When updating I've always done the "Install/Update with externals" . Is this the best way? I do NOT have libraries in my addons folder...all are inside the mod folders. Would it be better to d/l all the libraries I use? How do I know which ones to get? I have a fairly decent system w/ 2 gigs of ram and a 128 meg vid card..
With externals should cause the least problems.
Without externals might cause more problems sometimes but reduces your loading time depending on the number of mods using these libaries you got installed.
I've never had a single problem using standalone libraries, other than addon authors occasionally forgetting to add a library to the OptionalDeps field in the TOC, so I've never understood why people say "standalone libraries cause more problems." If anything I'd think there'd be fewer problems using standalones, as there aren't multiple copies and versions overwriting each other 100 times on load.
If you run more than a handful of Ace2-library-using addons, you'll have a dramatically shorter loading time if you run standalone libraries.
As far as knowing which libraries to get... you can either go through your addons, and make note of which libraries you're deleting out of the "Libs" folder, or you can just download ALL the libraries. They're all LoD, so it won't really make a difference if you end up with libraries none of your addons are using. Keep in mind though that not everything in the "Libs" folders has a standalone version -- for example, Grid uses a library called "UTF8" which has no standalone version, so you'll want to leave that in the "Libs" folder. Alternatively you can just delete all the embedded libraries, turn on standalone Ace2, load up your game, and write down all the "missing library" errors you get.
its easy to update now, just select ace2 and !!!standalone libs in your WAU as well as the rest of your addons and go file --> reinstall all addons and it will reinstlal all addons without externals and add most of the externals that you will need into your addon folder
I have a long load time anyways...kinda used to it. I was just wonderin if mods would be more up to date or run smoother with externals. But I run ALOT of mods..and to imagine going through all of them.....would take hours and hours.
1. Backup your AddOns directory.
2. Run WowAceUpdater
3. Mark all installed AddOns
4. Use the updater's "Uninstall Marked AddOns" option under File
5. Mark the !!!StandAloneLibraries
6. Install all marked addons (your old ones are still marked) without externals.
Voila! I didn't find it saved me much loading time, so I went back to the embedded versions.
