With the Release of the Ace3 Beta, we released Mapster to the public.
Description
Mapster is a very simple and effective Map replacement AddOn. It modifies the WorldMaps Display and adds new features and enhancements.
As of now, it basically replaces Cartographer_LookNFeel, Cartographer_Coords, Cartographer_GroupColors, and Cartographer_FogLight, and all that in 20kb of code (not including the Data needed for FogLight).
Features
- Changing the Style of the WorldMap (Alpha, Scale, Position)
- Display of Coordinates
- Enhancing the Group/Raid icons on the World Map and Battlefield Mini Map
- Removal of the 'Fog of War' on the World Map
All options can be disabled from the options menu which you can access from the Mapster Button on your World Map.
For your collecting and gathering needs, I recommend GatherMate and optionally Routes, to replace those parts in Cartographer too, they were designed to work hand-in-hand with Mapster, actually the same people had their hands in all of those projects.
For Comments, suggestions, requests, please post in this thread with all details i might need to fix or consider it.
Havent had a chance to check out the Release, but while using the one in Branches, I was unable to find the option / feature to move / remove the minimap button. If this has not been added to the release, would it be possible to add that feature? Personally I dont want the button at all, but if it "has" to be there I definitely need to be able to move it.
Thanks for giving us a new and more compact option to Cartographer.
I like Mapster combined with GatherMate, but I miss the ability to make notes on the map. Will there be a module or another mod that will add that functionality?

I was about to suggest the same, i really miss notes.
Now, you might say, "Why not stick with Cartographer when you need all this fancy stuff?"
but i think cartographer is just bloated and the ONLY thing Mapster misses is notes.
what do others think of that?
One thing I noticed, and it should be simple (I think), is to have the ability to have the settings saved per character or per account.
[Edit] And, though I may be asking for a bit too much, but an arrow system that works with Lightheaded, Tourguide, etc. (and maybe a Corpse one also) would be nice.
I love the waypoint functionality in Cartographer (the big fat arrow). Not sure if that is included in Mapster (have yet to log on and test it). If there are now way points I could always use TomTom, but TT also lacks the big fat arrow.

(edit: clarify)
I personally dont want the bloat of notes and hope they keep the feature creep from this addon. you want, another wants this and another wants that. Before you know it we got wicked bloat of another cartographer.
Very small request: scale up the player arrow. With tons of gathering notes on the map, or even with nothing on the map, it's often tough to find myself. The following lines are copied from Cartographer and get the job done, but it's slightly annoying to have to re-add them for every update:
It's the world map, non-fullscreen, with coordinates at the bottom, and your group members' dots class colored. That's about it. Not really anything to show in a screenshot.

No, there is no waypoint functionality in Mapster. Waypoints are not a core map functionality, and do not belong in a basic map mod. For gathering you can use GatherMate + Routes + TomTom; for other waypoint types you will have to wait until someone writes a standalone waypoint addon.

Again, notes are not a core map functionality, and should be a separate addon. Personally I'm okay with having only gathering notes with GatherMate, but I'm sure it won't be long before a general map notes addon crops up, if there isn't already one.

Cladhaire has said that he is planning on adding the big fat arrow to TomTom. :)

I agree with this. I think instead of adding it to the core mod, someone should look at making it a module or just a standalone that's compatible.
We (the Gathermate/Routes/Mapster team) are considering writing a MapNotes type of addon. However, don't put your hopes up yet. With 2.4 PTR coming out, we are busy making sure existing addons will work in 2.4, so it is likely that any work for new features will be put on hold.
I've been trying for a while mapster+routes+gathermate the entire combo replaces most of the features that i was looking for in a map mod/gathering addon but i miss the option to hide/set alpha to 0 of the UI parts of the map leaving something close to an alpha map

You can get Mapster either from
Files: http://files.wowace.com/Mapster
SVN: http://svn.wowace.com/wowace/trunk/Mapster/
or from WAU.

Testing it right now ^_^ .
[Edit] It's working, but I can't open the menu for configurations.
No these types of Modules will never be made by us.
Thanks for giving us a new and more compact option to Cartographer.
I would have thought it would be best suited in a separate mod.

Valid point :)
Hope to see a release soon then.
Also, the TomTom integration sounds great!
