After having played without Cowtip (now using TipTac - has its flaws, but there's not many tooldtip mods around these days!) for some time now, I can say that both the weird unattributed insane memory usage increase as well as the crashes have stopped. While it certainly looks like this is an issue on Blizzard's side that can be triggered by various mods, for me, it was CowTip.
I've noticed a very annoying bug with the method talents are pulled from your targets by CowTip and Pitbull. When both are enabled, you may only "get" talents from a character if you mouseover them, without selecting them. For example, if I click on "Char A," Char A's talents will NOT show up. If I try to mouseover him, his talents will STILL not show up (I've tested this, having a target selected and mouseovering him for 30 seconds to no avail). It is only when I deselect Char A and mouseover for 2-3 seconds, am I finally able to see talents. Needless to say, this is both annoying, and problematic in PvP.
Is this phenomenon well-known? I find it very annoying, and hopefully there is, or will be, a fix.
In further testing, disabling CowTip completely disables Pitbull showing talents. It seems Pitbull can't pull talents, but rather depends on CowTip to do so.
When Pitbull is disabled, CowTip can pull talents and display them, but still CANNOT do so if the character has been targeted. Basically, if you want to see talents on a new character approaching you (in PvP for example) you cannot target him without mouseovering him for 2-3 seconds first. This, as stated before many times, is very annoying.
-Pitbull seems to not be able to pull talents without CowTip running.
-CowTip can only pull talents when mouseovered a target for 2-3 sec (normal) WITHOUT the target being selected (should not be normal).
I'm using [TalentSpec] as my DogTag command, very simple, and it returns a simple XX/XX/XX.
I'm using embedded libs in my Addons (downloaded in .zips from files.wowace.com) so disabling CowTip and Pitbull not being able to pull talents should be a valid concern...
In further testing, players from other realms never show talent info in Cowtip, and thus not in Pitbull either. I have found other threads that pertain to this issue, but not in such depth. One does, however, cover the cross-realm problem. I will try their "fix" out, which is to revert to an old version. Someone, I believe and author, came in and said he fixed the problem of cross-realm talents...not so at all.
Well, this problem is resolved. Installing the external lib for talent inspection allows for cross-realm inspection. I, however, have removed all talent tags from my unitframes and tooltips, as in 2.4 talent inspection for hostile units was removed.
Also ive had a problem with CowTip with the borders. Some how in the last update the borders would vanish entirely on some tooltips like if I am going thru my bags or on some talents. I dot know if it is becuase of CowTip or another addon but im trying to find out.
I was wondering if there is a way to enable the info for skills when scrolling over the buttons? The only thing that currenlty shows up for me is the skill name and rank, but no info on what the skill actually does.
I'm having a problem with " TargetingList / Targeted by" function... is it possible to support multi-line/paragraph? it's realy annoying when its grow longer horizontally and cover my all screen on combat.
I was playing the game, just fine yesterday.
this morning, i did some updates on the WAU (to be honest, it was some library files but i could not tell you which one) logged into the game and go this message:
[2008/07/13 09:00:40-1-x1]: CowTip-r68121\Appearance\Appearance.lua:559: bad argument #1 to 'unpack' (table expected, got nil) ---
Any help please.
Once i log in, i get this error and Cowtip will not work, disabling this mod, everything works just fine..
