Really dig the effect of this Mod. I do have a few questions which may turn into requests depending on the answer.
1. Id prefer to have the bar off for NPC that are non agressive. But I still want to be able to see the traditional blizzard header info for the NPC in question, so I am able to see their name's as well as their duty (inkeeper, bread vendor, etc.)
When I disable the bar via the optioins the NPC header shows for a second then disappears, and on occasion it will show back up but only for a brief few seconds.
Is there some option I need to change to make this permanently appear? or is this presently bugged?
2. I also prefer to have the bar off for my pet. It disappears when I turn it off, but when I enter combat, it reappears, and often does not re-disappear after combat is over. Is there a setting I am missing to have this always off? The pet bar gets in the way at times when I am trying to change target.
3. Guild Tag. I have it set to be above the characters name. Many times the guild name does not display unless I select the character or mouse over the character (I have the guildname display in TinyTip). So it acts as if it will not populate the information unless its been called. Yet without Aloft, individuals guild name will show with the standard Blizzard interface. Is this just how it is due to Blizzards way of passing information, or is there a way to have it pull up automatically?
As usual, much appreciate your time and effort on this mod.
this mod is simply wonderful. ive wanted somethign like this for so long but have heard it was impossible. leave it to you guys to figure it out ;)
dunno why there's all the database features added in though, seems not to "fit" in a nameplates mod. would it make sense to move all those other features like hp and creature type player type etc to another mod?
just a thought :) if it doesnt make sense to move that stuff to another mod, im still happy if i can completely disable all of it. just using it for nameplates level name & hp%.

It seems to work correctly here. Do you have Interface Options -> NPC Names enabled?
Alternatively, you can show tags such as "Innkeeper" by enabling Aloft's Comment module.

Yes it is enabled. but they show for a brief moment and disappear.
Ya, I know I can enable it on the Aloft mod, but the bars show through the walls, the bars cover up quest icons over the NPC's as well, so I prefer to use aloft for enemy's only.
On your other two responses... I apologize for not looking at the first few posts, I read the first one and downloaded this bad boy...
again, love the mod, appreciate your hard work.
EDIT:
ok, a little info to add:
as I approach units that I have bars turned off for, I can see the Blizzard name tag... just as I get into the range where Aloft would draw the bars for the units, the Blizzard Tag disappears. If I back away, the blizzard tag will re appear.
ahh, If I deslect show friendly nameplates all works fine. But if I have it enabled, and have most things turned off (I basically only had group or guild showing).
So in essence the show friendlies makes a global tag which disables the Blizzard Tags.

Check the 3rd post on the first page of this thread. If you don't enable the features, the data isn't gathered/stored.......
Thanks Roartindon - hope this isn't too much hassle in the future and can stay in.
Ditto! Using Aloft has turned my UI inside out, I'm using the plates now and blowing away a lot of the old clutter. The more I can narrow the range of shown plates, the happier I am.
Not totally nessecary, but a limit on min lvl you cache would be nice. Like I would only like to cache lvl70 players, and maybe 68+ mobs.
At this stage, I don't plan on complicating the data store options too much. My entire Prat database of character classes and levels gathered over many months on my server is under half a megabyte. I'll monitor how big my Aloft database grows over time to see whether this becomes significant enough to justify adding extra logic.
Part of the simplicity of the system at the moment also allows it to gather data in cases it otherwise wouldn't be able to if it required level data or other criteria. In particular, inside battlegrounds, Aloft queries the battleground scoreboard to determine the classes of players who are in there - but there's no way of finding out what level these players are until you mouse over them, or target them.
The only problem I have with this addon so far is that it's so good that I'm now committed to spending even longer setting up my UI, figuring out exactly which configuration of nameplates I like best.
While I appreciate the intent to provide useful, well written tools that do exactly what we've always wanted, I kindly ask addon authors to henceforth stop doing so, as I need to level up my priest. Thank you.

My girlfriend and I are leveling a paladin and druid together... we are the same level, and have done the same quests to get there...
But my Paladin has over three more days played... This is the time I have spent on my UI on him (and I mostly use my 70 for UI editing)
I would agree with you Fin, if not for the fact that I had fun those 3 days, and couldn't have leveled with my Paladin anyway as I need to wait for my GF

I have found the preset profiles extremely handy! No fuss, no muss...
There is one thing left which stops me from using Aloft full-time:
While I'm loving the option to disable mouse interaction with the nameplates (I can't get used to mousing on the nameplates - I constantly select wrong targets), the plates still seem to block mouse input entirely.
What I'd like it to do, and I've seen other addons (NECB being one) doing similar, is to allow the mouse to interact through the plate. So if I right-click and drag on a frame, my camera will turn as if I'd right-clicked anywhere else. If I click on a nameplate, when there's a unit standing behind it, I'll target the unit behind the nameplate rather than the one who the nameplate belongs to (or not target anything at all, with the current disabled mouse setting).

Any chance of that making it in? :)
If I can figure out how, I'll do it. The difficulty is that nameplate frames don't follow the same rules of many other frames in the game.
Added new CombatText module to the distribution, but it's not present in the .toc until I get more testing done on it.
The issue I had originally was that WoW was hard crashing with this CombatText enabled (no bugsack or any other error.. just the blizzard error reporter popping up). It hasn't happened to me recently, but I'm going to wait for a few days of testing before I'm sufficiently confident about the code to make it more easily accessible.
Interestingly, I couldn't get the crash to occur on the Mac OSX version of WoW; only on Windows.
If players are willing to try it out, add the line Modules\CombatText.lua into the Aloft.toc file, enable it, and report back here on if you have any problems (or if it works fine!)
Interesting note on using guild names.
I must of ran across someone on my server named Warg, because every Warg in Silverpine had a guild name over them.
May be something to look at to delimit guild name if unit in question is NPC.
Still loving this mod, thanks for all your hard work.

Unfortunately, I don't get given any distinction between hostile NPCs and hostile players.
Before applying guild names, I do check that they are either a friendly player (originally a blue healthbar) or a hostile unit (originally a red health bar) - because that's unfortunately the broad category that opposite faction players are grouped in.
I'm guessing that this might be a case where being able to remove specific entries easily from the database may be appropriate. I'll look into adding it this later.
