That's not actually Mapster's fault. Blizzard foolishly put the raid markers inside a dropdown menu, so *any* addon which uses or modifies a UIDropDownMenu taints those raid markers.
Perhaps, but it was possible before this patch or latest update, to use the raid markers out of combat while Mapster was active. That is now not possible; if it's possible to tweak the UI to still allow the raid markers to work, naturally that would be make the addon more useful.
I understand that Mapster is no longer supported; as is the case with any addon that has to be dropped by its author(s) due to RL issues, I'm not going to question this. I'll just wish the author well and say thank you for the use of Mapster while it was active.
That being said, is there anyone who knows of any other map addons that is still current? Times change, people leave the game, people take on increased work responsibilities, others step up to the plate and we must move on to them. If anyone has stepped up to develop a map addon, I'll need to take a look-see.
I noticed something with Mapster while watching my roommate run Heroic Stonecore: when he hit "m" Mapster opened, but not to the instance map, but to the Outland/Azeroth icons, and when clicking one or the other, it immediately went back to that choice. Same thing happened when using the pulldown menu to select a zone.
He says it happens occasionally other places, seemingly at random, and while I quit WoW in 4.1, I occasionally saw this behaviour, but a reloadui fixed it. I don't recall any rhyme or reason or pattern; it works fine for days, if not weeks on end, then suddenly it glitches.
Not much to go on, sorry, but that's why I'm posting here rather than creating a ticket.
*EDIT* Best I can recall it failed during instances, and not while running around the world.
Only thing I've seen/heard of is that **occasionally** the blue quest area blobs would not be visible on the map. Closing and re-opening the map makes them come back. But it's very rare and random, and fixes itself.
99.9% of the time, Mapster works 100% of the time.
Hmmm sounds like the issue I'm reporting is different, as it is not self-fixing, does not involve quest blobs, and gets Mapster stuck on the Outland/Azeroth selection when it should be showing an instance map. Still, it is very rare, if annoying when it happens, as the only fix is reloading the UI.
... I wonder if the Blizzard map does this as well, but the one in 1000 or greater chance means a very, very long wait to find out.
I do concur with Seerah: 99% of the time, Mapster works 100%.
I never said anything was WRONG with Mapster. It continues to work fine for me as well.
I went to the Mapster page on the main Curse.com website and there were posts that claimed, not that the addon was broken, but that it was, as Torhal put it, dead.
So I guess my coming here to find out about alternatives, in the end, was a good thing after all.
It showed that rumors of the addon's demise were unfounded and premature.
Thank you, everyone have a good day, discussion closed? I'll know to disregard any such posts on Curse.com when 4.3 comes out.
Hi,
quick question, is it really necessary for Mapster to set the map to the current zone when zoning? Could that perhaps be an option? I often find this feature to be more harm than help.
Even if there was, there wouldn't be much point to it. A multitude of other addons as well as Blizzards UI code will set the map to the current zone on zone changes.
Mapster even has "smart" code around this event, it will only do it when the map you're looking at right now is your last active zone, so when you look at Zone A, and fly from Zone A to Zone B, it would switch, but if you look at Zone C and fly from A->B, it would not switch. However, this smart code is rarely used because many other addons just reset the map.
I don't think the default UI does it, actually. Or maybe in some cases, but last night when I double checked that Mapster did it, I only had a few addons enabled, and unregistering the zone changed event on Mapster stopped the map from changing. I was hoping to track down any and all addons that does this and try to persuade them not to.

Alright, that is fair enough. My issue is mainly with the map changing when I'm looking at some distant zone while flying across the continent.
I receive the following errors when opening Mapster while in combat:

Those frames are not protected in the default UI. If those errors appear, it means that they are protected frames - which means some addon replaced them with protected frames, or made them otherwise protected.
I'm hunting down why InlineAura is causing similar issues with default actionbars. Hard to hard disable the Blizz raid frames to get rid of the one in the thread.

It's been that way since they were added in 4.03.

Same story every patch: If the AddOn hasn't been ToC-bumped, there are always users who think the sky is falling and the AddOn is dead.
