So what the heck is Combuctor?
I suck at explaining stuff, so I'm going to use pictures.
http://i20.tinypic.com/fp49yf.png
Combuctor is an all in one inventory type addon, with filters. As you can see from the shot, looks and functions like a Blizzard window (I'll make it movable eventually). Item slots dynamically resize to fit inside the frame. You can bring up the window by clicking on a bag, pressing a bag's hotkey, or pressing whatever hotkey you set for Combuctor.
http://i20.tinypic.com/woj8l.png
Combuctor separates your inventory into tabs based on bag type. So if you're carrying around an ammo bag, there will be a tab for ammo, or if you're carrying around an engineering bag, there will be a tab for that.
http://i21.tinypic.com/2uh1dhx.png
Combuctor also allows you to separate your inventory by item type, via buttons on the side of the frame. Right now those tabs are set to weapons, armoir, quote, consumables, trade goods, and miscellaneous. I plan on making them customizable later.
http://i23.tinypic.com/2vaobd4.png
There's buttons at the bottom to filter by item quality. Click on the color you want to show (yes, I know Legendary isn't that useful for everyone right now :P).
http://i24.tinypic.com/2qs2ddw.png
At the top is the text search box. In addition to matching items by name, it'll also pick up on types (ex, weapon), sub types (ex, swords), and equip locations (main hand, head, etc).
Can I look at stuff on my other characters?
If you have Bagnon_Forever installed (included in the download), you can see items on any character you've logged onto previously. Simply click on the player portrait in the inventory or bank frame to switch characters.
How do I move the frames?
alt + drag with the left button to move, alt + right click to reset to being a ui panel
I really like this. two options I would like to see, maybe thier in there but I cant find them.
1. Ability to drag frames where I want to (opps I suck at reading, see you eventually gonna add this). Actually I added InventoryFrame0 and InventoryFrame1 to ndragit and solved this issue.
2. On mouseover of items it tells me how many I have of each item in invetory, bank on all my characters. Bagnon has this option.
Sweet. Ammo and Shards should default to used% I'd say then. As I hunter I don't care that I have 2394 arrows, I care that my ammo bag is 66% full. I would assume Warlocks would be the same way.
2. Fubar plugin to display space available / total space
There are plenty of Foob plugins that can do this, there's no reason to put it in a bag addon.
After tinkering, my main complaint is the icon scaling. If I have only 2 items in a filter I get these huge 1" icons. You should set a max size, probably along the lines of 48px (I think that's the largest icon size anyway, any bigger and you're just gonna get ugly scaling).
Something else to consider, one of my favorite features of Onebag is the "bag break"... instead of mushing all the bag slots together a new row is started when a bag ends. You still get the all at once view, but with a small degree of partitioning. This would only be for the "All" view, of course.
Oh and a setting for max columns, Having mostly 18-slut bags I'd prefer 9 cols than 10, that way my bags fit evenly onto two lines each.
ok, I just gave this a go. Here are my immediate thoughts:
Moving the window - I see you've got plans for this already, but if the window was moveable right now, I'd consider the mod 100% useable as is.
Rarity Filters - Would be nice to have a way to select multiple filters, say if I wanted to look at both epic & rare quality items at once, I could toggle both filters.
Customizable tabs - I see you have plans for this, but I wrote it down before I saw that so I'll say it anyway so that the ink wasn't wasted. ;)
Ammo Counts - Building on Tekkub's idea, perhaps you could put %used on the tab, and then put count details on the tooltip?
Options - Not sure what you have planned as far as other options go, but perhaps you could allow for a way to customize the max icon size? When a filter matches only one item, the icon shown is HUGE! I find that a little bothersome, but most might not.
I have to say, I've been a long time user of bagnon (thank you, btw!), and I didn't think there would be any way I'd replace it with anything unless it just stopped working. Now that I've seen Combuctor, I know I've got a new bag mod! The only thing keeping me from jumping right on it is the lack of moveability.
I don't think you can avoid scrolling in a static window by cutting the content size with categorization. Eventually (if it doesn't already do scrolling) the icons will be tiny. Huge icons are also not very pretty.
If it does have scrolling I'd much prefer that over scaling.
First things first: I can't break it through any standard usage of my inventory. The only bug I've found is occasionally after using filters cooldowns on icons will get stuck on empty bag slots if items on cooldown are used in the filter.
As far as stability and usability, the addon is great in that respect. Since you're looking for feedback...
Positives:
- I like the default WoW UI look personally. Someone will make a Skinner version so keeping with the default theme is nice.
- Bottom tabs are GREAT in every way (see: Add these to Bagnon please)
- Top left portrait used to switch character and buffer the search bar makes a great header
Negatives:
- Search feature and side tabes are too intrusive and should be optional, toggleable, or collapsible.
- I dislike how the search/filter feature works vs. the search feature in Bagnon.
- Icon rescaling is annoying when icons get far too large (any smaller than a 6x* grid makes icons look huge)
- Icon rescaling is annoying when icons get far too small (Bank frame should be double-wide to accommodate this)
- The addon overall feels bloated with useless features that are not optional.
Feature configurations/suggestions:
- Clicking on portrait should allow you to access bank as well as other character (and their banks)
- Side tabs (if left as currently designed) could work like sub-inventories (by filtering). That is, you should be able to drop specific items into them, label them, and pick an icon for them. Right now, the filter 'types' I find to be rather impractical.
- Rarety filter is somewhat useless and could be turned into pre-defined search filters (like what you're going for with the side tabs) but instead of using your new search/felter method, use the Bagnon method. These would be used more for organization (which the current search/filter method really doesn't help at ALL with).
Currently, I could not replace bagnon to use this addon because it feels too feature-loaded (most of which for me, seem worthless). I like the look of it (reminds me of the old AllInOneInventory back in Cosmos days) but I can't base my decision purely on looks.
Wow, looks neat.
Is this gonna be "Bagnon NextGen"? Or is it a side-project you started, Tuller? ;)
(edit)
Ok, so far I like Bagnon more, but I guess it's a personal thing. I kinda agree with Surge's points. This is a neat super-all-in-one (although the autosizing needs min/max values), but I prefer the simplicity and streamlined functionality of Bagnon. Item borders, one Inventory, searchbar, all I need. :)
* Icon scaling: I'll be implementing a maximum icon size.
* Frame positioning: I'll be implementing a way to drag the frame (alt + drag of the menu bar)
* Item ownership tooltips: Will be added as an option (I might even make it a separate addon to Bagnon_Forever
* Ammo and slot counts: I'll try out the percentage idea for shards and ammo. Tooltips will give a slightly more detailed breakdown, probably just number of empty slots + number of items.
Something else to consider, one of my favorite features of Onebag is the "bag break"... instead of mushing all the bag slots together a new row is started when a bag ends. You still get the all at once view, but with a small degree of partitioning. This would only be for the "All"

This stuff goes in the 'maybe' pile, since it requires a significant rewrite of my layout code :P

The plan right now is to make the bank frame a bit bigger to deal with this, but I really want to avoid scrolling.
Rarity Filters - Would be nice to have a way to select multiple filters, say if I wanted to look at both epic & rare quality items at once, I could toggle both filters.
Will be implemented.
Negatives:
- Search feature and side tabs are too intrusive and should be optional, togglable, or collapsible.
The search box will remain at its current position, since there would be dead space there otherwise.
- I dislike how the search/filter feature works vs. the search feature in Bagnon.
Can you go into more detail here? Do you mean how Bagnon fades out items, or something else?
- Side tabs (if left as currently designed) could work like sub-inventories (by filtering). That is, you should be able to drop specific items into them, label them, and pick an icon for them. Right now, the filter 'types' I find to be rather impractical.
So to go into more detail: I intend for the side filter to be essentially 'bookmarks' for searches. You'll be able to pick an itemType, subType, and/or equip location, though I might also allow search text, too. If those don't work out well enough once 2.3 is out, I'll move on to periodic table categories.
- The addon overall feels bloated with useless features that are not optional.
If it makes you feel better, I can assure you that the filtering is optimized enough that it should have nearly zero CPU cost until you actually use it :)
Is this gonna be "Bagnon NextGen"? Or is it a side-project you started, Tuller?
Its a separate project. Bagnon is getting the bag frame from Combuctor, and they both share Bagnon_Forever, obviously.
How about an option to have a text list of inventory? I hate having to always mouse over to find what I need or run a search.
I actually wrote one up while working on Combuctor. I'm pondering reimplementing the view as an option.
"The addon overall feels bloated with useless features that are not optional."
i feel this way about any bag mod that does any more than AIOI / OneBag, if you can't orginize something yourself with an All In one Bag layout, then nothing will help that.

Is there a bank frame?
Yes, and here's what it looks like:

alt + drag with the left button to move, alt + right click to reset to being a ui panel
[Normal (12/30)] [Shards (16/20)] [Keys (5)] [Ammo (3154/3200)]
Maybe give options to show as used/total, free/total, free#, free%, used#, used%
Oh and needs some access to the actual bags, for upgrading and the like.
It does, theres a little bag button in the top right to toggle showing bags.
The current plan is to stick that information into the tooltips for each tab. I'll try and stick in a current count for shards and ammo though.
I didn't cover it in the screenshots, but:

Mr plow works well with it as well.
1. Drag the frame around (I see you are adding this)
2. Fubar plugin to display space available / total space
3. A sort / stack option would be nice
This is a great addon - thank you for creating it!
