If you're blocked from chatting on /g then API_SendAddonMessage is also blocked. The blocking of /g is one thing ... and I accept that. Blocking API_SendAddonMessage as well seems a bit silly though as blocking functionality of an addon. It's just happenstance that they use the same method of communicating.

If you're still technically two guilds, wouldn't using the guild channel still have problems in that you only receive half the info you need?
True. But as it seems unlikely that we'll see a fully flexible solution (as there are significant technical issues involved), then I guess a compromise solution has to be considered. And really it's no more than the same restriction we face with every other addon. Our shared chat channel is an artificial construct to get around a problem that Blizzard haven't rectified.
Which leads me to the IDEAL solution, which would be for Blizzard to fix the 500 person limitation on guilds. It's an annoying bug ... but after more than 2 years and only one serious attempt at a fix, it's still not working. I don't have a lot of hope for this solution.
Another solution would be for Blizzard to add a CUSTOM channel in addition to GUILD, RAID, PARTY, etc to API_SendAddonMessage, and adding Channelname as a parameter. I can't see that happening anytime soon, but it's worth suggesting.
Then there is removing permission restrictions from API_SendAddonMessage. It's a logical request. It solves the problem of developers not having to add extra code if guild comms has been restricted. It may even be easy to implement.
I'm all for suggesting positive change. I see this as a positive change. Hopefully Blizzard will see it that way.
Well I got as nibble from "Blue" on the official forums. Apparently they are "looking into it". As a few people have chimed in asking to fix the 500 limit on guilds, I'm not sure if that means addressing the request or fixing guilds once and for all.
And I realise it's a fairly wishy-washy ambigious response ... but at least it a response. :)
Who do I have to bribe to get Guild Positions with minimap support (hopefully rotating map compatible)? lol
We are hungry for rotating minimap dots. GuildMap has minimap, but still has not implemented rotating minimap support.
I would really love to see someone get this one nailed down.
