I trade a lot and get a lot of sales. I tend not to read each sale docket, I just shift-click (addon feature) on the mail to get the item or gold.
I noticed about 3-4 days back that you could shift click on an auction sold mail when it was within it's initial delay period of 60 minutes. My addon played the usual 'coins chinking' sound (like gold being deposited into my bags) and the mail disappeared. I therefore believed that I had received the gold earlier than the hour and that some sort of hot-fix had allowed you to pick up the auction proceeds earlier than before. Unfortunately I did not audit this belief as it was in the middle of several pages of sales, hence I had no chance to check totals I should have received against what I actually received.
At one point yesterday I logged back onto my character after a short period offline and found 3 sales mails from Auction House. 2 had been for sales over an hour ago (of about 21G each) and the third was for a stack of pots (for about 13G) which had sold within the last hour (and still had time remaining on the 'delay hour'). I shift clicked all 3 mails, all made the 'coin chink' sound, all disappeared from my mailbox. However my bank addon showed I had only received 42G, not the 55G I should have done.
A fourth item then sold, so I tested this error by shift clicking on this sales mail (again within the 60 minutes delay period) and again the coin chink happened, mail disappeared, but no gold received. I then realised that I had probably lost in excess of a thousand gold over the last few days due to this error. I had noticed a lower cashflow than I had expected in the last few days, but had not related it to me clicking on auction mails with 'time remaining' left!
Is this behaviour specific to Postal, or has somethign changed in Blizz's code that is triggering this potential error?
I have submitted a ticket and after the third ticket (previous 2 GM responses were useless) managed to speak to a GM who seemed to catch on to what it meant. It has now been escalated up to a special team to investigate. It will need them to audit my sales against gold in my bags for them to discover and confirm the error, so I do not expect this to happen quickly.
The GM told me that it was not possible for a mail to be deleted whilst it still had time remaining and still owed me gold. I demonstrated clearly that this is precisely what the this error appears to do - I'm still unsure if Postal or Blizz, but suspect the latter if Blizz's coding lets me delete an allegedly undeletable mail.
I await the GM's response with not inconsiderable financial interest and would welcome comment from anyone involved with the maintenance of the most excellent Postal addon.

If you had two payments of 21g in your inbox, and one "sale pending" message, then you should receive 42g exactly as you did. The 13g for the pending auction would not be mailed until that 1-hour period is up (hence the term "pending"). Shift-clicking the "sale pending" message you received a moment later should also have yielded no cash, since it was again just a pending message. The "coin chink" sound is irrelevant; it's just a UI effect.
I am the current maintainer of Postal, and I would like to inform you that you are quite mistaken about your lost gold. First, let me explain how the AH and mail system currently works.
When you sell an item on the Auction House, say it sold at 8.40pm, you immediately get a mail informing you that you have sold the item. This mail says "Auction Pending: xxxxxxx". This mail is simply there to inform you that although you have sold the item, you do not actually get the gold yet. The gold is mailed to you exactly 1 hour later, at 9.40pm, in a separate mail.
This "Auction Pending" mail has an expiry time of 60 minutes. This means that if you don't do anything to this mail, it will automatically self-delete at the end of 60 minutes, just like any other mail that expires (the default expiry for mail is generally 30 days). At the time the mail expires (at the end of 60 minutes) you will receive a new mail with the actual gold in it for the sale.
The behavior you have descibed is correct and intended. 2 of your items sold more than 1 hour ago and you have 21g + 21g = 42g in 2 mails. The 3rd item sold less than an hour ago, so you have a "auction pending" mail that tells you that you have 13g that is going to arrive soon within an hour. Deleting it or not deleting this mail is irrelevant. Hence collecting 42g is correct.
A fourth item then sold, so I tested this error by shift clicking on this sales mail (again within the 60 minutes delay period) and again the coin chink happened, mail disappeared, but no gold received. I had noticed a lower cashflow than I had expected in the last few days, but had not related it to me clicking on auction mails with 'time remaining' left!
This is again correct behavior. Shift-clicking on a auction pending mail deletes it, since it has no content, no gold. There are no sound effects when you do this, you are mistaken that there is a sound effect. The gold will come 1 hour later.
The GM told me that it was not possible for a mail to be deleted whilst it still had time remaining and still owed me gold.
This is correct. The fact is, the "Auction Pending" mails are purely informational (and quite annoying in fact), and doesn't contain any gold or items.

Xinhuan, thanks for the prompt response and explanation - you managed to do what no GM did which was actually answer the question and explain wy my worries were incorrect.
My concerns were that when I clicked the 'buyer found' mail that it then disappeared. Due to the volume of sales I get in my mailbox I was unable to tie it up to a then later and separate mail containing the gold. I wish the GM had explained this to me as you efficiently as you have!
Many thanks for the work you put into Postal - as I said in my original post it is a most excellent addon.

PS I have edited the thread title to remove any implication that it is Postal's error as it is nothing to do with Postal and everything to do with my lack of understanding!
I would really like to know your strategy cause I wasn't able to gain more than 300g per week. :(
When your founds rise, you can afford to throw more money in, and if you're doing it right, gain more money indeed ;)
But this is out of topic.
I happened to ask myself if Postal didn't swallow some of my mails after last patch, but never got really sure about this fact. Knowing that it's author is an active user comforts me (not always the case, trust me).
To be fair, I must put out there that grennon is Postal's original/main(?) author, but Xinhuan picked it up and updated it for 2.3 as grennon was busy with other projects. :)

Busy with a pregnant wife. I guess you could call that a project. I took a long break from wow when my raiding guild broke up also. Modding was about the last thing on my mind.
Quick question about Postal since you're around grennon:
Is the feature which auto-sends the mail on alt-click being removed now that you can put 12 items in a mail? Is this caused by AltClickToAdd or Postal?

Plus, putting more than one item in a single message vs sending individual items doesn't save you any cash so 1 item per message is still just as useful as it was before. It's easier to tell what is where if you send 1 item per message as the item is the subject. .
All items are listed in the tooltip when hovering over the icon for a mail with multiple attachments. (I think that's something xinhuan added to Postal - I forget)

No, it is not removed. Alt-clicking an item will send the item clicked on in the current mail immediately just as before. It is caused by Postal and not AltClickToAddItem. To be more specific though, AltClickToAddItem checks if Postal is loaded, if it is, it defers this behavior to Postal, otherwise it also implements the same behavior.
If you wish to send 10 items in a single mail, what you want to do is right-click the first 9 (default UI code moves them to the mail), and alt-click the 10th to auto-send it.

This is correct, I added that feature. However, only the first 10 items attached (out of the maximum of 12) will have an icon in the tooltip, because GameTooltip only supports 10 tooltip textures.
1. Is there ANY way to auto delete the mails about "item sold, gold lol you aint getting it yet" without running to the mailbox? Or would this be botting as per EULA?
2. Is there a max on mails per mailbox? Like if you have 500 mails in it, isn't it - well - full?

You get 50 at a time. I know some days it'll take me 15+ minutes for me to open all the mail, even using Postal. I don't know if there is an actual limit or not, but I know I've done at least 350 at one time.

1. Can't do it. You must be at a mailbox to interact with mail.
2. There is no known maximum to date. People have been known to been spammed 12,000 Blacksmith hammers and he simply can't open/delete/return all of them, even with the help of addons.
This incident occured on Dark Iron server, a player ninjaed epics from a raid instance and that guild got the entire server to spam his mailbox with junk like blacksmith hammers and mining picks. The purpose is to prevent him from transferring off the server with a name change since your mailbox must be empty for you to transfer off a character. The end result is that the guy petitioned to a GM and half the server got 3-day banned for spamming his mailbox. This occured over 1.5 years ago.

One word to that story LOL Doing that is worth the 3 day ban.
