Targeting Macro is the one that will attempt to target all listed NPCs in the current zone. The Target Latest NPC binding is to target whichever was the latest to be detected.
I have updated my addon to the latest "NPCScan" and I could not configure anything through the addons settings menu... ALL tabs seems to be blank, new interface seems to be bugged... I had to reverse to "__NPCScan" again.... Any ideas? (I had manually deleted the "__NPCScan" forder before installing the new update... Am I supposed to leave that old folder in the addons folder as well?) (As always I have installed the normal version if that helps... I am not sure whats the difference with the "nolib" version and if I had to chose that version)
If you don't have _NPCScan, then I have no idea how you could possibly have the bottom targeting button (the one with the full-body model) - that's the only thing that provides that particular button. _NPCScan.Overlay just adds map overlays, and you can get rid of _NPCScan.Overlay.Broker because it isn't necessary since the former has a broker display built in.
The only way to detect pre-MoP rares is either via mouseover or nameplates. To use nameplates, you need to open the Game Menu (escape key), then turn on Interface->Names->Always Show Nameplates - this will show a nameplate for everything, unfortunately, but without this the only way to detect the old-world rares is either via mouseover or setting up the NPCScan Targeting Macro under Game Menu->Key Bindings and continuously spamming that while you move around.
Thanks for the info. Just to clarify, with the Always Show Nameplates on, do you still need to be quite close to them for it to detect them? As in for the nameplate to appear on the corner of your screen (even if you're not looking at them)? So if I was flying over them, I'd probably not detect them unless I'm quite close to the ground?
Correct. The long-range detection methods are mouseover, which is purely luck, and the Targeting Macro, which requires constant button presses. Though I've heard of people binding it to their mouse's scroll wheel...

weird - no idea what was going on then. I uminstalled all the NPCScan addon's through the curse client, then did a general search on my computer and deleted anything that had NPCScan as its name - reinstalled the 2 and presto, it's all working fine now!
I tried adding the the underbelly "rares" and I may have done it incorrectly because they're still not alerting for me. Then I tried to roll back to an older version. I merely deleted my NPCscan folder and installed the new.... older version, but it seems to do nothing for me. Do I need to delete something else? I want the Underbelly "rares" to continue to alert as they used to.
Go to NPCs -> Custom and then type in the NPC ID for the NPCs you want to be detected. You should be able to find the ID by going to WoWDB or WoWHead and searching by name.
I've been using NPCScan since the beginning of WoTLK. This addon was one of the first i ever used and has become one of my necessities for my games. I was just thinking about how I remembered seeing this monthly downloads at always 90,000. Congratulations. I'm glad you guys are getting some recognition for the work you all put in. Have a good day!
in the new legion version is there some way to move the new frame some how whenever a rare is found? on my wow it seems to pop up over the top of some stuff on my screen and i cant move it only make the thing disappear by right clicking it v.v
i finally got the point of playing my alt and i noticed that NPC scan wont alert for Rare NPC's on other characters because of the " Ignore Completed Achievement / Quest NPC " options are enabled , i use that option to not spam on my max levels when i happen to mouse over an " ex rare " :p ,
is there no way for the addon to keep ignoring already done NPC's (no longer silver dragon) ..... BUT still trigger for an actual "Rare" enemy when doing them on lower alts when Questing ? , that would certainly be a good implementation :) ,
and on a side note , can't i make you reconsider about having the Targeting Frame put a Raid icon on the target when you press it like the old one ? , i really miss that feature ... :p
Good day!

Please install BugSack, then delete _NPCScan and install NPCScan, then try again. BugSack will tell you if there are any Lua errors.
Unless you have a compelling reason for installing -nolib, get the normal version.
Hi, I am hoping you can help me. I keep getting 2 targeting buttons (see picture below) is there a way to get rid of the old one?
I have installed with curse client: NPCScan, _NPCScan.Overlay & _NPCScan.Overlay.Broker
Love the addon, was fantastic help for Tannan ach's!
Keep NPCScan, but delete _NPCScan - the button at the bottom of the screen is from the latter (which is the old version).
Sorry to be a pain, should I delete:
_NPCScan.Overlay
or
_NPCScan.Overlay.Broker
or both? I don't have just _NPCScan (I triple checked after reading through the thread)
thanks

Thank you. I appreciate the assistance and my problem is now solved.

Go into NPCScan's options, click the Targeting tab. You'll be able to move it from there by clicking the "Show Anchor" button.
