3 can still see the MT, they just won't be sorted.

Please let us know when this is done, thanks.

the config is mostly in the slideout panel. I added the Options button to give the Disband Raid button a counterpart on the rightside :)
I have no clue what to actually put in there atm.
