The waypoint feature is a feature that would switch me back from metamap. It is movable and can be scaled. Its very useful in new zones. :P Not everyone has a great "sense" of direction in games. (Plus its easier to watch where your going and who you might run into, rather than staring at the minimap the whole time.) It's a very nice crutch indeed.
One thing that would be amazing if way points were added would to be able to set it to a party member (or guild member, if that module is enabled) I'm often following around my party members, and have to keep bring up the map to do it, which can get tedious and frustrating.
Really, really liking the way point thing (I had never seen/used a feature like this before).
Would it be possible to add a temporary waypoint via a single click/option?
Here's how I see it being useful:
While doing a quest, the user goes & looks up the goal in question on a quest spoiler site & gets the loc. Now, they'd like to get to that loc, so a waypoint for that location would be created, and then deleted when they got there (or deleted manually).
Currently, the user would CTRL+right-click on said loc and make a note. They then set that note as the waypoint, and off they go. When they get there, they clear the waypoint and delete the note.
Would it be possible to maybe add a temporary way-point to the CTRL+right-click menu, or a hotkey combination to actually create the temporary waypoint (by temporary, I believe it's fine for the user to right-click and clear it once they're done with it, or, when they reach the waypoint; either way works).
I guess my point is that creating the temporary note just to use it to get to some location seems like an unnecessary extra step. /shrug :)
I've looked into the forums a bit, and couldn't find what I was looking for, this is perhaps the closest topic.
I'm interested in a waypoints cartographer mod that also adds a directional arrow I can display on the minimap. In a simplified example, If I'm in the deep South East portion of a doughnut shaped map, and need to get to the NW portion, I'd like to be able to drop a couple waypoints, and then close the map, and start running, using the directional arrow to help me navigate around the center gap (Via each waypoint), then finally to the endpoint. I'm not talking about any mods doing the running.. More like a basic "trip" in a gps.
I use the WAU daily, so I wasn't aware that waypoints was in, I will try them out, but what about the directional arrow part? Is that also part of cartographer? Is it a different Cartographer mod?
As far as I know its just part of Cartographer and not a module.
I should point out that currently the only way to set a waypoint is to right click a note. The fellow two posts above is requesting that be changed, and I agree that it would be nice to make a way point for anywhere on the map without having to make a note first.
Hmm...and what about waypoints to people? say, guildmates, who's dots you can now see. And they waypoint arrow would point to them no matter where they are...omy, that may be a bit too fantastical.
