I haven't had the tab issue, but I notice the lack of a right-click context menu, but oddly, not all the time. I'm almost certain this isn't a default UI issue, because it wasn't occuring with prat.
EDIT-Huh, the context menu worked until I changed the chat pane background (via the UI tab).
EDIT2- Aha! I have context menus on every name EXCEPT those at the beginning of a line...
I'm using the Channel Names module. It's working perfectly except for "raid warning". I've tried to set this to "rw", and the textbox retains this value between reloads, but the setting has no effect. I still see "[Raid Warning]" in my chat window.
I've got raid warnings diverted to a secondary chat frame, in case this is part of the problem.
PS. A way to make "say" and "yell" look just like the other channel substitutions would be nice too. I'd love to set these to "s" and "y", personally.
Not sure if this has been asked before but would it be possible to make the default color of player names in playernames module the same color as the entire text line if no color has been supplied for the name, opposed to the ugly gray, it kinda makes my eyes bleed :)
Also maybe an idea would be to add an option to hide all the channel spam like X joined/leaves channel, moderation privileges given to X, etc.
Thanks for the tip. A quick googling has proved that disappearing tabs are an issue caused by the Blizzard UI. Discussion
I double-checked with absolutely no add-ons turned on. It still happens in the bare-bones game. The only way around it is to log in, then turn on "Lock Chat Settings". Make sure your tabs are where you want them beforehand. After you lock it, don't reload the UI. When the UI is loaded with that option on, the tabs will hide and won't be able to be moved or selected. I guess just unlock them, reload UI, then relock them every time you log on, at least until they fix this/if the fix this.
I mainly use Prat, but I like the way Chatter does the chat tabs (removing the border and background from them). Only they disappear when you are not mousing over the frame. Prat makes the tab buttons stay all the time. So, running both Prat and Chatter with both addons chat tab modules running I was able to get them to look like Chatter and stay all the time like Prat.
So, making the chat buttons stay is possible. Mainly posting this cause I figure people wanted to know how to do it and so maybe it could be built into Chatter.
The colouring of names by class doesn't work well, pls fix this :(
I have figured out that the colors aren't set if you just do /who (even on yourself), but when i mouseover myself or someone else, the color is set for the name.
Going to request again a feature I asked some time ago.
This is a great addon, but I'd like to request a small tweak.
Right now, the highlight feature works great most of the time. But sometimes it can be an issue. One of my chars is named Assis, so everytime someone says "assist", "assistant" or anything that has "assis" in it, I got a highlight. So, is it possible to add an option to just highlight exact matches?

Gotta sign this, one of my highlights is "matt" and i get spammed every time somebody says "that doesn't matter" :(
Love the addon though, tried prat and switched back after 15minutes.
I have this problem that when i rightclick a name and try to set main it doesn't save that name, don't know what to do about it, if it is a bug or just me that hasn't set it up right.
I have the problem the Chatter forgott the name's of player's witch are in my guild or group or where I have produced a who request. Any the same problem?
I just want to bump a bug I've had for a few weeks now and that forced me to turn off chatter. I have a window with 5 tabs, the default "General, Combat Log and 3 other specialty tabs. Whenever I switch away from the General tab I CANNOT SWITCH BACK. I can switch fine between any of the other 4 tabs but can never switch back to the general tab. This happens even with ONLY Chatter running. Has anyone else seen this issue?

I was running the latest version on WowInterface. Downloading the latest version from curse solved the problem. It would be great if the WowI version could be kept up to date (their updater is very basic but at least it works :-)
Hmmm...this thread is maybe dead ^^ or the development is stoped. The latest release (r211) of chatter has the same problem of the last version (r206). It want not save any player name.
Is there any way for a SINGLE background image to be used instead of having it repeat? Like it does in Omen? I can't find any way to keep my background image to stop from tiling.
I wish there was an option to only Highlight words and emphasize self in Player Names when it was a separate word and not part of a word. As of now, I get my relative short name emphasized inside all kinds of different words.

So why don't you set " buio " as highlight? If this is your ingame name...

It doesn't work for the emphasize self in Player Names though.
