Im with KnThrak on this one, with a touch of "bunch of little mods that do 1 thing really really well". That way I can have it all in several small addons maintained by different really good authors. Instead of one huge ugly addon that sorta does everything but badly. Tho this is where well designed modularity comes in play.
This Tip of the raid sounds interesting, however I know that it'll be one of those "if you don't like it, turn it off" kind of features. This seems to be the usual M/O of the BW Authors.
Some of us are using BigWigs because it's the closest thing to a tactic-agnostic boss mod.
(to get warnings, not strat or hand holding)
How long before that "feature" starts creeping into the main functions?
Edit: Are you getting a revenue cut from websites, pro-guilds etc feeding you tips?
If it catches on you might have a nice case of selling ad-space there without
actually breaking the addon guidelines as you're not charging or soliciting donation
from the users themselves.
(they're just the masses of uneducated raiders and your unwitting audience)
Edit2: It's unfortunate that this was brought up, it made me look the page describing
the feature up and actually read it. The more I did so the more sick to my stomach I got.
Pity there's no such thing as selective amnesia, now that I know of it it will keep bothering me.
Just turn it off. It's that simple. Don't want it? Don't have to.
From looking at things the three bossmods are currently clearly emphasizing their own unique features and getting developed that way.
I've always viewed BigWigs as the "minimal and elegant" boss mod. There have always been a few options I wished the devs would add, but the addon has been very usable without those things, and I preferred it over DBM and DXE because of its simplicity. I've also appreciated how BigWigs has avoided adding strategy-dependent features. However, adding promotional fluff like "raid tips from <insert big guild here>" is a pretty clear deviation from that original design, and is neither minimal nor elegant.
I know a lot of people who use BigWigs and swear by it. They like it because it's simple, clean, easy to set up, and works with little to no configuration. I also know a lot of people who use DBM and swear by it. They like it because it "does more" and has a lot of options to play with. I really can't imagine either type of user incorporating "it gives me advice from big guilds on how to raid" into their rationale for which boss mod they use, but I can very easily imagine either one using it as a rational for which boss mod they don't use. :p

It's not that simple. Even if I "just turn it off", I'm still loading the database of "raid tips" that will likely never stop being added to. It's still wasting RAM space and forcing me to spend more time waiting through the loading screen. If this kind of thing were a separate plugin, like CommonAuras, I'd have no problem with it whatsoever. I just don't think it belongs in the core.

I assume most of the guilds included are the ones contributing to the boss timers/warnings themselves, and that 'cutting edge info' is important for boss mods especially as PTR testing is becoming more limited. So people can incorporate "it gives me the latest, more accurate info" into their rationale for which boss mod they use. If the BW authors get logs from these guilds to help make BW better overall, I see the raid tips with the 'advertising' as a little thank you. I know that many people choose BW because it's more up to date/accurate than DBM.

It probably should be a separate addon like CommonAuras. But seriously consider investing in a new computer/RAM if it's that bad for you, the data can't be too big, wasting RAM space is such a lame excuse since it's cheap and doesn't matter (we're talking MB if that). The tips when finished later, I assume, would be LOD anyway.

Don't go down that road. Memory is always an issue, even if you only use 10MiB across all your addons. Just throwing more silicone at the problem doesn't fix bad code.

This has nothing to do with bad code, your post has moot point, because memory is hardy ever an indicator of bad code, infact the best indicator of bad code is the author.

When i read over this post all that came to mind was "And when have any of the BW Authors ever shoved something that has a variable usefulness down everyone's throat?".
Not 3 pages ago they denied boss health display in the core, yet encouraged a separate module for it for the exact same reason. In fact, im willing to bet that they'd rather write an LoD Module for something that only half would use than bloat up the core with it.
One has to seriously wonder when post and completely disregard the usual M/O for the BW authors.

Are you going to buy me a new computer and/or more RAM? "Cheap" is subjective; maybe you can afford to spend money on unnecessary hardware, but I can't. In fact, if my computer exploded tomorrow, I wouldn't be able to replace even a single part of it. There's nothing to consider, seriously or otherwise.
Also, "buy a new computer" is almost never a technologically correct response to someone expressing concern about the resource usage of a WoW addon. It's the principle of the matter, not a practical problem.
Finally, "it's not necessary to use that much memory" is not even close to the same thing as "my computer can't handle it".
I've noticed that the shadow strike timers seem to reset randomly, at least with alpha builds. I'm on r6662 atm. I'm thinking this may be due to bigwigs syncing possibly with more stable releases without the changes to the timers maybe?
Latest BigWigs Alpha has nifty options to change the colors per toggleoption.
If you're running svn checkouts make sure to update your Ace3 to latest as well or the color options will be tiny
On the current PTR for Patch 3.3 the new Raid in IcecrownCitadel is being tested a lot.
If you'd like to help creating the bossmodules for it and do raids on the ptr "please use the Transcriptor-Addon , ZIP logs, file tickets under BigWigs on wowace.com and attach the logs there (or possibly upload somewhere else and just link it from the ticket) " (a /combatlog is also welcome if you dont have/want to use transcriptor)
you're also welcome on the #bigwigs irc channel on freenode to share your thoughts on what warnings you'd like to have.

how can i pop out message through say channel
i can find an option about it
maybe i am a noob
You can't and you never could. Some warnings are set to /say, like Shadow Crash on General Vezax (''Shadow blast on ME!!'').

Interestingly, I've often heard the opposite from DBM fans. :p

You praise for the wrong kind of things. Really you do. Turning off bossblock is just wrong. WRONG. I tell you!
Now if you were to say 'WOW thanks for those AWESOME color overrides per option in bosses' I'd say 'No problem at all, that was planned all along'
