ShieldsUp adds a text-based monitor frame to your screen, showing you the remaining charges on your Water Shield and Earth Shield, as well as the name of the last person you cast Earth Shield on. Optionally, ShieldsUp can warn you when a shield expires, either by playing a sound, sending a message to your combat text addon, or both.
It is based on the excellent, lightweight beSch by Infineon, and adds more exentsive configuration and an in-game configuration interface. See attached images for screenshots.
Configurable sound and text alerts supporting MSBT, SCT, and more
Configurable font, size, colors, transparency, and position
Planned Features:
Track Lightning Shield if it's used instead of Water Shield
Automatically show/hide for solo, party, raid, arena, or battleground
Add "solo mode" that shows only a single tracker for yourself
Use "solo mode" for shamans without Earth Shield
Localization: ShieldsUp is compatible with all locales. However, the interface and options text is only translated into English and Russian. If you speak French, German, Spanish, Korean, or Chinese and would like to provide translations for one of these locales, please send me a PM on this site or on WoWInterface.
Requesting Features:
Please use the WoWInterface feature request tracker if possible; especially at this early stage, it is much easier to keep track of feature requests in an organized tracker than in comments or a forum thread. Also please note that ShieldsUp is intentionally limited in scope to monitoring shaman shields, and only monitoring your cast shields. Requests for features outside this scope will be denied.
Reporting Bugs:
Please use the WoWInterface bug tracker if possible, and/or check to make sure your bug hasn't already been reported in the tracker before opening a new report. Make sure that Lua errors are enabled in your interface options, or install a bug capture system like !BugGrabber + BugSack. When reporting a problem, please provide the version of ShieldsUp you are using, what you were doing when the problem occurred, whether or not the problem occurs every time to do that thing, whether the problem is resolved by resetting your settings, whether the problem is resolved by disabling all other addons, what locale you play in, and (most importantly) the exact text of any error messages you recieve.
Embedded Library Notes:
ShieldsUp currently uses AceConfig-3.0 and AceGUI-3.0 to provide a GUI configuration. However, I am not satisfied with the large size of these libraries as compared to the small size of my addon code for distribution purposes, and may or may not continue to use these libraries for GUI configuration, if I can find a smaller solution that doesn't significantly increase my effort to implement and maintain.
Font and sound support is handled via the LibSharedMedia-3.0 library. ShieldsUp does not waste bandwidth and disk space including a bunch of extra font and sound files; as such, if ShieldsUp is your only LSM-3.0 addon, you will only be able to select Blizzard fonts and a few Blizzard sounds. Other LSM-3.0 addons may bundle extra fonts or sounds in their download, and these will be available to use in ShieldsUp. Alternatively, you may download the SharedMedia collection, which provides a wide selection of fonts (and textures) for use in addons which support LSM-3.0 (or 2.0 or even 1.0). If LibSharedMedia-3.0 is not present on your system, ShieldsUp will default to Friz Quadrata (the default game font) and default bell sounds.
Text alert support is handled with the LibSink-2.0 library, which provides an abstract output method for addons to simplify supporting the various combat text addons, including MSBT, SCT, Parrot, BCF, and Blizzard's Floating Combat Text. If LibSink-2.0 is not present on your system, ShieldsUp will route text alerts to the raid warning frame.
Very nice, I love beSch but I always needed it a tad different and hate LUA configuration.
Out of sheer curiosity, once ShieldsUp is done do you plan to enhance the the be-Totemrange-Tracker with an ingame GUI, too?
I have no specific plans to do so... I do use beTor, but generally I don't really do anything about it if someone is out of range, unless I'm assigned to melee totems. Ranged DPS can move their own damn selves if they want my totems! :P
Hi there i am the author of the original beSch. Greetings Phanx nice to see this finally here.
Just some things of mine i would like to mention...
Announcement is fine to say "faded" but the message for each earthshield proc is annoying, could you make an option to just show the fade message
If another heal shaman in raid casts ES on my tank in besch the color of the count turned yellow and still shows the count. This option would be nice cause i wanna see if annyone recasts on my tank
The positioning elements currently are only adding/substracting 5(or 10) so i cant position the frame 100% correct. Would be nice to either make the scrollbar adding/sub. 1 or to have the option to enter an absolute value
Dunno if fixed allready but anchor the frame to UIParent not Worldframe so it hides on AltZ UI hide...
sounds are not playing for me. i'm using the version from here on wowace, and using sm and lsm-3.0. i can select the sounds i want to use just fine, but they won't play. it might be a bug when using no externals, as i do.
I would be nice if zou could set the frame offset in steps by 1 and with a much larger range. It is not possible for me to move the frame in a screen corner.

same here, deDE client with no-externals

you can. just type in the exact numbers (click on the number below the slider). steps by 1 works, larger range not sure right now

I'm not seeing messages for each proc. What does the message say, and where are you seeing it? Do you have Earth Shield fade notification enabled or disabled?

Yes, I noticed this wasn't working properly last night. I'm not sure when I broke it, but it'll be fixed soon.

You can click the number below the slider to type a more precise value. Dragging slider bars isn't really comfortable in increments of 1, so I intentionally set the slider to move in larger increments.

Already fixed, long before uploading. :P

I also play with standalone libraries (no externals), but I play with game sound off, and it's been a while since I turned them on to test. It's possible I broke this also; I'll look into it.
a lot of the time i like to recast earth shield on a target before a boss fight. sometimes it will display as 0 instead of 6 like it should. also happens very rarely when recasting water shield. this was also a small problem i had with beSch. would like to see a fix for it if possible.
Upon Earthshield target zoning, the counter still shows the last seen remaining charges on the target.
EDIT: This only happens in battleground zonings. However it has done what previous poster said, each time is when I don't have the target targetted while casting Earthshield (ie. mouseclicking or using [target= macros).

This is because the combat log doesn't report to you that the aura has faded from its bearer. It will happen any time the Earth Shield target sees a loading screen, and having or not having the Earth Shield target targetted has absolutely no effect on anything. The same events are fired regardless of whether the target of your spell is the "target" unit. Anyway, the zoning issue is something I am aware of and will eventually fix, but at the moment it isn't a high priority. If you're zoning, you're not in combat anyway, and the primary purpose of the addon is to monitor your shields in busy situations like combat.

Known issue, on the to-do list. Will be fixed Soon(tm).
Looking forward to the raid update for this, at the moment it's pretty pointless seems as I don't PVP as Resto and already have my Water Shield tracked :<
are you still updating this here on wowace files? noticed your latest fix for sounds was only uploaded to wowinterface.
Oops. Forgot. I use my "private" SVN for most development, and maintain a separate copy of the files for updating "release" versions on wowace. I'll upload now. :)
Edit: Updated on wowace now.

I'm not sure what you mean by "raid update"? Auto-visibility states and solo mode are at the top of the to-do list, after fixing the recasting issue.

I haven't looked at your code to see how big your config is but you might check out tekkonfig by tekkub of course. I wrote a small Auction House addon and am using tekkonfig in it. It can be found on github.com/tekkub
the Watershield-text seems to be slightly above the Earthshield-text.
Fixed in next release.

I've played around with it, but actually using it would require me to learn how the dropdown menu system works (tK would provide the box to click, but I'd still have to build the menu myself), which I haven't had the time or the inclination to do yet. :P

I had a look at the code and being no lua or wow api expert i could not find the culprit. Choice of font did not matter either..

Likely tonight or tomorrow night.
