NeoTron, I find ButtonBin extremely nice addon that not only looks great but solves the need to manually arange the brokers, just perfect. I have some issues with it however - I simply can't get some brokers to show, for example StatBlock_FPS, StatBlock_Latency, StatBlock_XP, Broker_SysMon. In general I can't get any info about the XP/fps/latency. The brokers show on the perferences of ButtonBin and I can enable/disable then but nothing changes. I have 7 more broker things that are working perfectly :( What I'm doing wrong?
i just tried this for the first time and had the same problem. uncheck "hide buttons without icons" and they should show up.
so i'm using the now instead of SBC cause i wanted a little more control over the display (wanted more of a fubar type display). only two things i would like to see
-displaying of addons that don't have icons in a different manner. currently, such addons look a little weird when placed on a bar. maybe give such addons some kind of a default icon would work well? or change their justification?
-do you have any plans to let the user put a bin inside of another bin? would be nice to put a button bin inside of a fubar like bar.
other than, i love it :D easy to setup and i really like the way it looks.
Ah yes, I do by default hide things without icons. This might be a bad default now when I actually show labels too.
- Default icon / standin icon, I could do that. could also a per-addon icon once I get to that level of configuration
- I didn't have any plans to put a bar inside a bar but you can just put it there manually. I have a main bin which I put a left and center bin inside the graphics of. It looks like a "fubar" with a left, center and right aligned icons.
I'll give a few example use cases:
- I have a few small status addons that show memory use, latency etc. I want those without icons (but only those).
- Sometimes I want an addon to be shown only as an icon or with the "brief text" on the same bin as an addon with more than just an icon.
It's simply a matter of choice. Per-block config should be optional with reasonbly low overhead.
It has per-bin config, and AFAIK ButtonBin is mainly aimed at "minimal" cases.
Means if you got more than 5 "types" of bins, you're probably looking for Fortress or SBC or so, not ButtonBin.
To that end, I think it's handy if the display addons are fully functionally different from each other. Sure customizability is important, but if that reasonably low overhead is overhead which someone doesn't need since they can just go to a different Broker-display, then why feature-flood the smaller display for it?
Oh, and a bug-report:
Something is odd with tekability, it displays fine in other displays but doesn't show up at all in ButtonBin. As soon as I found some cause or steps to reproduce I'll post details.
I have to enable "show addons without icon" because some of them don't have an icon. However, I never want to see both. I love ButtonBin's minimalistic approach but perhaps there is a way to improve without addon-specific settings.
One "middle of the road" approach to addon specific settings would be a toggle "Show Label if no Icon". I'm not sure what the most clear (and consise) way would be to truly cover this. Simply adding this would allow the user to only see either label or icon, but it doesn't allow the opposite... only show labels (doubt there are any addons with icon but without label, but I guess that could be a consideration).
While it isn't perfect, perhaps something like:
[ ] Show addons without icons
[ ] Show icons instead of labels
[ ] Show labels instead of icons
If you only select the first you'll see BOTH Icons and Labels. Obviously you'd want radio buttons for the 2nd and 3rd option so that you don't select both, but I'm not sure that is doable.
I was actually thinking about how there was a complete lack of ability to disable icons, period. I have a bar to the right side where the "solution" would be to have all displayed without icons and went to look to see if I had that option which of course I didn't. I'll add some more per-bin icon options.
There's a typo in the orientation options of the individual bins. I think the checkbox currently stating "Icons on the left" should actually state "Icons on the right".
The tooltips from ButtonBin don't seem to like TipTac very much, I'm getting an annoying flicker of the tooltips when hovering over the button bin icons, not sure why.
Hi.
Got a small problem with ButtonBin, i can't move one plugin to Bin#1 to an other.
I couldn't find an option in "/buttonbin config" to assign plugin to a specific Bin (just enable or disable it) so I had to move it with my mouse.
But the plugins disapears when i release the mouse button
When i open ButtonBin.lua, i got "["bin"] = 2," for every plugin I moved but they definitely don't show.
Bin#1 and Bin#2 are configured the same.
Any idea to solve my problem  SOrry for my poor english :p
Is it possible for ButtonBin to create secure action buttons instead of regular buttons for blocks ? In the current state, a secure plugin is limited by the display.
Along with it, attaching a reference of the created button to the data object would be great, so we can setup the secure button actions before entering combat.

If you make the buttons moveable (one of the two "lock" options in the BB config) you can then simply drag the buttons to the bin of your choice. If they don't move (i.e. they jump back to their original position when you release), just try again. Drag it onto the BB icon and release.

Secure buttons? Hasn't crossed my mind. What kind of addon do you have that would need this? Seems somewhat backwards to how LDB displayers work but if you got a real example...

I think an LDB displayer could be more than just a "display". With secure buttons you widen the field of addon possibilities. Casting spells, targeting, using items (on other items), executing macros, setting maintanks, changing other control attributes, cycling multiple actions, using 2 actions in one click with the PreClick and PostClick wrappers, lists of dynamic size... all out AND in combat.
For concrete exemples, I have an alpha plugin (actually only working with SBC through dirty tricks) that allow to apply stones/oils/poisons on main hand and off hand depending of the block (the secure menu is shared between these two secure buttons that use SecureHandlerEnterLeaveTemplate to display the stone/oil/poison selection menu and serve as anchors to dynamically set the "item-slot" attributes of the consumable buttons in the menu, and of course a SecureActionButtonTemplate to refresh the previous applied buff on click, show a config menu on right-click and remove weapon buff on middle click.)
You can get it here: http://forums.wowace.com/showthread.php?t=13616.
I have another pre 3.0 project that requires a rewrite but would be able to do more than what it did. What it did was displaying a list of missing (or present, while holding a configurable keybind) buffs (food, flasks or elixirs, oils, class buffs including talented ones like demonic sacrifice or soul link) that could be clicked to recast. With a submenu in case there's, say, different buff possibilities for the same category (like hit food, AP food or stam food).
With LDB secure buttons I could make a block that shows the next missing buff, you could chain click to rebuff (or use keybinds to skip or apply); on enter, the clickable menu I was talking above would show, etc...
There's more than that to share and I know other devs that would like to benefit from all the features of secure stuff. But what is lacking is a "display" that holds the power to give life to these projects (and give the possibility to improve previous plugins :))
If you're interested, there's some spec to discuss :p

Also, there's at least 2 plugins I made that would benefit from an "in combat" use:
- Ara Broker Guild & Friends: http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info11205-Ara_Broker_Guild_Friends.html to whisp a guilmate in combat in just one quick click and other available actions.
- Ara Broker Tradeskills: screen sample here: http://perso.orange.fr/aranarth/wow/ara_broker_tradeskills_01.jpg and alpha download here: http://perso.orange.fr/aranarth/wow/addons/Ara_Tradeskills.zip. Having to wait the end of combat notification to use tradeskills or check other infos from the menu is annoying.
