I can't promise that it'll be more modular, but I hope that it'll still work :D
Hehe that's the main thing :)
On the other hand, there's a shadow priest in my guild that's always moaning that there should be a "damage + healing" chart, just so he can be at the top of it. It would be nice to be able to add other charts without having to touch the original files.
It's unlikely that recount will ever go that far, but can't say yet if there will be a way to set up new modes without coding.
Ah, I wasn't clear enough - I was talking about adding new modes through additional addons, which would involve coding. Then people could extend Recount with new modes without affecting the core of the addon. Admittedly they'd be rather small addons. :P
I can't reproduce it but I don't have many opportunities to sync in raid currently. My wild guess is that it is the sync code in which case this simply won't get fixed for now because I'm not touching the sync code until after the 2.4 transition is done.
But to go back to why totems are currently a problem. Say you have 2 shamans in raid and both drop searing. While the totems say "<shaman 1's creation>" and "<shaman 2's creation>" this information is not passed along in the combat log. The combat log only sends:
Searing totem hits X for 200 damage.
Which one was it?
Well there really isn't any way to find out. Hence why no damage meter can currently attribute this damage to owner.
I'm one of those Shammies who would love to see totem damage rolled up into mine. One thing I noticed was that Scrolling Combat Text gleefully scrolls my totem damage up on the screen. After reading this comment, I grabbed another shaman (who had way more spell damage than me and so would have noticably different searing totem damage) and we conducted a little test. We partied up, dropped our searing totems, and frostshocked a mob (to keep it off the totems).
What we found was that we each only saw our own totems damage in our combat log. So the answer to the question above, "Which one was it?", is yours and yours only.
Sitting here now, I'd be interested to see if a non-shaman would have seen either of our totem damages reported ... I didn't think about that. BUT - it seems like you could simply allow collection of totem damage to only happen for users who are shamans and then they could sync that out to everyone. After all, its the shammies who care about it the most. Its really less about searing totem and more about shammies wanting to know how much their AoE totems are contributing.
PS - thank you *so* much for starting development back up again on recount :)
@Stencil: Thanks for the observations, I'll check how totems behave under the 2.4 combat log when I get my shaman transfered.
@all on ptr: There is a working version of Recount for 2.4 ptr on the svn in a branch. It's http://svn.wowace.com/wowace/branches/Recount/2.4/. People who can use SVN clients and want to try it can check it out from that path on the wowace Svn. Others can try it too via the above link but you'll also need to get all dependent libraries (ace2, babble, trheat, etc see embed.xml for details).
There is still work to do to utilize the new aspects of the combat log but this should operate like the current live version in all respects.
I really like the Death Details feature as a healer for finding how a tank died. Sometimes Recount has very little saved in the Death Details, maybe just one second of data or so. I think this may be because Recount has a maximum number of combat messages it saves total. for paladin tanks, the outgoing damage has tons of lines due to consecrating many mobs. This results in having Recount only display a few lines for incoming damage, which I care more about.
Could you add settings to control the limits on the death details. Maybe record the last X seconds instead of just a certain number of lines.
Hmm, not quite sure but there seems to be a problem with graphing the stats. I can see only my own line, all other players (selected) but their lines don't show up.
Do I have to switch on a certain source for collection to get the graphs working correct?
In addition one of my guildmates had an imho good idea for the recent fights. Could it be possible only to save the bossfights? Nobody really cares about the stats of trashfights (at least in our guild ^^)
