It really conflicts with a bunch of mods - many Fubar mods fail to load at all.
yeah... mail, money,xp,tradeskill fubar plugin fail to load or show errors...
also onebag doesn't load...
For now I am using the 16308 release from the SVN and all is well for me. But if you look at that release the LIBS directory is empty. If only works for me because I use a common library located in the same SVN that is called !!!Libs. Latest version of that and 16308 version of Cartographer seem to do the trick for me.
I've been looking for a low-memory replacement of the memory hungry alphamap (and even more hungry with the "fan updates") and an alternative to the over bloated metamap, for over 1 year now with no avail. And omg just as i was losing hope, cartographer hits the scene! thank you ckknight! it rules;)
What I like in AM (hence the reason I "hate" MM) is that it's *not* the worldmap scaled... AM handles his own map, without borders, solid map, and stuff like that.
And no, I haven't tried Cartographer yet (I already have way to many addons ^^).
Cartographer uses the standard WorldMap. AlphaMap making its own frames and everything makes it much less efficient.
I am planning on adding the cool stuff that people mentioned in this thread, e.g. hiding everything but the map overlay (so just the actual map shows up and such). I'm still grappling with the best way to support instances.
I will not support the original MapNotes icons. I hate those things. What's the difference between a small red circle, a small yellow circle, and a small blue circle? I mean, come on. Instead, I'll support the raid icons and possibly others if they come up. I want the icons to look different and have possible meaning to them.

I do not mind the icons. I think it would be a neat idea to allow people to release "icon packs". There are a lot of artistic people out there that I am sure could create some interesting, meaningful icons.
I'm just trying Cartographer out, and I'm really really liking it.
It seems a great improvement and replacement to both AM and the worldmap. One small thing is that it'd be nice to be able to change the transparency on the fly without having to go through the menus everytime. The version of Alphamap I've been using until now(an older one) has a useful slider in the corner of the map for changing the transparency, would it be possible to add something like that?
Even without that, it's a really good looking improvement that I'll be using.

/shrug - I tried it and hate the look of dozens of raid icons on my map ... and usually like the original MapNotes Icons, especially after getting used to them for over 1 year.
Do you mean we will have an icon for questgivers, an other for example interesting places and so on? :D Very exciting idea.
Cartographer uses the raid icons, which certainly can be used this way. The Skull for raid locations, the X for ... treasure! The crescent moon for ... erm ... all night eateries and werewolves.
While the usage of AceComm sounds promising, there are issues with using AceComm-2.0 in TBC (yes the Branch version). While there are no errors with AceComm-2.0, if you try and use a macro in combat, the macro will not work.
When asking a guard where an NPC is, have the option to set as a Map Note.
As well as if not an or... when standing at an NPC be able to add them to map note at your location. Some npcs would be nice to add for more permanant resources. i.e. reagent vendor or some such.

16308 works, no addon/fubar errors, empty libs folder.
16310 doesn't work, even if you delete the contents of the Libs folder.

Great mod - please keep it up.

"Vanilla WoWers" are players who are playing on live servers instead of BC beta ;)

Etc.
Something in AceComm-2.0 is tainted. Miles posted a bug two weeks ago here:

In the meantime, I reverted back to v16386, which is working great in TBC.
Thanks for the great mod

Looks and runs great. Thanks.
Here's a post about it: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=46544985&sid=1
Bump it for great justice.
