Saw RangeCheck was back up last night and was going to download it today, but then I notice there's another one called BarFader... the small descriptions sounds like they do the same thing? Is there any difference between these at all?
I was actually lookin for exactly such an addon. Installed both, tested seperately. I expected them to give an oor message or color the frames, but nothing either happens. Did I misunderstand the purpose of those addons, or installed / set them up incorrectly ?
Yeah I checked last night and it didn't really do anything. Although now that I checked my addons, I also have auf_banzai also installed. Does this somehow conflict with rangecheck?
Also looking at the wowace.com/files listing now, there seems to be three choices:
aUF_BarFader r20407 2006-12-13 19:33:29 -0500 Range Check for ag_UnitFrames (Miles)
aUF_RangeCheck r20389 2006-12-13 14:15:07 -0500 Unit range detection for agUF. (Sairén)
aUF_RangeCheck_M r20789 2006-12-15 18:25:27 -0500 Range Check for ag_UnitFrames (Miles)
I was looking at the code, and it is a really bad addon for determining if anyone is within heal range. The best use I could think of is to determine if it is within decurse range. I found myself wondering if there isn't a better solution, and this is what I came up with. The "IsSpellInRange" uses Rejuvenation, feel free to change to whatever range you want to have.
if CheckInteractDistance(unit, 4) then
elseif (IsSpellInRange("Rejuvenation", unit) == 1) then
Essentially, everyone within 40 yards are 100% visible, everyone who are loaded but beyond 40 yards are 60% visible, and everyone else 30%.
I tested this in AV with Terrain Distance and Environmental Detail set to max, and I could not notice any decrease in performance.
Really, any range checker needs to let you pick the range you want to check for. As a priest, there are scenarios where you want 30 yards over 40 yards and vice versa (for ae healing or curing as opposed to the usual patch healing).
sRaidframes has a really elegant approach that I'd love to see adopted for aguf somehow... you basically have a range slider and the mod parses the range of all the spells in your spellbook to determine which spell would be the best indicator to use and handles it all automagically.
