@ Everyone: i will add the latest databases together to the main files tonite
@ OrionShock: I will try to make one single horde/alliance file tonite for those of you who find it useful.
@Panther: Quest data isnt the only thing that goes in the file. Everytime you share your database through wow, your database size will increase (few bytes per mapnote) I cant tell you the best way to merge databases, but i can tell you how 'I' do it.
@Everyone: To combine databases, i use two wow accounts with lvl1 mules on them. I load both up (one has the main file in the savedvariables location and the other has the database that i intend to 'merge') by simply letting them sit and idle in a group, they enchange notes. I put a macro on the pc to keep the characters from going AFK while the exchange takes place, and i go to bed. (thats why i merge at night)
The transfer process is deathly slow, thats why im excited for the new version...*wink*
Alliance Database - 4-17-07 2,087,223
Horde Database - 4-18-07 3,539,654
Combinded Database - 4-18-07 4,226,629
[/font] got caught off guard by early server shutdowns. The other databases will be put up when i get home from work today >.<
edit: Remember when looking at the database sizes, i have stripped all the useless data that the mod records (who contributed the data, and who the data was inturn, sent to.)
Example: I could have the same database as my brother, but since his mod sent it to three other players, his .lua could be 4mb and mine would still be 2mb.
In some cases, the databases that i've downloaded from here infact had LESS actual data than the base file that was provided on 3-20-07 but was many many kb larger than mine (prompting me to attempt a merge) Thanks to all of you for posting your databases, i will continue to attempt merges weekly until the import version comes out!
If you are attempting to create a merge application, i am hoping that it is in php or php/sql. If it is, please consider opening source immediatly for community support/acceptance. With the upcoming possibility of a database format change, it may be in your best interest.
If you are the person that is paying someone to do this program for you so you can call it your own....please reconsider, again, as the database format may be changing.
how can you be almost finished but not have tested it? ..unless someone else is making it for you? Let me know. :-)
nothing... even got some new quests to try it out (got new quests on a 38 char, badlands quests).
Doesnt show quests for my lvl 65 in outlands although I havent tried getting new quests to see if it would work.
Idd the combined database seems to be bugged somehow.
This addon may be one of the most useful since SCT. It works wonders for a Horde alt that i have. The only problem Is the lack of data for the alliance. Compared to the horde theres next to nothing so Is there anyone that could dump a detailed alliance DB?
The shared database is extremely helpful to provide a starting point with a lot of quest completion locations. Is there any string here where people are sharing their Cartographer: Quests databases of quest-giver locations?
Thx for the answer.
I'm using Cartographer just for a short time, that's why my db is really little at the time :(
Would be great if someone could share the database, who is using cartographer longer.
The next version (which will come eventually I swear!) will have some merging features. Although it still can't cross languages (and never will be able to), the idea is to make a webpage that will automatically merge submitted databases - then you'll be able to download any language version you want, and it will be based on what people have submitted. This idea is probably quite a ways off from implementation.
