Just as a heads-up for everyone watching this thread, I will most likely be pulling ShieldsUp (and my other addons) from WowAce in the coming weeks before the Big Change. If you don't know what I'm talking about, read the "WowAce's plans for the future" thread. I'm already using another SVN for my actual development, so uploading versions to WowAce has primarily been done as a convenience for one-click updater users. After the transition, I'll see what the new WowAce has to offer for authors (and users), and may or may not host my addons here again. Even if I decide not to, the new WowAce updater will be able to download from Curse, and my addons will continue to be available on WoWInterface and Curse.
Have just stared using this addon and it's a good one.
I have 2 bugs on it though
1 - Sometimes I have some charges left on my water shield yet the number of charges on the screen shows 0. Usually recasting the shield updates the number
2 - I am getting no sound warnings when my water shield runs out nor can I untick either the sound option or the text option on water shield in the options (I can do so on earth shield but since I dont have it I cant test it).
1 - yeah i noticed that myself. it sounds like that might be hard to get around. phanx recently changed the aura scanning and it works great for earth shield, but now water shield is less accurate. would there be any way to get water shield to use the older method while having earth shield use the new one phanx?
2 - some of the warning options are temporarily not functioning, sounds being one of them. phanx is aware of it and hopefully those will be working soon :D
I'll be removing ShieldsUp from WowAce early next week before the transition happens. ShieldsUp will continue to be available on WoWInterface and Curse; see the initial post in this thread for links to the addon's pages on those sites. I've added an in-game notification to this effect as well. The notification is intentionally huge and intrusive, and will appear on every load until you download the addon from somewhere else. :)
No, and I don't plan to add a FuBar plugin. I dislike extraneous crap on my screen too, but the whole point of ShieldsUp is to have something that's prominently visible at all times. I'm not sure what the point would be to have something like this tucked away on FuBar...
guess ill ask here. you are officially moving all your addons off of wowace i take it phanx? could you post a list of your addons in a new thread with the announcement? i'm thinking the only addons of yours that i still update via wowace is onscreenhealth and automaton (which i know you are not the official maintainer of), but i'm not real sure. a separate thread of your announcement might help users of your addons switch over more easily.
also, looks like there is a typo in the announcements you have already posted. they say "on WowAce and Curse" when i think you meant "on WowInterface and Curse." might cause some confusion.
Yes, I am officially moving all of my addons off wowace, for now at least. After things settle down again, I'll take a look at the new system, but I'm currently already using another repo for actual devlopment, and maintaining a separate copy of each of my addons, and remembering to copy and paste files and commit updates to WowAce, is a bit of a pain in the ass.
As for users, I think if they manage to miss the giant box that pops up all over their screen in-game, I doubt another forum thread would help them. The alert box will pop up on every load, but is only present in versions downloaded from WowAce. Once users grab the addon from somewhere else, no more box. Also, I'll be removing my addons from the SVN here entirely next week. I just wanted to give users some kind of notification so that they don't end up using an old version forever because they have no idea it's not getting updated by WAU anymore.
