I would like to be able to set up virtual groups - let's say I get into an AV with a couple friends. But we can't get the RL to move us into the same group. I'd like to be able to create a virtual group out of myself and my friends to make it easier to heal them. Like for example in Grid, would be neat if I could set the first row of the raid as myself and my friends. Or have an additional row for that.
NM I guess, you can drag out individual players in the standard UI. And that will be enough I guess. Was just hoping there might be a mod for Grid or something that could make a virtual group.
I was thinking of doing this for tanks awhile back. Basically have a fubar plugin or something that lets you setup a tank list then the module provides the layout to grid. We have a prot paladin, feral druid and fury warrior in our guild raids normally, if I remember correctly the GridLayoutsForHealers module's w/ tanks layouts are static based on class so pretty useless last time I checked
There's definitely potential in this idea and it could be done for custom groups and tanks however I certainly don't have time to look into it. I hope someone else does though
No that was the original post, everything above it was added later.
It's my standard sarcastic response whenever someone at work asks something like:
"hey have a look at this, it is possible"
"here's the spec for that project, what do you think"
etc
Having another addon where you could create lists of character names and categorize them (tank, healer, ranged dps, melee dps for example) and then have raid frames use those groups would be awesome. Especially for healers and tanks there is no way to create such a list automatically and you would need to manually create the lists. I always though something like that would be awesome!

Ideally, such an addon could maintain a database of such names, and simply sort them when those individuals are in the raid into whatever group is appropriate - have a 5th section for unsorted folks and let people sort those as needed.

That was my thought... the database would be local to your account of course (although being able to share/sync might be nice). Logically this could/should be built into ORA (since we're talking ACE here).

Anything is possible given enough time and money

if it doesn't use oRA2's playertargets that should work.

Hopefully someone can find an addon or create something (or a workaround to an existing, like pitbull).
