Of course. I knew there was going to be an excuse.
That's fine. Then at least rename it to take out the word Ace. Call it PeanutButter for all I care. But please don't intentionally make an Ace branded FuBar. If your intention is purely to preserve FuBar2 then handle your business that way instead. Please.
The mod called Fubar is working fine. Wich framework it uses shouldn't be a concern of the users and it also shouldn't be a concern of other developers.
Creating FubarAce and CartoAce is childish and insulting in my opinion. The ones that created it are undermining all that a 'developer community' should be.
I was a little surprised to hear about FuBarAce and CartoAce on the svn... There had already been links to download the old versions scattered throughout the forums. However, there have been some updates to them, and in order to have those updates available to all that wished to continue using the old versions, it was forked on the svn.
But I agree with the branding argument. For the past, what?... 2-3 months we've been trying to educate users that a well-written mod is a well-written mod whether it uses Ace2, Dongle, Jack, Bubblegum, *whatever* framework. And that the Ace2 tag should be removed from the TOC's name entry, so that it doesn't show up that way on the addon selection screen. For the past... however long, we've been trying to get rid of this Ace2 elitist stereotype that some users have put on this community. For the past 1-2 years, authors have been discouraged at putting the word Ace into the names of their addons, even to the point of making them rename their folders on the svn.
I have nothing against those that wish to stick with Cartographer-1.0 and FuBar-2.0 since they are stable. I was one of the people offering up download links for the old versions. ck himself tagged them as Cartographer 1.0 and FuBar 2.0. The folders were renamed to be added to the trunk, they should have been renamed correctly.
It's not too late. Only a handful of users know that they exist anyway.
I'd like to point out, that CKK doesn't want to consider a 'developer community'. He's clearly stated time and again, that his addons are written by him, for himself. Rock was developed for him to build his addons on. He also has said that he won't be writing any agnostic libs because it doesn't affect his addons or framework if he makes them framework specific so therefore he won't expend the energy to make them agnostic.
And that's his prerogative. I may not agree with his philosophy, but, as someone better has said before, I heartily defend his right to do so.
Playing down this issue as "anything" is a bit absurd. It's a legit concern that has been argued by many many authors in this community for a long time. Why is this so hard to handle all of a sudden?
Nice insult. No, I am very busy however I care so I express my concern. If you were not around back in the days when everyone wanted to make their AceFisher, AceBar, AceUnitFrames, AceInspector, etc. then you have no idea what I am talking about. But those who have been around know. And how ironic it will be for the administrators who fought hard for people to stop using the word Ace in their addon folders to turn a blind eye now.
It's not always about branding. I prefer the older version of FuBar because of the configuration, plain and simple. I was pleased to have that option again. However, I don't care one way or the other which Cartographer version I'm using, since I seldom change anything. As long as it works, I'm happy.
For the whole time of Ace being a name, I have to say, -you- appear the most adamant and firey about this naming issue. Yes, we have suggested we don't use Ace in names, mostly from Tem, who did not like that scheme... but we have never belittled, claimed foul or been quite as ... flat out sarcastically insulting as you.
Please don't. I honestly don't see the name changing, I don't see it "harming" the Ace community.
So please step down off your soapbox. It's not that huge an issue. An issue you seemed to have redirected to blow out of proportion. Yes, there was a reason for the rename, yes there was a reason for the fork (which was your original complaint, -nothing- to do with the name itself).

I don't remember stating that. My addons are written by me, but it's for everyone else to use. Rock was made not just for my use, but for the use of other authors as well, otherwise, why would I have bothered to document it?
Overall, I disagree with the FuBarAce project (and other forked projects of mine) and find it largely hypocritical since I've been promised a utopia where people didn't care about what framework an addon uses, but it seems as though the very people who wanted that go against the thought for their own political gain.
Actually, ckknight did tag the last Ace-based FuBar as 2.0 before putting the Rock version in trunk. http://fish.wowace.com/browse/WowAce/tags/FuBar/2.0
No. We wanted the previous version available via WAU.

WAU users will rejoice.

Must have alot of time on their hands or something...
Just plain no.

So, how about FuBar-2.1 and FuBar-3.0? The only other logical thing I can think of is FuBar-2.0-Mikma or something like that.
