who is going to eat my crackers now that parrot is gone? :(
ckk i wish you the best of luck with your new job. i want you to know that i have really enjoyed your work over the years and appreciate everything you have done for the wow addon community.
Your a tard mate, maybe if you had a "grown up" job, you'd realize what CK does for free is your choice to use or not, but no one cares if you think it's bloated, or if it's awesome. Authors everywhere hate your kind, and the guy who wrote SCT think your a tossa 2.
People were throwing their opinions in, just thought I'd add mine. It's not fair to allow positives and not negatives, there's no reason to insult me either. I respect him for his work and still use PitBull/CowTip. Don't run your mouth.
Contrary to probably yourself, I don't use an Addon just because of it's author, I weigh the merits of said addon. A broken addon isn't useful to anybody!
I do not think that people are tards because of discussing alternatives to an addon in that addons thread - especially after the author told peeps to use alternatives until a working version is ready. Basically saying "I have seen that this and that is superior and won't give Parrot 2.0 a chance" is kinda... not nice, tho.
I love using Parrot and will come back as soon as it's updated. Right now I will try MSBT.
However, I would discourage attacking other mod authors. They've gone through a great deal of effort to offer us free mods that help enhance our WoW experience, and for this I'm appreciative of all their hard work.
Choosing one addon over another is a personal preference, so please feel free to support your favorite authors without putting down other mod writers.

I'll give it a chance, I'm not an asshole. Switching back to SCT just gave me a feel of what a Minimalist addon looked like again, that's all.
Well, this is a sad, sad turn of events. I came to the forum after a few days of letting the patch rush calm down, and one of the top five addons of all time isn't updated.
GL with the job, CKK, and I hope you find the time to update Parrot soon. If you do I will pay you one BILLION dollars.
I did 'revert' to MSBT, and its a 'suitable for now' replacement. Hmm. 'Replacement' is a strong word. ;)
This is by far the mod that i miss the most, when i started using Parrot i liked it but took time to learn it even though its pretty simple to setup, but now that i dont have it anymore, the gaming experince isnt the same, by far, its the best combat scrolling mod out there.
Hope when u get some free time, you manage to make Parrot work again for 2.4, i mean really dont need a revamp, nothing fancy just pls make it work again =(.
Anyway, thanks ck for all the great mods and the time that you have spend making our gaming much better.
Congrats on the job Ck. I'll miss this addon for now, but hopefully you'll find some time to take care of Parrot in the future (along with your other great addons).
I will say this... don't feel like you need to be Omen and make a super duper version of your already great mod. Parrot is popular because it does (or did?) what it is supposed to, is easy to setup, and doesn't do much else. I'd say Parrot was about perfect for combat text and wouldn't need any new features added to remain great.
Stop begging already. Like any other author of an addon that 2.4 broke, I'm sure ckknight is fully aware that many people used his addon and are eagerly awaiting 2.4 compatibility. Whining and complaining and bargaining ("I'll love you if you update it!" or "I'll give you a billion dollars if you update!") isn't helpful. Do you really think he's intentionally holding off on updating Parrot until he recieves enough professions of love or promises of money? Your post spam is useless and annoying, and nobody wants to read it. Parrot will be updated when time permits; keep in mind that it's a free addon that is developed in someone's spare time for a hobby game. Yes, Parrot is broken. Yes, it sucks if you used it. Now have some respect for its author and the time he's dedicated to the addon, and either do without a combat text addon, or use an alternative until he has time to update it.

However I find it strange that some things work in parrot still, for instance Enter/leave Combat.
Entering and leaving combat are detected by listening for events -- in this case, PLAYER_REGEN_DISABLED and PLAYER_REGEN_ENABLED; these events did not change in 2.4. Other things, like damage dealt and taken, are detected by watching combat log messages.
Before 2.4 these messages were strings like "Your Fireball hits Angry Murloc for 450 fire damage." that were preformatted sent from the server to your client, and addons like Parrot had to parse the strings to determine that the source was you, the target was Angry Murloc, the ability was Fireball, the spell school was fire, the hit type was a hit (as opposed to a crit or a resist), and the damage dealt was 450. Parrot used the library LibParser-4.0; other addons used other parsing libraries, or their own parsing code.
The 2.4 patch included a complete overhaul of the combat log system, and these preformatted strings are no longer sent; instead, the raw data (source, target, damage, school, etc.) is sent, and Blizzard's combat log code builds the strings you see in the combat log chat frame on the fly. All addons which read data from the combat log will no longer function until they're updated to handle that raw data; while it may be frustrating that an addon doesn't work in 2.4, you may find some consolation in the fact that when it does get updated, it'll be much more accurate since it won't have to make guesses about what's what.
I didn't get the whole feeling of begging and pleading for ck to put himself out to hurry up and fix it, mostly I felt that the thread was a bunch of people who are using alternatives but wanted ck to know that his addon was sorely missed and that they'll be going back as soon as he gets around to it.
And you're right about it being free, and the general mood of this thread has been one of appreciation more than hurry up.
And to ck, I think most of us here understand that a) you have to deal with RL first, and b) you have a WHOLE lot of addons that were all affected in some way by 2.4, and it will take a bit of time to fix them all, but know that there are many of us who greatly appreciate the time and effort you've given to enhancing our game time.

I must say I'm quite disheartened to read that Parrot won't be getting updated. I tried it for all of about 2 days after using SCT for years. I went back to SCT for a few weeks and have regretted it since. I went to reinstall Parrot today and well it wasn't working.

Who said it wasn't getting updated? From what I understand, ck basically said it will be updated at some point, when he has the time to do so.
First of all thank you for your awesome work, I've been using your addons and I'm quite happy with them. Time will show...
But there's sth I wanna ask to Phanx. If the library "LibParser-4.0" is updated according to new system(Don't know whose developing it), could it make Parrot work giving Ck more time if he wants to Develop Parrot 2.0 and make a solution workaround as users ?
Thank you for the deeper explanation of the combat log redesign ... it answered a few questions I had about some of the other alts I use as well. It also gives me some hope for what we will see coming up ... raw data may be harder to initially get addons aligned with but the accuracy will be fantastic ... I can imagine some of the things you can do with that data.

Just my 2 cents.

Anyway, take it easy.
