The biggest suggestion I would give is to implement an option to minimize Archy UI like pressing an icon to make it go away if not it will become the case of whats it been since its creation that Ive got this addon disabled since the ui is so large and it blocks quite a portion of the screen.
I am currently disabling this addon pending the rewrite, but I am happy to help with alpha testing any early partial versions to help you identify problems early on.
I just started following the project page (specifically file uploads) on WoW Ace, so I'll know if you are pushing something for people to toy around with.
chiming in about how fantastic this addon is! the slightly impatient side of me is curious if you have a goal in mind for release (well aware bfa isn't even for another month) - just super curious. I wouldn't even know how long this stuff takes to rewrite! (man I'd love to learn I don't even know where I'd start). ty again for remaking it
Hi how do I go about removing archy and allowing the game to handle dig sites again? Was wanting to do archaeology while waiting for pre-patch but dig sites do not show up due to archy turning them off when it isn't active and cannot activate it due to it not working with pre-patch.
You can either disable it from the AddOns screen, either via hitting Escape and selecting that menu or from the character selection screen, or deleting the folder from Interface/AddOns.
If tried all that, the issue I have is digsites don't show up on the map at all, tried quite a bit of stuff so far but nothing as got them back to work. I seem to remember a while back having to do some extra stuff when getting rid of archy to allow WoW to handle the UI for digsites and stuff on it's own but can't really find anything on it again.
I'm an idiot, been using archy for so long I didn't know about the second "Track Digsites" on the map.
There are two magnifying glass icons. One on the map itself, which causes digsites to show as a shovel icon when you look at maps of zones (I keep this one on even when I have Archy enabled, as I usually have the on screen windows closed even when I am using Archy and it is useful to know where a digsite is even when that option is disabled by having Archy off), the other on the mini-map up in the top right corner of your screen, which causes the digsites to show as a shaded area in your mini-map when you are in that specific location.
I figure this information is useful in case anyone else doesn't know, as it appears from your post that you figured it out.
If you have it enabled, there should be a minimap button that has various uses depending on what keyboard/mouse buttons you press... add-on on/off/locked, etc.
Torhal, this might be a hell of an ask, but since you have to rewrite Archy anyway, here's my two cents: incorporate the visual slices or wedges feature from Archaeology Helper, along with GatherMate2 pin support. The HUD is incredibly useful, and it doesn't look like Oscarub is returning to update the addon.
This would make Archy the ultimate Archaeology addon, with one-stop-shop features!
i tried to report a bug but the page is not found and im not sure if its archy or another addon causing it anyway here is the rror:

*So* happy to hear you're continuing Archy. It's the only addon that makes archaeology tolerable! Looking forward to having it back again :)

I am also ready to help test any pre-alpha versions you have.
I also have beta access, if you need any information from there.
Hi Torhal,
Another offer here to help with testing too, either on live or Beta.
So glad you are working on Archy. Been doing my archaeology manual now and I really miss all the simple but oh so useful functionality.
Hope you are making nice progress and can't wait to see the new and improved version :)
I'll throw my name into the ring to help out with testing of the new Archy.
Though, I only play on Live.

Sounds like Blizz really threw this add-on under a huge bus... best of luck ploughing through the rewrite.

Another user following along praying for an alpha or beta release soon. :)
Just wanted to add to this thread to say how much I've absolutely loved using Archy over the years and how glad I am that it will be coming back!
Happy to see that Archy will live on. I look forward to talk about the addon (again) on my podcast CtrlAltWoW as soon as the rework is done.

I love this addon! My life was ending until I heard that it was being rewritten for BFA. I will help test. TY so very much
