erm the addon seems to have lost an option since the last version
Yes, I removed the "Direction" option to simplify the attachment implementation.
I thought nobody had their chat frames on top to make use of it, but it seems I was wrong. ;-)
Been using the MiniChat for a few days now... I use it with PhanxChat mod.
What I have been running into is.... on occasion when I log in to game... the chat frame is still minimized. When clicking on the icon to maximize, nothing happens.
What appears to be happening, it has reset my chat frame to the X Y width and height of the minimized.
What i have to do is resize my chat frame, and the min max button works as it should. But later on, after loging out and back it... I could be minimized agian, and I have to reconfigure the chatframe window.
I have deleted the saved Vars for minichat, just in case that was the issue, but it still comes back... random too, as sometimes its a problem then others not.

omg pls get it back.. dont wanna change my interface again ;)
With the latest revision I'm experiencing several problems.
1. The level of the chat frames is below everything else. Only when I grab a chat frame and hover it over another do the levels correct. Upon reloading the UI the levels reset to the lowest.
2. After I maximise a frame it remains maximised. The button doesnt change direction either.
3. On every /reload ui the chatframes position reset.
4. The frames refuse to be placed at the bottom of my screen. The position resets higher when I drop the frame.
I'm using minichats latest revision. Oh btw the attach option is working great. It's awesome to see so many features so soon after the initial release. Keep up the good work!
EDIT: I deleted my WTF data for minichat and it was working fine upon set up. After I maximised my combat log it became stuck just as before. Upon a /reload ui the chat frame levels went back to the lowest setting (under action bars/ufs). However the combat log was maximising fine during the setup. I guess that enabling certain features broke it. I believe it was the animation setting.
EDIT2: It seems that the chatframe alpha is a problem with skinner.
- Can't resize chat windows by the top or bottom when the addon is Enabled.
- I tried unchecking Enabled then moving/resizing chat windows, but when I clicked Enabled again it moved the chat windows back to their previous position and size :(
- Chat tabs can still get stuck to the mouse cursor if I try to undock them and drag them around, I think when MC tries to auto-minimize.
The net result is I'm going to have to disable MiniChat, delete its savedvariables, log in, reposition/resize my windows, then reenable MiniChat in order to get my chat frames to stay positioned and sized the way I want :(
r46864 btw
Also, moving the chat window even with the addon Enabled, then disabling and re-enabling it snaps the window back to its old position.
Also also, I once accidentally moved the chat frame too low and it minimized off of the screen...
Edit:
Also, when multiple tabs are docked to one chat frame, MiniChat remembers different heights for each tab, causing the tabs to maximize to uneven heights. It's a huge pain to try to adjust the heights as well.
Dunno if this has been asked before, but is there any way you could add an option to hide the min/max buttons?
Simply set the button alpha to 0.

1. The level of the chat frames is below everything else.
Strange, because I don't touch their levels.
2. After I maximise a frame it remains maximised. The button doesnt change direction either.
I had this happen, too, although rarely. It's simply solved by an UI reload. At the moment I don't know why this happens but I'll keep an eye on it.
3. On every /reload ui the chatframes position reset.
If you have frames attached to each other, you have to move the lowest frame. If you move the other ones, they will reset to their attachment position when min-/maximizing or reloading the UI.
4. The frames refuse to be placed at the bottom of my screen. The position resets higher when I drop the frame.
Maximize the frames and position them.
It seems that the chatframe alpha is a problem with skinner.
Sad to hear but I can't confirm as I don't use skinner.

The x and y positions are saved when the frame is min- or maximized.

You can use "/script ChatFrame2:SetHeight(ChatFrame1:GetHeight())" to equal out the heights.

A fix is now in that causes tabbed windows to not min-/maximize. That solves your problem.

Glad to see it back, it was actually one of the things asked for in the DreamChat thread and although I don't use it now it will be fun to play with while redesigning my UI :)
There was an error (or actually 2) I got the first time I attached General to Combat log frame and then moved the combat log around. It actually happens when I move the Combat log frame (to which General is attached) while General frame is minimized and CL frame maximized:
Interface\FrameXML\FloatingChatFrame.lua:1083:ChatFrame2:SetPoint():ChatFrame1 is dependent on this
When I after that try to minimize the CL frame, I get another error (which doesn't go away with pressing Okay):
Interface\FrameXML\FloatingChatFrame.lua:1040:attempt to perform arithmetic on a nil value
After a /reloadui or relog this leads to a variety of interesting, buggy behaviour without the lua-errors and MiniChat saying "Can't attach chat frame because of dependencies". I was about to give a more detailed description of the following behaviour but I don't know if that was necessary.
But it seems the trick is just to /reloadui right after you decide to attach a frame to another and before you move the frames. Well actually you can move the frames as long as the one attached to the other isn't minimized while the other is maximized (now I had the error with everything minimized - 5 chat windows on top of each...). Otherwise I could only fix it by deleting the savedvariables. Also if the attaching otherwise works, trying to "attach the chat windows Blizzard style" doesn't have a nice result ("Can't attach chat frame...").
I only have Bartender3 and Cartographer enabled with the latest version of MiniChat while testing and I use external libraries.
Now that I got the attaching to work (4 frames in top of each other, attaching general to cl didn't somehow work), when I have one frame maximized and the others minimized, each time someone says something on the maximized chat it gets minimized and the only way to resize it is to "resize" it, but that's just until someone says something again.
Otherwise I think MiniChat is great, I've been waiting for a functioning DreamChat "replacement" (I didn't use it because of bugs:P). And eventhough MiniChat is a bit buggy, it's nothing you generally can't handle and the GUI is just great. Thanks :)
Has anyone tried parenting eePanels stuff with MiniChat yet? :P

That seems like throwing the baby out with the bathwater, but I think I can live with it. What would be better would be to be able to somehow tell MiniChat that those tabs are on one frame so that it knows not to keep the same height information for them.
working much better - however I still have one issue. the new smart minimize works great, however if it minimizes to 1 line of text and multi lines come through, it doesn't auto resize the window, but places the text above the chat as before. Seems to happen most often with the General and Local Defense channels. It doesn't happen all the time, but often enough that I notice it.
Also - whenever I change the direction it minimizes/maximizes from (up/down) - it reloads the ui - otherwise it's working great!
The only thing I'm missing is a possibility to anchor chatframes relative to other chatframes. I'm using two chatframes (Chat and the Combatlog just above it in a seperate frame - not stacked with tabs) and the minimizing works very well, but I'd love to have the Combatlog slide up and down whenever my Chatbox maximizes or minimizes.
Or is this possible already?

I noticed this as well, but I'm guessing it's intended. It would have been nice for there to be a warning in the tooltip or a popup dialog or something.
I also noticed that if I have multiple chat windows docked as tabs and I pull one off to its own frame, it doesn't get a MiniChat button until I reload my UI. Not a big deal but something I thought I should mention in case it can be fixed.
Another issue I've seen is that sometimes my main chat frame will start minimized and won't maximize. I have to grab the bottom edge and drag it down and then it starts working fine again.
I've also noticed that the left and right edges of the chat frames will often drift by a pixel between sessions. Not the end of the world, probably just a rounding error in conjunction with UI scaling or something.

If you use the Waterfall-GUI and hover over the dropdown menu, the tooltip has a big WARNING in it.
