I have to admit. I upgraded to FuBar3 yesterday, and quickly went back to 2.0 because of Rock. The minimap icon did not really bug me, although ugly. What bugged me is that it is not anywhere near as user friendly as the old drop down menu was. I always liked to be able to quickly change which plugins were shown via 1-2 clicks. Where-as now with Rock, its like 5-20 clicks, and even then, I'm not sure it worked. Not to mention, when I open Rock, my entire screen is filled up. Thats not necessary imo. But this is just me. I would really like an option to not use rock.
the window is resizeable. as for the option to not use rock.. well reverting back to 2.0 version would be it.

i actualy found it rather intuitive and nice the way the new system works. tho i dissagree with the naming method he chose. Rock Config... i thought the whole idea was to hide the framework so that the end user dosn't know it's there, eh well.
Well that's interesting. People took a fanboi liking to Ace for stupid reasons and now they hate Rock for similar stupid reasons.
I can tell you don't know what Rock is. All you know of it is that it's not placed a button on your screen that may look ugly. Not the best thing for addons to go around doing but the core Rock library isn't a bad library for it.
Anything you know or feel about Rock, forget it and drop it. Unless you plan to develop addons on a framework you don't need to know it even exists. Just concern yourselves with the state of the addons themselves. The button is planned to be removed soon so all the ugliness you've seen will go away.
But it does affect the mods themselves. For everyone that uses Fubar, it pretty much changes their entire ui.
And what is the purpose of rock anyway, to phase out niagara/waterfall?
If it is, i find it odd that you would go through so much for something that clearly worked.
But rock has potential, but i would say that you need to invest alot of time on making it more usefriendly (bigger buttons, better tooltip, better explanations of the individual settings) So if you wish to put time and effort into that you got my vote, but as it is. the old waterfall/niagara and fubar 2.0 are the better ones no matter (and i quote from this forum) how "cluncky" it is
To Hide the Rock MiniMap button, which bothers so many (I swear I will ask a sticky for that soon :P)
Open Rock by click on the minimap icon, in the MAIN rock screen, you will see a checkbox to enable the minimap icon, uncheck it. Boom - Icon gone.
About the level of obtrusiveness of the Rock config screen :
It now auto-alpha's to 25% when your cursor leaves the config. I am sure others will dislike it, but it's an elegant fix.
About Rock's "not so nice" interface:
It is still pretty much the same as the dewdrop menu, but now not in dewdrop anymore, more like Waterfall was/is. Just give it a fair chance, I was miffled too at first, but honestly - a few days into it, it's quite intuitive. Yet there is room for improvement, to suggest those I will quote Seerah.
Rock is a Core Framework that Fubar, Pit Bull, Cow Tip and Cartographer are not built upon, similar to how they where built on Ace2
What framework it is built upon is of little importance as long as it doesnt change 2 important things: 1 the usability and 2 the performance, well the latter would have to result in a better performance in that case. But the usability still isn't good though but the performance i have heard is better.
I would very much prefer it if the old right-click menus for configuring addons could be added to Rock and then leave the choice to users which route to use much as the Ace/Ace2 system had menus by default and then you could use DeuceCommander or Waterfall as per your preference.
The Rock config window is ugly (trivial but sets a poor impression) although functional but it makes the config process slower. For an example, if you started with an empty FuBar panel and wanted to select 10 new plugins to display on it, via the old Ace2 drop-down menu, you'd simply open the menu and then "tick-click" the ten plugins you wanted to be displayed.
Now, we have the Rock window, you locate the panel drop-down for selecting a plugin but now each time I select a plugin, the drop-down closes meaning it needs to be reopened and (assuming not all options fit in the space of the drop-down) re-scrolled to reach the same list point before continuing. Essentially, it's harder to use by a small but noticeable margin.
Brings up some very valid points there. A function that allows the users to select what setup mode is preferred perhaps. So that people that want to use rock, can use it and others can select to use the default one. However this might become a rather heavy memory user to make

I could do without patronizing - if that was your intent. I failed to mention as well that I no longer have options for FuBar. Any time I rt click on the bar...Rock opens instead of the Fu options...ENTIRELY too large for the screen, I might add. I'd be happy with a simple answer to the original question I asked.
Ok.
Rock is ckknight's new baby. It's a way of having all the settings for addons that are ACE addons in one place. It's all centralised in a moveable window that fades when not in focus. Personally I love because I don't think you need to close the rock window to make changes committ to it. You open it , fiddle around with it then go.
Did you prefer the old nested menus thing ? Cause I find that hard to use. Also and another thing it's now a required library for all future updates of ckknight's stuff (which includes Fubar). So if you don't like it *tough* ck ain't going to go back to the old way. If you want to use the most updated stuff you have to use Rock for configuration from now on ;(
Also another note : has anyone seen my rock icon ? I seem to of lost it *blush*
Rock is ck knight's new way of doing the settings for all his addons. I doubt the he will want to go back to the old way
In addition, the "old" fubar was Ace based, the new Fubar (3.0) is now ROck based, therefore the old way of doing things, changing settings, etc would require porting DewDrop over to Rock, since Fubar is now based on Rock, which is quite different from Ace (not saying better or worse to avoid flaming).

Please do not confuse people with misinformation. Rock is an addon framework. RockConfig is a way to configure Rock addons. It also now has support for Ace2 (which is not "ACE") addons.
Just wait until you have a chance seeing that ugly new configuration window. Pretty sure you want to get rid of Rock with (at least) light speed. :)
He uses it since the first day ckknight committed Rock.
And if you want the old dewdrop menus back... write a LibRockDewDrop library for the Rock framework; or use the old ace2-based version of FuBar/CowTip/Parrot/PitBull/Cartographer. (I think you didn't like Niagara too.)

The Rock's Screen is incomprehensible and absolutly not user-friendly !
hehe.. prolly because he doesn't want to port dewdrop over ...
Also, posting complaints, requests, and bugs here will do no good. You need to use Jira.
Went up Sunday night. It's now Thursday morning. So... 3.5 days about.
that's what I keep saying, but no one listens to me... ;)

^ no it is not a direct quote, I am too lazy to do that :P
All the way i like rock, i like the way i can manage ace mods that i ever had to set with an opiton graphic menu.

(i now use /rock to bring it up)
nice upgrade for Fubar,
personnaly i prefer to use the old Fubar way.
i suggest introducing a button (enable/disable) rock if possible.
thank you
Sorry you can't

Actually, if I am not mistaken, Seerah uses RockConfig (correct me if I am wrong, Seerah.)
He uses it since the first day ckknight committed Rock.
