I was just recently looking for a note-pad mod. I got Omnibus and loved it at first, but realized after logging out and back in that everytime I log on, I get several Omnibus errors and all my info disappears. After what I've seen, I'd like to just simply get rid of it.
Are there any Ace2, WoW-2.0 alternatives? All I want for now is a simple notepad. It doesn't have to have any features except simply recording notes, but some nice ones would be item links in notes and configurable font and font-size.
Ace2 is an addon framework.
Ace2 is not a process.
Ace2 is not a mindset.
Ace2 is a tool for nerdy programmers.
Ace2 has nothing to do with the end user, except for the fact that they see alot of addons with the same kind of front end.
Ace2 does not make addons faster, in fact i could do it faster in most cases without (depending on the size of the project, wich is the point of using Ace2 (AS A DEVELOPER NOT A USER)).
Ace2 is not about offering 'alternatives'. alternative is a bad word.
get it in your skull please. if you want better check out what the addon has to offer itself, not if it uses ace2
this is not april fools.
this is fucking hard and cold reality.
You shouldn't let it bother you so much Industrial.. not as if anyone is forcing you to make them. Ever thought that people like to have their mods all from one place for easy of updating and support? I for one hated the days of cocking around on 5 different sites for updates.

It makes Ace2 look bad because people think that it's something it's not. No one likes bad publicity.

What makes Ace2 look bad? I don't think I follow your point.
By the way, Industrial, the OP was looking for an alternative to my Omnibus, that also happens to be Ace2. My assumption is that they want an Ace2 editor so it meshes nicely with FuBar and/or other addons they're already using. What is so horrible about that?
By the way, I have a new version of Omnibus that, I believe, fixes the bugs reported by the OP. So maybe now there won't be a need for an alternative.

After doing several tests using popular non-Ace2 addons against similar Ace2 addons, I've seen that Ace2 addons generally use FAR less memory and are generally far more efficient overall than non-Ace2. What Ace2 does is take functions that would normally be repeated over and over and simplify it to have a single library handle these, thus making the general process faster and cleaner. Ace2 DOES do a better, cleaner, faster and more efficient job than non-Ace2 alternatives. If you refuse to believe this, then get the fuck off these forums.
Edit: Aside from the efficiency benefits of Ace2, it is extremely easy to have all your addons gathered together on this single forum and have a tool to EASILY update all your addons.
If you truly believe there's no benefit to Ace2, you are an idiot, plain and simple, and you should probably get the fuck out of here and stop trolling and attempting to turn people away from something that's good.

actually, Industrial is one of the Ace2 developers afaik (or at least contributed A LOT to this community). So telling him what Ace2 is is just a waste of your breath. And I don't think you get the point of his post... In short, you can write very efficient addons without touching Ace2 at all. Or you could use the framework and write some piece of shit that will give you hell of a time with your game. And it's not really about how much memory an addon uses.
While Industrial's post might be over the top for some people, I sure can see where his anger comes from...

Yes, but while writing to the same standards, Ace2 is generally more efficient. Yes, it's possible to find shitty Ace2 mods and amazing non-Ace mods, but that's not the point of MY post. There's just as good a chance of finding something that's written to a medium-high standard that's also Ace2 as finding something that's written to a medium-high standard that's not Aced. I wasn't looking for specifically a well-written addon, but instead an addon that was Aced, in hopes of getting a well-written addon.
Edit: Forget it all. Close the thread. I've went to Omnibus, and I'm waiting for the error fix (which, BTW, wasn't fixed in the latest rev).
TinyPad is the only mod I know of that might have the functionality you're looking for.

If that were the case, then I'd probably have ace'd my addons by now. Please, do not make generalizations.

To his credit Tuller, he did say in general. Not all authors have the efficiency you, Gello, and others have. BTW I just saw your SellFish addon on WoWI like 5 minutes ago, and it got me very excited. Thank you.

Heck, just seeing the Bert and Ernie pick got me excited. ;)
