Thought I'd give my 2 copper since I've been using AutoBar for an extremely long time now.
I was very happy Autobar went to Ace, but I got to say, this new config menu really bugs me, in terms of adding buttons/categories and ordering. I'll keep this short and sweet, and just say that I'll REALLY miss the drag and drop functionality of the config. Got a new quest item? I just drug it onto the autobar, and the next character that needed it, there it was.
First a note: this is a new version. It will take some time before it is fully polished / functional. Some aspects of it are going to be downright clunky until a lot more code is written. However, as is there is nothing you can not accomplish in this version that was in the old version. There are some nice new features in addition already with more to come.

The way this works is slightly changed at the moment. You can only drag stuff to items in a custom categories item list. This makes it available to all other buttons using that category for all other characters. In addition, you can reset your preferences without wiping out your custom categories.
Now is it as nice as the old config yet? Certainly not. The todo list for the features you mention are as follows:
Items need to be draggable onto the category in the tree part of the config.
Items dragged onto a button go into its top custom category or automatically create a custom category if it does not have one
Buttons need a drop setting that if checked allow items to be dragged right onto the button itself
Categories in a button & items inside a category need to be draggable to rearrange them
Custom Categories need to be able to pick Periodic Table 3 sets for their contents.
Very stoked about the new version out... Just updated from the SVN a few min ago. I completely deleted my previous AutoBar save variables, just to have a clean slate. (Oh, do we still need AutoBarConfig?)
When adjusting item order on the bar. i.e. I like to have my healing items (potions / bandages/ etc) on the right and my utility items such as hearth and mount on the left.
I got bandages set to the right, but initialy as I moved the # higher, it moved to the left, so I put it back to a lower # then back to a higher then it went to the right. But it seems to want to bring its friend the Hearth button. I have Bandages set to 22, and it made Hearth 18, but no mater what I attempt to set the Hearth at, it always goes back to 18.
I am receiving No error messages.
Thanks for this great asset to mine and many others gaming experience.
Also of note, I am unable to change the button sizes, padding, etc... it seems the only option that I change in the Basic settings with the slider bars that works is Scale.
-This should be Autobar2. Major code changes really should earn a new name for the mod.
-At this stage of coding, this should be on a branch, not the main SVN. But the argument of "WAU is leet coder stuffz, you been warned, no likely, d/l off Curse yo" vs "8billion people now use WAU, the Adverts on it are NOT dev oriented; whatever it was originally, this is now what IS" has been done to death.
Its your addon, you will do whatever you will. I just hope someone Picks up the real Autobar and keeps it updated since you've moved on.
Anything else I say will be distillates of anger or sadness.
Ugh, just updated to the latest build of AutoBar and it's a total wreck. Really should have left the old version on the trunk until this one was more functional. It's really not usable at all in its current state.
However, as is there is nothing you can not accomplish in this version that was in the old version.
NOT true. None of the scaling/alpha/number of buttons options do anything at all. I can't size and position it the way I had the old one - it just sits in the middle of my screen with a bajillion tiny, opaque buttons.
Going to have to stop using AutoBar and go back to using a normal Bartender bar on the toons that have one to spare :\ I'm not going to manually roll back AutoBar and then wrestle with WAU to keep it from updating to the buggy new version.
edit: btw, if you're going to steal BT3's sticky bar code, you ought to make it able to stick to BT3's bars :p
^^^ Right click the line in WAU and pick "ignore Autobar", that should work. But I still need the old copy to roll back to and I forget how to get previous versions after being spoiled by WAU so long.
Yeah, my copy of Autobar wigged the hell out when I updated with WAU and this new thing came in. Is there a copy of the old (and functional) Autobar I could use until this settles down a bit? I like having all the configs in one place but the way it spazzed when it tried to load my old settings is freaking me out a bit. My bars went from a nice little cluster of six neatly fit into my action bar to a spam of icons across the middle of my screen that I couldn't seem to find any way to wrangle.
While I agree that the transition from old to new has not been handled well (I use WAU too) I gotta hand it to Toadkiller, this mod has always been awesome under his development (and essential once you start using it) and I am totally behind where he is going with it. The changes are going to allow him to give us a lot of the features we have longed for and make it easier than ever to use, configure, and extend.
That said, I do hope he gets it back to where it was as quickly as possible (the config controls either don't work at all or work in a very klunkly and incomplete manner. i.e. popup direction). He seems to be updating rapidly as he gets it rolling, so I'm optimistic.
If you are getting weird issues some config options actually are working, but you have to reload the entire UI manually to get them to actually assume the new configuration. It's a bit of pain to get used to the new config model, but you will be happier in the end.
Give him a little patience.
P.S. I WISH WAU had a 'beta' pane that showed beta versions of current addons you have installed, so we could help if we wanted, but it would be a choice to load em up (and be able to 'fall back' to a stable predictibly working version if we wished...).
Another voice of distress: having WAU splat a completely new blob of unfinished code on top of the useful addon I previously had is a headache. I'm unable to make this one act or look at all like the previous one did:
-- in all but "dreamlayout" the actual pushable buttons and tooltips are not in the places where the visible buttons are.
-- as mentioned before, button sizing and padding simply don't work
-- the "docked to" functionality doesn't do anything
So, I have a large, widely-spaced bar in the middle of my screen that I can manually put vaguely where the old one was, though it's the wrong size relative to the things it's next to (but not docked to).
I do have great faith that this addon will turn into something extremely useful and nifty, better than the original. But that's not today; today it's broken and buggy, -and- it's been dropped directly on top of the old one that works.
If you don't like the new version and want to go back to the old one, then download this http://files.wowace.com/AutoBar/AutoBar-r51227.7.zip, delete your current ..\Interface\AddOns\AutoBar folder, extract the zip into your AddOns folder, and you're good to go. If you use WAU, don't forget to right click AutoBar/AutoBarConfig in the addons list and set them to be ignored (otherwise you'll just overwrite it the next time you update via WAU). You also might want to consider keeping that zip (and the AutoBarConfig zip from the files page) somewhere on your computer in case you need them again.
Just keep in mind that the old version is probably no longer supported, and if it breaks at some point in the future you're on your own.
