Someone support this mod please, the original author has allowed this mod to die.
Aloft works fine for me, no problems with 2.4 so far. Also Roartindon mentioned he was working on 2.4 compatible version of Assessment so he might just be busy with other stuff atm.

What is assessment supposed to do that's so good? Maybe I'll get it too when it's done...
It's not that I blame the author for leaving this mod to die. I just wish someone else would come in and fix that bug, maybe. It doesn't have to be the author that fixes it.
I took a stab at fixing it myself of course (I've fixed teeny tiny bugs on other addons in the past) but it's beyond my limited understanding of LUA. -.-
'Attempt to perform arithmetic on a nil'. So I tried a simple little bug fix "If this value is nil, then set it to zero." It completely wiped my entire saved variables file and reset to default. -.- So I'm hoping someone else who understands better can get it taken care of...
When it comes to matrixes and 'fields' and whatnot, I don't know the terminology of the language. -.- I probably set the entire matrix to zero instead of just that value. Can anyone help me out here?

It doesn't show everything as graphical/detailed as f.e. Recap. But it excels in showing exactly what I want to see and doing that fast. And the best navigation ever in a stat mod. Leftclick to go in a level deeper, rightclick goes back, mousewheel to scroll up/down fast, rightclick the header bar to report and do other stuff. And if you really want more advanced stuff you can design your own views and add them to the navigation.
It monitors what goes on in combat, and provides ways to see reports of what it sees. Everything. Heals, damage, overall or per second, threat, deaths, everything.
I know you're busy with Assessment and other things, and I don't know if you even read this, but would you mind if I committed changes to Aloft to upgrade it from the ancient 1.0 SharedMediaLib to the new LibSharedMedia-3.0?

Other than it being partially broken by the patch and not yet updated, like many many other addons that are developed in their authors' spare time, I don't see how Aloft is in any way dead. I use it every day, and have never had any issues. I've never seen the error you posted; have you tried deleting the addon and its saved variables and reinstalling?

But what does it do? It's described as a 'Combat monitor addon'. That's not very specific.
Assessment, DamageMeters, Recap, Recount, SW_Stats, and Violation are "combat monitor addons". That should clue you in. ;)
Yes, I have tried that. You probably don't see that error because you don't use that tag. Put this in your 'advanced' section for 'Name Text': [Name:HealthBarColor]
The error doesn't always show up instantly, but especially when a large number of healthbars show up on screen in a short span of time (like when you log in or go running through a crowded city) it tends to mess up.
The resulting symptom is that instead of being the same color as the healthbar (which has no problems), the color is then random.
I use the tag in both Level text and Name text, and sometimes only one will break, sometimes both. When both break, the 'random color' used by both is the same. It seems to be (loosely) based on the color of the last healthbar to come on screen, not the current healthbar. Like if an NPC is green, then a Druid comes on, the Druid's name is in green, and then a warlock walks by, and the warlock's name is in orange. *shrug* I can get a screenshot if you like.
The only other thing I can think of that causes it is that I've changed the default color for a friendly player. If the class of the player is not known, the color is black. This is to distinguish unknown friendly players from shamans.
Aloft was working fine yesterday, this morning I updated again and as soon as I logged in I got 50 errors. Some of them are:

You're missing libraries that Aloft needs; specifically SharedMediaLib and TagCompiler-1.0. If you use standalone libraries, you deleted them somehow; reinstall them and your errors will go away. If you use embedded libraries, then someone probably screwed up Aloft's svn-externals property; for now just install the missing libraries as standalone and your errors will go away.
There has been some changes to Aloft externals recently, so its probably problem there. I have standalone libs so I guess thats why it still worked for me.
A request.... I'd add it myself, but don't want to deal with having to merge changes constantly without wiping out my updates (plus I don't know that I'd be able to do it will anyway....
Right now combo points on your targets nameplate is great... could it go 1 step further and include an energy meter (your own, just on your current target's nameplate), maybe even with a tick spark? That is really what I'm looking for, I keep trying to find a mod that would get me this in a way that wasn't always in the way, then I realized... having it in the aloft nameplate would be PERFECT!
Is the above-average memory footprint of Aloft common or is it just me? It doesn't overly bother me, but outside of Auctioneer doing a scan it's #1 at ~6mb. Are there tags or changes that I can make to attempt and reduce/optimize the footprint?

Disable data collection, clear Aloft's savedvariables, and you'll see a nice reduction.
As Saryai said, if you have the option on to save data it will grow very big with time. If its turned off you will have to "discover" all data (like enemy class color etc) every time you log in.
I notice this in PvP / Arena (and I believe it's intentionally exploited by players that name their pet with the same name as their character, or their team's healer): If a pet has the same name as a player, the pet's name plate is colored by the player's class.
The result can be confusing, especially in a crowd, as there will be two green (for Hunter) "Joehunter" nameplates to pick from.
Are there some settings I should change to eliminate this, or is it a known bug, or maybe there's nothing Aloft can do about it due to game limitations?
Thanks!

Also, does anyone know if 2.4 now allows you to set the distance that nameplates show up, farther?

Yes and please let him finish assessment first :)
