I have decided to stop working on this addon. Rabbit was right in saying that BankStack offers all functionality that you need to sort your inventory and is more advanced and faster than my Sort addon. I myself am using BankStack now, instead of Sort, and that is a clear sign.
I will remove the repository from WowAce, to keep things neat and tidy.
I apologize to those of you who enjoy using my addon, but encourage you to check out BankStack. Thanks for your enthousiastic replies and support.
Aw, that makes me sad. I greatly preferred Sort to either MrPlow or BankStack.
I found Sort to be much faster than MrPlow. Sort has a nice minimap button to press, rather than slash commands or keybinds AND works dynamically - bank open, it sorts the bank - no bank window open, it sorts the bags. I've never been able to figure out how to sort my bank with BankStack (odd, given its name), both MrPlow and Sort are superior in this regard. I really enjoyed Sort's ability to sort while AFK.
If Sort ever stops working, I'll go back to MrPlow. I really don't care for BankStack at all.
I expect the Sort addon to continue working for the foreseeable future, because I don't think the API commands to pick up items and put them somewhere else in the bags will be changed. Also, I did not use any hardcoded values like the number of bank slots or the size of the standard bag. Instead, I used the predefined variables. Should Blizzard ever change the size of your bags, the addon should automatically follow.
Of course, its FuBar implementation might break if the author of FuBar makes radical changes. Let's hope he doesn't. Same goes for Ace. But since the libraries are in the same folder as Sort, maybe it will continue working.
I feel sorry to disappoint you, but I like playing the game more than writing and updating addons and BankStack provided me with the functionality I was looking for when writing Sort.
By the way, if you use BankStack in combination with FuBar, you can alt-click it to sort your bank.
I am saddened that this addon has been removed.
I have tried BankStack, and do not like it at all.
BankStack was last updated 4 months ago.
Mr. Rabbit saying this addon should be removed from the SVN is a tad heavyhanded. This Sort addon is far superior to the two addons Rabbit mentions, Mr. Plow and BankStack where my needs are concerned.
To intimidate an author into removing a mod because it's similar to another mod is heavy-handed to be kind, and blatantly unethical to be fair. Is the SVN truly ruled with such an iron fist?
This is why I'm glad the SVN will be dead soon, so that those who've been with this community for a little while won't be able to dictate to other authors what they can and can't do. I've even seen a well known author of this community try to do that at WoWI, but thankfully that was WoWI so there was no authority in that complaint.
I think that competition and choice should be embraced, as such things allow the community to grow. I could understand that kind of response if the OP was stealing code and claiming it as his/her own, but from what I understand that wasn't happening. But the reaction is almost as if it were. Mod functionality is IP now?
I urge the OP to upload his mod somewhere else, because to be honest I was looking for a replacement for Mr. Plow (and its ckknight-ish nonsense messages) too. I don't care for BankStack either, but now a possible alternative has disappeared.
I really hope we'll see this reappear on Curse, WoWI or someplace.
I wanted to use this so much I actually put in the effort to track it down, I've been using it for a while and it's amazingly nifty.
Again, to the original author: I don't think you should abandon this. If you put in a DataBroker plugin to replace the FuBar one, I think you'd be on to a real winner.
This mod just has so many nice touches that haven't been done elsewhere, and it simply outperforms the competition. I think my favourite thing about it is that if I happen to go AFK, Sort automatically sorts my bags while I'm AFK. That's bloody genius, that is.
If it's not welcome here, then continue it on WoWI or Curse(Forge) and don't let your confidence in your work be struck down.
That's all I have to say anyway, I just don't want to see this mod disappearing for all of the worst reasons.
I agree, no new addons should be creating FuBar or Titan plugins in my opinion. Just make a Databroker plugin. In the long run it will require less resources, and gives more UI choices to the end users.
