I just switched to BT4 since Macaroon seems to have broken with 5.0.4.
How can I get it to pass the button values from one toon to another? I tried both selecting and copying the profile, but I don't get the buttons. I have several hunters and I want to set them up once.
I'm in the same boat. Welcome, and grab a paddle. :p
Anyway, BT4 uses the Blizzard Action IDs, so you just need to use Action Bar Saver or something similar that saves the contents of each Action ID slot from one character (or one spec, or whatever) and loads it on another.
On the plus side, this means that if you ever have to play without addons for some reason, at least your action bars will be somewhat familiar...

It is painful to set things up again, but I was going to have to do it anyway. I want to create a default layout for all my toons and then customize it for each type of class.
What point is the profile section of BT4 then?
I have installed Action Bar Saver and will load it when I reload. Thanks!
Bartenders profiles save the position and configuration of the bars, not their contents.
Like Phanx said, the content of the bars is controlled by Blizzard, because Bartender uses Blizzards action ids, like most action bar addons (just not Macaroon)
I'm actually working on creating a addon for bartender which will add "advanced" buttons, which are not tied to the action ids, but instead save their contents in the profiles, but it'll be a while before this is ready.
With the Darkmoon Faire, there have been some issues with the patch itself but I am also seeing issues with my action bars.
I always keep bar 1 reserved for the vehicle buttons. I never assign any functions to them and I disable the Blizzard Vehicle ui in my settings. Normally, this is fine. The vehicle buttons show up on their assigned numbers under bar 1, whether it's for 'Aces High' or for the faire games. I never had a problem.
After Sunday, at the Faire for all the various games you have to do, the Blizzard ui shows up, even if 'disable' is checked. Bar 1 doesn't seem to have the same default function any longer as in some cases, I can use the number 1 key to click - the 1 (for instance) shows up on the vehicle icon. But in other cases, it looks like the icon is not assigned any default and I have to mouse click it. In some cases, clicking 1 key works but other times, not. It seems random.
I understand that this may not be part of the Bartender lua code but if someone could give me some pointers to where I might find some possible solutions, I would appreciate it. I would prefer to have my action bars controlled by Bartender, even the vehicle one.
Thanks in advance.
I had exactly the same problem and it got answered (albeit sadly) two posts above yours.
I noticed a bug when using the Blizzard vehicle UI but I'm not sure if it's a Bartender bug or Blizzard bug, so I'm asking here first.
Although I've enabled the "action on key down" option both in the Bartender option menu and in the Blizzard interface options, the buttons on the vehicle UI are not executing on key down.
The Bartender option wouldn't have any effect on it.
Its possible that its registered for KeyUp instead of KeyDown, i can look into it, i would've thought the Blizzard option would do it, though.

O.k., I read the posts and I apologize up front for being dense. I had 3 issues in my post. I'm not sure if I saw answers for all 3. I'm recapping what I think I read in the responses. If I misunderstood, please correct me :)
- A Bartender action bar replacement for the vehicle UI is a thing of the past. "Disable Vehicle UI" is not an option.
- Downloading Bartender 4.5.3 will fix the problem of the numbers (1-0) assigned to the Blizzard UI not being associated with the UI.
- I will be able to use the keyboard and don't have to mouseclick. This was a seemingly random occurrence on the Blizzard UI.
Disabling the Vehicle UI is an option, thats why there is an option for it. :p
There seems however to be a bug so that it doesn't work properly with some quests like from the Darkmoon.
I still don't recommend disabling it to avoid any potential problems, but i do plan to keep offering the option.

Use BT4 profiles to save your bar layout, size, position, and other settings -- everything but the button contents -- and load them on other characters.
Use ABS or similar to save the button contents and load them on other characters.

I used Action Bar Saver and it seems to save things off, but seems to not restore anything. Some of this could be because I am restoring features the current toon does not have.
Overall things work passably well. I am too much of an altoholic and upgrading everything is not something I look forward to. (I have too many toons and classes covered.)

It's not automatic. You have to use the slash commands; "/abs save MyHunterSetup" on the character where everything is set up, and then "/abs restore MyHunterSetup" on the character you want to copy it to. If a character doesn't have an ability, that ability won't load; that's just how the WoW Action ID system works. If you wanted to force it, you could make a macro (eg. "/cast Some Ability") and then the macro will get loaded even if the character you're loading it into doesn't know Some Ability.
ABS also has some kind of fallback feature (eg. if Some Ability isn't available, fall back to Other Ability) but I don't know the commands offhand; type "/abs" to get a list of them.
I've actually been surprised at how well the transition to BT4 has gone. There are a couple of things from Macaroon that I miss (being able to have my actual bar switch to vehicle abilities instead of having the huge ugly Blizzard vehicle art bar appear, the spell/macro direct binding plugin, and the ability to edit macros directly on the buttons) but overall I don't find myself missing Macaroon as much as I thought I would.
...being able to have my actual bar switch to vehicle abilities instead of having the huge ugly Blizzard vehicle art bar appear, the spell/macro direct binding plugin, ...
I've never had that problemnot even after the patch. For the direct binding, I was using the LibKeyBound-1.0 and LibKeyBoundExtra-1.0 combo (embedded into my UI as /kb), but the latter no longer works. I haven't looked into what it will take to fix it yet.

If you mean the vehicle UI, Nev already stated (recently) that Bartender does not, and is not meant to, replace it. It will use the bindings from your first action bar, but you still have to look at the huge ugly Blizzard art UI and extra junk (micro menu, vehicle health bar "flask", etc.) while you're in a vehicle. It would be slightly less annoying if Blizzard hadn't designed the art for a 640x480 screen.

You can do this.
Turn off the "Use Blizzard Vehicle UI" option (in the "Bars" option section), and ensure your "Bar 1" (or whatever you want to use) has the "Possess Bar" option in the stance/paging config checked.
There currently is however a bug that causes this option to not work on some vehicle UIs, most notably the Darkmoon Faire games, but i'll look into it.
Like mentioned on the previous page, turning off the Vehicle UI is not a recommended option, but if you want to, the option is there, and i plan on keeping it.
Before and after patch 5.x --- bar 7 doesn't stay visable or active - Its my only bar that I have to go in and disable/enable for it to show -- it's set to be visable and never hide. help!!
All bars are created equal (except maybe bar 1 to some degree), there is nothing that deals with any bar specifically that would cause one bar to hide.

Will that also work with custom state definitions using the [possessbar] condition?
I have the "Use Blizzard Vehicle UI" option unchecked, and the "Vehicle Bar" bar turned off (because all it showed was the "Exit Vehicle" button), and I did not add a [possessbar] condition to my custom states, but while doing the quests in Uldum where you control lions and soldiers and things, the Blizzard vehicle UI still appeared, including the art, micro menu, and bag buttons. I still have at least one "control stuff in Uldum" quest left on that alt; I'll try to report back with the actual state it triggers if it isn't [possessbar].

If the vehicle UI is shown or not is independent of any custom state settings you do. However, if you do not include the required possess/vehicle state settings, you won't get access to the actions required to control it.
Right now you need them in the custom states, but because in 5.0 the required conditions to cover all vehicles have become increasingly complex, i've been thinking of separating the "Possess Bar" option from the custom states option, and applying it on top of the custom configuration, to make it easier for people to get a proper possess bar configured, so in the future you will no longer need to add it to the custom states, instead just tick "Possess Bar" on whatever bar you want to hold the vehicle actions (right now that option is disabled with custom states).
For still showing the UI on some quests, like i said, there seems to be a bug in the hiding code, but i've not been able to reproduce it yet. If you happen to find a daily quest with the problem, let me know. Sadly all my chars have either completed Uldum or are way too low to even think about it.
PS:
Don't try to jump a Sandbox Tiger without the Vehicle Bar, you'll be missing any way to get off it again. :D

Oh I'd forgotten all about LibKeyBoundExtra. I remember recommending that to people years ago. I'll look into it. Thanks for the tip.

You may have screwed up your profile.
--- I've just switched from 7 to bar 5, and it stays displayed through relogs and full client restarts!
thanks for a cool addon, and your time!

Wouldn't it make more sense to rename it to "Leave Vehicle Bar" or "Leave Vehicle Button"?
