I comment on the excess of your daily releases and you bash me then lock the topic so I nor anyone can respond?? WTF? Grow up.
I also work in software development and its never a good idea to release "every 10 minutes" or even everyday, nor is it a standard practice. It only creates mayhem and problems for your user base. Some people end up getting the new version and others don't. For example, Player A updates using WoWmatrix at 2pm and begins playing. Then Player B (his teammate) updates using WoWmatrix at 4:30 pm and begins playing. Now they both have different versions. Then the problem is possibly worse than before. But the real point here is this: More and more people are using this WoWmatrix app (everyone I know uses it and I'm in a really big guild and our sister guilds use it too). You simply cannot control any level of versioning if you continue to progress as you are. And if you don't believe me, just ask around. Everyone is complaining. It's just ridiculous.
I can appreciate your attentiveness to QA but come on guys, be reasonable. Releasing once a week would be better and if you can't agree with that then once a day would be more manageable. At present if someone joins us late and their Omen isn't working, it causes all kinds of delays (and people get more angry at you).
Just my opinion but I suppose you are going to either lock this thread too or delete it.
You are just trying to complain for the sake of having a discussion, dont you?
First of all, you don't give hard facts. You just claim that your points are fact.
Second, as you may have noted in the other thread, a whole community disagrees with you.
And Third: For fucks sake, if you are sooo pissed off about it, you would start your shitty threads
in your own guild-forum, and let the people download an omen version from your own guildsite, which gets updated once a week.
And the whole "i'm a software developer"-thing. Guess what, me too. But you are just comparing apples and oranges. Omen (or any other mod here)
is no professional, supported software (in means, someone pays for it and expects 100% working software).
If you look at standard opensource software, most of it is released as beta, with people testing while the software may still change a lot.
If you don't like to use beta-software (remember: the mainsite says "BETA downloads") you are probably better off to pay someone for coding and supporting your software.
This is a developer site. Here addons get developed. There are several updaters that pull addons from files.wowace.com. They get the bleeding edge versions, often including bugs, sometimes even totally broken.
If you don't want to use the beta versions I recommend you to go to a release site like wowinterface or curse. Afaik they have their own updaters where you'll only get release quality.
No one bashed you.
You got relevant and respectful replies as to why this is happening now and when it will stop.
You were also offered the suggestion to put artificial constraints on your guild's update rate,
if it's such a big problem.
Example: Host a daily release on your guild forums and ask raiders to update from there,
or host a guild package on Curse so people can use their updater etc.
The thread was locked because as I pointed out you came late to this discussion re-hashing
an issue that has been discussed to extinction and rather heatedly.
The site admins probably didn't want a repeat round of the same, nothing new can be said on the matter.
Your post was polite an you got polite/useful answers in return.
This come back on the other hand is pure flame bait, and you _will_ get bashed by your own responsibility.
All I can say is that the files hosted here are 100% in the category of buyer beware. Am I doing something to fix it? Yes I am, absolutely. Is it what everyones expecting? No probably not.
And on a side note, I'd recommend using WAU instead of WowMatrix. WAU supports our bandwidth, while WM leeches off of it. If too many people switch to updaters that don't support the site, I'll end up having to limit access or even drop updater support all together :(
If you really do work in software development, then you know
a) It's a good thing to commit atomic code changes, and
b) Committing something to SVN does not mean it's ready for prime time.
Additionally, your thread was probably locked because there are several more mature, active Omen threads on this very forum, and no the front page no less, not because someone had a philosophical disagreement with you.

1. What updater for Mac "supports" the site? Most of the Mac users I know use jWowUpdater, and I'd use it on Windows too if WAU ever breaks (Sylv is quitting the game, so it's just a matter of time, no?). I think that if I were a Mac-compatible updater author (or even a Mac user for that matter), I would resent the comment that all updaters other than WAU are leechers when the only officially-blessed updater, WAU, is an incomplete solution (i.e., does not support Mac users).
2. It's a floor wax! No, it's a desert topping! This is the debate that's been rearing its head for a while now. The reality is that WowAce is both a release point and a developer site, because that's what both end-users and developers use it for. It's the best shine you've ever tasted.
Basically:
- end-users need to realize that downloading addons from WowAce means that stuff will be rough around the edges sometimes, and
- developers need to realize that (A) checking in broken drycoded changes will result in an angry mob showing up to your forum thread with torches and pitckforks and (B) some addons are only available on the SVN, steering end-users towards the practice of updating all their WowAce addons from the SVN.
It's just the way it works, folks, and the sooner each person comes to grips with both sides of it, the stronger the community will be.
Also, a significant number of developers have been putting only stable versions of their addons on the trunk, with unstable versions being developed on branches or in separate repositories such as GoogleCode (ArkInventory and AutoBar come to mind as a couple of examples), so it's worth noting that the WowAce community neither forces nor encourages developers to be "cowboy coders" that check in frequent broken drycoded changes. On the flip side, such behavior is not explicitly discouraged either :p
Yes mac support is shaky. I fully acknowledge that, and sadly I worry that it will not be fixed properly for some time to come. I'm not trying to insult mac users at all (I'm a mac user myself).
WoWMatrix upsets me though not because its a non supporting updater, but rather because its using ads of its own!
There are multiple good mac updaters out there however.
2) I'm well aware, and I'm doing my best to manage it so that people realize it is both. However, I don't provide a clear cut mechanism for releases on wowace, so I must there do my best to caution users. I'm sure you understand.

Wow, that's pretty slimy. I guess my instincts were correct when I came across their site a week ago and thought to myself "wow, that looks slimy." :)

I do, and personally I think that WowAce is a great community.
rofl - still stuck in that mindset that you're right and everyone else is mean to you when they try pointing you in the right direction, huh? :) No one here is trolling but you. If you can't accept the truth of how things work and how things will continue working, then by all means make the switch to KTM.

jWowUpdater works just fine on OSX 10.5. I prefer it to WowAceUpdater, to be honest, and if I ever move back to windows, I'll stick to jWowUpdater.
All I saw in the original post was "waah waah waah, you update too often, waah waah waah, you don't fix things fast enough, waah waah waah, you don't test enough, waah waah waah, you take too long to make a release"

Thanks to the author(s) of Omen/Threat for doing a great job and sharing it with everyone.

Approximately 6 days, 8 hours.
