I am a little confused on how to go about getting started. I just found this addon this morning. So my question is -- I have about 100 addons and I already have them all configured the way I want them to look/behave.
If I install Reflux NOW what do I have to do next? Is there a way for me to tell Reflux to save everything as it already is, or do I have to redo all 100+ addons from scratch all over again?
Reflux was designed with ui creators in mind. IF your not emulating profile management. and your addons all used the same profile name. you could setup a new profile via reflux switch <new profile name>, and be able to switch back to the original profiles assumig they wer eall named the same.

I am sorry but you totally lost me I can't even tell if you answered my question or not.
Again, I have over 100 addons all set up the way I like. I just found Reflux today, so...can I install Reflux now and type a command for it to save everything as it already is?
Not all my addons have profiles so I would have to do some sort of "emulation" I guess for many of those.
It sounded like you were saying, instead of using the command /reflux create MyProfile you were saying to START with /Reflux switch MyProfile and after Reflux does whatever it's doing, to type /Reflux switch again to go back to my original state.
This is where you lose me though because in order to switch back to my original state it needed to have a copy of that "original state" FIRST.
So again, I beg your patience, please talk to me like a two year old and tell me how to get started with Reflux.
I have 100+ addons all nicely setup as I like it and NOW I want to add Reflux and have Reflux take a "snapshot" of everything in it's current state and again not everything I have uses a profile so I would need to accomodate them too.
OR ---
Are you just going to say -- Install Reflux and redo all 100+ addons from scratch?
I'm sorry I am so lost but I am looking for "non-coder" simple basic instructions on how to do this.
I have played WoW for a little over a year now and I can still recall how after I set everything up on my very first character and then started a new character and found out what a pain in the ass it was to redo everything -- THAT was when I wished there was an addon like Reflux -- one where I can just copy all the settings from my main and whenever I create a new alt -- use Reflux to set up my alts.
I beg your patience and understanding -- lol -- have pity on me and try to re-explain how to get started -- in simpliest laymans terms.
Thanks.
EDIT: Having to redo all addons from scratch wouldn't be the worst thing in life I ever had to do, so if that's your answer let me know. I am prepared to do that very thing. Yesterday I started from scratch, started with a blank addons and wtf folder and went looking for new things and am interested in creating a whole new look/setup for myself.
So when I said I found Reflux yesterday I meant it. I have all these addons in my folder now, including Reflux -- but I still haven't logged into game yet -- so currently my WTF folder is still empty. So -- if THIS WOULD BE THE TIME to start using Reflux, let me know
or
Should I reinstall all my previous WTF files and THEN start Reflux?
EDIT AGAIN:
So pretend you are me -- you have 100+ addons all set up exactly the way you like them and everything is perfect for you and you are happy. Today -- you find "my" addon called Reflux and it sounds like the perfect solution for you for setting up all your new alts in game.
You download and install Reflux -- what do you do next knowing everything is already set up the way you like it?

Sonce your folders are empty. The EASIEST method would be just to start with reflux and setup form scratch.
1.) Login wth your empty saved variables.
2.) /reflux create NewUI
3.) Configure your stuff. To figure out if you need to emulate a profile, check the addon in question. Does it offer profiles or a way to set one? if not the most likely it needs emulated. You will need to check the .toc file that comes with the addon in question to get the saved variable name. Sorry but wow doesnt allow me to read that peice of metadata from the .toc or it woul dhave been super easy to do.
4.) Once your stuff is all setup /reflux save
5.) if you want to setup for your alt now login and /reflux create MyAlt
6.) repeat step 3, with the exception you dont need to add emulations again. (/reflux add SavedVariableNameHere)
To switchbetween the two, you do /relfux switch MyAlt to go to the alt profile or NewUI to the main.
Some things won't switch, such as Auctioneer Advanced. It uses profiles but won't change based on /reflux switch command. A couple other addons were the same way.
Also, even though Auctioneer Advanced uses profiles when I noticed the profile didn't switch I decided to look in all the folders for Auc Advanced. I found a bunch of .tocs that had Savedvariables section and I tried to add them via the /reflux add command but Reflux gives me a message saying it doesn't exist -- therefore it would not emulate.
So we have cases where addons that use profiles don't switch, and we have cases where the .toc tells us savedvariables but /reflux add won't accept them.
=====
Anyhow I have over 100 addons that I told you about and after spending all day reconfiguring them all for Reflux, and emulating some of them --- when I saved all of it I decided to try and log on my alt and do the switch command to see if Reflux really works. Well, I did the switch command and it reloaded ui and took a long time doing too but anyhow...end result was only some things actually changed.
, but due to how they manage thier profiles, reflux isnt gona help you there. To support it will require adjustment to reflux for it. If you can tell me what other addons didnt work then let me know. I know several UI compliations using reflux for distribtuion. Again I ask what addson didnt work so I can add support for them.
Ok, I just started today setuping a simple UI for my laptop.
So the first step would be /reflux create LaptopUI
Then after all setup is made, /reflux save
That I got. But then, what about adding another addon in the mix? Say after I decide to use Chinchila (a minimap addon), what should I do? I believe I should create a profile LaptopUI on it to make things works? Or should I use another command?
As I'm already writting, I'd like to suggest a feature - a simple gui where all addons are listed by (a selectbox) profile. That would be awesome.
Thanks for this addon by the way. It rocks :)
EDIT: "/reflux save" instead of "/reflux save LaptopUI"
Edit2; I r dumb the following post is irrelevent and was a product of a sleep deprived brain.
Erm Bump? ;p
I finally got off my arse and decided to make a new UI which I thought would be a good time to give Reflux a go. Now there's no way in hell I can configure my unit frames in 1 sitting nevermind a whole UI which is what reflux seems to be best suited for. I was thinking I could use the /reflux copy [profile] command to work on my UI bit by bit, by copying older, less configured profiles and then updating them.
Soooo I installed some addons, created a reflux profile and emulated my Stuf addon. Then configured half my unit frames and maybe a third of my addons before developing an headache and going /reflux save. After a nap I log a diff char and load my reflux profile, huzzah it worked! Now to test my theory from the previous paragraph I create a new profile and go /reflux copy [my1stprofile] all addon settings are carried over, all except for Stuf that is :<
I take it the copy command doesnt work on emulated addons? Is there a way to carry over my work with Stuf from my 1st profile? I guess the easiest option would be to swap Stuf with Pitbull or some other unit frames with a profile system...
EDIT: It seems my Stuf emulataion may not have been as successful as I thought. When I go back to my original reflux profile (called base0), Stuf is in it original config despite the changes I had made (and thought Id saved to that profile). I made a backup of my WTF folder after I first did /reflux save, reverting to this gets me back my edited Stuf.
Typing /reflux show with the old WTF folder active yields...
Active Profile is base0
base0 is an available profile.
StufDB is being emulated.
Addon state for the the active profile
which looks correct to me and yet the /reflux copy command seems to wipe my Stuf changes, any ideas? Sorry for the long-winded post but Id like to get this addon working for me.
Much obliged Mr. Kagaro.

So I was quite disappointed.
Have been trying to emulate ag_UnitFrames. I have copy and pasted the .toc letting directly into the /reflux add ag_UnitFrames command.
Wondered if you knew anyway around this problem, or if it just seems to be me with the issue?
So the first step would be /reflux create LaptopUI
Then after all setup is made, /reflux save

Will this create a profile for the new addon and update the list in LaptopUI?
Oh ok :P
But is there a way to make what I wrote earlier?
To simplift: After my UI is made and is working, if I want to make another addon in the list of the same profiles, what should I do?
/reflux switchexact Chincilla LaptopUI
configure chincilla and it shoul dbe using same pfoile as the rest.
the /reflux save command is to save emualted profiles i.e. mods without a profile system
to add on of those
/reflux switch LaptopUI
/reflux add <new saved variables to emulate>
/reflux save
Ive made the show command list addon state as well as what is being emulated in a given profile alogn wiht what profiles it knows about.
