My addon, my decision still. Don't like where the addon is going, please use something else.
The ONLY thing that has changed by me from 2.3 -> 2.4 was me removing NPC Emotes. All other things I added were extra features. And as of this morning you can even make it look exactly the same again as it was prior to 2.4.
The fact that you now see a gazillion more messages is due to several reasons:
Blizzard increased the combatlogrange by default to 'everything you can see' without an option to reduce it.
Blizzard introduced new hot areas where LOTS of people flock to: Isle of Quel'Danas. This combined with the extra range causes a shitload of spam. Not much I can do about that.
The fact that I provided filtering options to filter out spells/messages has all of a sudden become something shit and crap? Before 2.4 you didn't even have those options. As I have stated before, the filtering options could use some work, but they're there, they function and they're more than you had before.
As for bugs, I fix em, your hunter shot thing was fixed this morning.
Now if you hate my attitude so much, go write your own addons and deal with the everlasting whines of users.
One thing I missed from the old Witchhunt was the ability to toggle the "targetonly" mod throw a macro. I noticed you added back the slash command to open the options window but short of changing it in the options menu is there a command I can call to toggle it? Not a huge issue just something I have been missing.
And as of this morning you can even make it look exactly the same again as it was prior to 2.4.
I haven't tested the latest version yet because the US servers are down, but if this is 100% true (which I doubt), then I thank you for finally realizing how much better the older version was. Again, I have to reiterate how useless it is for a spell alert mod to show "Soandso begins to cast Polymorph" instead of just "*Polymorph*" or "Soandso gains Blessing of Protection" instead of "+Blessing of Protection+"
I also had a problem with filters never saving with the 2.4 version that I never previously mentioned. I always want to see casts and I assume that means leaving the "begins to cast" box unchecked, but everytime I log in, that box is filtered (checked) along with "casts" and one other one I don't remember off-hand.
One thing that will really make this addon much better is if you can filter out NPC spells/abilities and leave only ones done by players. Is this possible to implement?
I did not realize anything, this version is still better. The defaults are as they are, but you now have a Message Format option in the menu.
You can set the text to: *$c: $e*
and get the old formats back etc.
Also fixed the bug with the message filters, thanks for reporting that.
A Unit Filter is being worked on, and you will be able to ignore certain units or unittypes and thus setting it to player only.

The newest version is awesome.
Now the only thing that bothers me is the huge combat log range, but I guess that's up to Blizzard to add a customizable range.
I actually really like this new version after testing it now. Thank god you allowed for customization of the output display. If you can just add a couple things, it would be much better:
-Filters for units so we can filter out NPC's/pets etc and only show players
-Maybe asking too much or outside the scope of the mod, but a timer bar for when important cooldown buffs are gained and how long until they expire. Mainly just for things like Ice Block, Divine Shield, Cloak of Shadows, Blessing of Protection, etc. Other things like Innervate and Death Wish don't really matter since you can just estimate those things but the immunity buffs are very important to know durations on and NECB doesn't work this patch with it, and no mod that I know of took its place yet.
I don't want to repost my last post. You completely missed the point, though.
-Your decisions make sense, and I agree with everything you've done with the addon. (Except removing emotes, but I can always try to hack that in myself later if I care that much.)
-Your attitude towards your users sucks.
-You called your users retards in the patch notes. Honestly, I've never seen any other mod author do that. This was regarding a feature I was thinking of requesting anyway, just to ease convenience.
-You refuse to offer compatibility with a program offered from the same website your mod is hosted on. When a line you can copy-paste is offered to you in a relatively openly and friendly manner, you still shoot it down and refuse.
-Every interaction from users is 'whining' by your definition.
It all points out to a really negative personality. I realize there's plenty of users that can cause that reaction, but not everyone's that way.
I didn't even make the complaint originally, mind you, Serennia did. I'm just trying to clarify what I think about why you're getting that kind of response from your users. I could care less, actually. You could insult me six ways to never and I'll just shrug and go on. I'm also not trying to insult you either, I'm just trying to clarify what's going on here.
Maybe your users would 'whine' less if you didn't keep treating them like crap (short of actually providing the addon, which rocks by the way). Just a thought.
Anyway, I'm done on that subject and I'll stick to bug reports from now on, since I know feature requests will be more than ignored, they'll be insulted.

Yeah, I don't think SCT supports icons at the moment, and that's where my output is anyway. It'd be great if you could set where the icon is in the message as well (if that's possible). $c: $i$e, for instance.
I have combat only and target only turned off so I'm getting spammed to death in Arathi Basin. This is normal of course. However, in all of this spam, I do not see any dark blue, light blue, or green messages. (Buff gains, buff losses, and totems? I don't know what green is.) Yellow and purple work great, and red tends to work only for the current target. I'm betting that's a limitation that can't be worked around. But I'm not seeing any blue or cyan so I don't think those filters are working?
Love the customization options, though. Even though it's spammy, once we reduce the size of the message, it's still not too bad.
I'd like to see the option to remove the realm name from the player's name in a battleground. That'll reduce the spam a little as well.
I realize there's really no way to tell what's a healing spell and what's not, but it'd be great if there was a way to make those stand out in some way. X is healing Y with Z. And an option to make 'Y' a different color/phrase if it's your target. Like red, and actually say 'your target' or something. That would be awesome.

Yeah, so fucking what? He wrote it, he gets to decline to accept demands on the time he's already freely given. You folk need to calm down.
"I'm not going to do that." "That's not in line with the addon." "Try this addon instead." "You'll need to find a different addon to do that." "I don't have the time to install that feature." "Sorry."
Acceptable. (So yeah, plenty of Ammo's replies have been acceptable.)
"God you're a retard." "What a freaking idiot." "Never gonna happen." "Take it or leave it." "Stop whining." "It's my addon, I make it for me, I could care less what you think about it." "*Completely ignored*"
Not acceptable. Or perhaps, not appropriate would be a better word. Using these too often just really comes across as nasty and pissed. Unprofessional.
Point blank. I'm not certain if I can simplify the issue any more than that.
Now, if my feature requests come off as demanding, I'm sorry. But to me, "Could you please do X?" is not too demanding. "I'd like to see" and "It'd be great if" are kinda neutral, in my opinion. And obviously not all users or feature requests will be polite, but that's no need to be rude to them, whether that's in response or preemptive.
Plenty of the time, myself in particular, I don't suggest a feature I think would only be useful to me, I suggest something I think would be useful to everyone, even to the author himself as a user of his addon, or at least the majority of users. If I don't think most people will want/need the feature, I typically ask if it could be an option. I say often that options please everyone, at least when it comes to addons.
Cool. ^_^ I'll check it out when I get back from work tonight.
What about buff gains/losses not showing up, though? (Dark blue, cyan, default colors.) Is that a bug or are they filtering into purple because they're casting the buff as well?

Could be I messed up the pattern for those. checking...
Is there any way we can get slash commands back? Id like to set up a macro so people can just click the macro and set it up for output type and only for target. As it is now, I have to include an exstensive readme on how to set things up. With slash commands, itll let me simplify it.
Either that or let it save globally and not per character.

If you don't like The new Witchhunt a) don't use it or b) ask nicely for improvement. Don't take shit for granted.

It looks like shit still in the default witchhunt output so I disabled icons by default for now till I can get it working properly.

You can turn off icons alltogether with the toggle in the options screen.
Or remove them specifically from those formats you don't want them in.
Enjoy.

Now to get icons working in SCT (my chosen form of output...) Not your responsibility, though, waiting for the SCT team to take care of it.
